MICHELIN TIRES Complaints

Tire size is 235/40 R20. Both front tires were extremely worn in an uneven way with 1 having metal showing. Discount Tire inspected the tires and stated that we were, "Lucky to be alive given how dangerous it is to drive on tires worn so badly with metal exposed." Discount Tire in Lafayette, IN inspected the tires. We ordered new tires that would take at least a day to be shipped. Wouldn't even let us leave their parking lot with the car in the condition it was in due to safety concerns. Luckily, we carry a spare, and were able to use that to get home. Michelin reviewed the warranty claim submitted by Discount Tire, and denied the claim due to improper servicing. No warning alerts. The main issue is that the vehicle was recently serviced by the Mercedes dealer in Lafayette, IN on 3-24-26. They collected the payment and handed my wife the key. They did not volunteer ANY issue of ANY kind. She questioned if they even checked the warning alert about the brakes. They stated that the brake pads were in the yellow, and needed to eventually be changed, but it could wait. Several days later, I was riding in the vehicle and noticed a loud road noise. Could not initially detect any damage to the outer/visible areas of the tires such as a nail. But the sound persisted. When we stopped again, I turned the steering wheel to expose the inner part of the tires. There was zero tread on the inside of the driver front tire with sharp metal exposes. Immediately took the car to Discount Tire. They confirmed it was an OBVIOUS alignment issue causing the uneven wear. Shocked Mercedes didn't fix the problem. Should have never given us the key back due to the high level of danger. Midas fixed the alignment $120. Both the dealer and MB USA hq were notified. Neither made any effort to make things right in over a month. Dealer clearly violated Indiana Code 9-19-18-3. The maker is not doing the proper quality control checks. Filing a small claims court case as well.

Purchased new all four tires (P 285 / 45 R 21 113V XL) in Dec, 2025 after confirming fits my vehicle. Warranty 60,000 miles. About 4 months later and about 1,800 miles of use, both rear tires have lost most of their tread and steel belts are showing per auto dealer. Front tires have also los quite a bit of tread. Vehicle had 4 wheel alignment before these tires were installed. Dealer & vehicle manufacturer representative confirmed no issue with vehicle. Also noted on 4/29/2026 that tire manufacturer web site states that these tires are no longer available for my vehicle. This is a significant safety hazard in its present state and worse yet subject to sudden tire failure.

Our first issue with the LT 265/70R17 was in 2020. We had a defective front driver ( tread came completely off the tire) of a Dodge Ram 2500. Replaced it and bought another new one, both new in front now @Sam’s Club. Drove to CA. On the way home, back left tire (drivers side) EXPLODED !! on hwy.10. Lost control of the truck and went off into the center divider, the truck rolled over and was completely destroyed. My wife had a concussion and had to have shoulder surgery due to the roll over. She almost lost her life and I got a hernia from impact. Our dog ( STD. Poodle)was catapulted from backseat about 20ft. Everyone lived. We did all the right things. Tires were inflated correctly, drove speed limit, temp. 75, 9:00am. No traffic. DPS deemed it NO FAULT because the tread that had come off the tire had 10/32nds and was fine. What went wrong????

Factory installed Michelin Primacy AS tires with acoustic foam lining. All 4 tires had acoustic foam coming loose and wadding up inside the tire, resulting in extreme vibrations (similar to a severely unbalanced tire) approaching and at highway speeds making vehicle difficult to control. Initially had the tires re-balanced in an attempt to fix before the problem was fully understood, but that solution did not last. Ultimately had the tires dismounted and foam pulled out, then rebalanced.

The contact owns a 2018 Ram 2500 equipped with Michelin Tires, Tire Line: LTX MS2, Tire Size: 245/75/R17, DOT Number: [XXX]. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the low-pressure tire warning light illuminated, indicating that the passenger’s side rear tire pressure was low. The contact pulled over and inflated the rear passenger’s side tire, but the warning light illuminated again days later. The vehicle was then taken for an oil change at dealer, and a slow leak was found on the side of the tire. The tire was not replaced by the dealer. The vehicle was taken to where the tires were purchased, and it was diagnosed that there was a slow leak through the sidewall of the passenger’s side rear tire, and the tire could not be repaired. The tire was replaced. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, and the contact was advised to return to the store for the tire to be evaluated. The failure mileage was approximately 57,414. size 21545ZR18 93Y. replaced these oem tires with these from costco on feb 27 2025. in dec 5 2025 the tire developed a large bubble. miles bought was 27790. current miles 31212. per tire center steal belting was broken no signs of road hazard or other damage. the belt broke and rubber was stressed with " maybe a 1000 miles regaining before catastrophic failure." wear instrument showed they were literally showing new tires. states they were the 3rd michellin tires with dude wall bubbling that week. states could have caused severe accident. no warnings damage leaks or idicators. all maintenance and pressure follwed per manufacturing specs. tires are a danger to drivers even low miles to failure to cause accident.

Michelin X Green Energy Saver A/S 225 / 50 R17 94V. Treadwear 480. Temperature A Traction B Max Load 670kg, 1477lbs DOT B3 0A 08EX 3221 All 4 tires, front driver, front passenger, rear passenger and rear driver show signs of failing or premature chunking of tread wear. The tires have 29,200 miles are driven on newer paved roads to work. The tires are filled with Nitrogen. The car is well maintained by local Honda Dealership. The tires were inspected at the local Honda dealership and the repair advisor, NOT THE REPAIR TECH said looks like normal wear a tear. Advisor falsely claimed high speed driving is the cause. This vehicle is driven 8 miles total per day to work speed limit MAX 50mph, contacted Michelin, not helpful to resolve issue. No Accident, all 4 tires show premature failure in tread wear.

The contact owns a 2023 Genesis GV70 equipped with Michelin Tires, Tire Line: Primacy Tour, Tire Size: 255/40/R21, DOT Number: (N/A). While driving approximately 70 MPH, the vehicle started violently swerving from right to left, nearly causing a crash into a concrete median. The driver was able to regain control of the vehicle and safely drove to the residence. A tow truck driver was called to the residence and discovered that the rear driver’s side tire had extensive tread separation. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer, who determined that the rear driver’s side strut, brake line, fuel filler neck, inner fender, parking brake wiring harness, and rear driver’s side brake line were damaged during the failure and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 11,900.

Sidewall randomly cracked while traveling late at night on sparsely populated interstate. No debris on road or potholes encountered to explain why this occurred.

A tire experienced a sudden bead-area blowout while the vehicle was traveling at freeway speed. There was no pothole, curb, debris, or roadway impact. The failure occurred approximately ten days after installation. Inspection shows failure at the tire bead adjacent to a wheel defect. The wheel was represented as new at installation but shows evidence of prior material removal and cosmetic reconditioning, including rounded aluminum exposure and surface striations inconsistent with fresh impact. The compromised wheel-tire interface caused sudden bead unseating and rapid air loss.
