TOYO TIRES Complaints

The contact owns a 2001 Ford F-250 equipped with Toyo tires, Tire Line: HT Open Country, Tire Size: LT265/75/R16, DOT Number: CXLTCAK4815. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle was shaking and felt like the front tires were bouncing. The contact veered to the side of the road, where he noticed that the tires were deformed. The contact continued to drive. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that the tread belt was separating. The front tires were replaced; however, the failure reoccurred with the rear tires. The vehicle was taken to an independent tire mechanic where the rear tires were replaced under an unknown recall. The contact stated that the failure reoccurred on the front tires. The dealer was notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but did not provide any assistance. The tires were not replaced. The tires were replacement equipment. The tire failure mileage was 30,000. The vehicle failure mileage was approximately 230,000.

Tire size 245/60R13 105N. Two weeks ago Tire Pressure Monitoring System light went on. Last week I brought it to Toyota dealer to have it patched. On 3/27/22, tire exploded. This tire is a safety hazard

P275-60-R20-114S Tire tread is separated on 2 tires. It is worse on one tire & was noticed when getting oil change as it is on inside of tire not visible.

I have 4 Toyo Open Range A31, P25 45 R16 Tires on my 2019 Toyota Tacoma. They were new tires on the 2019 Tacoma when I purchased it new from the Toyota Dealership in August 2019. 4 tires on the Tacoma and 1 Spare tire. I noticed over he life of these 4 Toyo tires they wore rapidly and chunked and lost chunks of rubber in the tread areas. I always rotated and balanced my Toyo tires as required. I had yearly front end alignments done . 2020 and 2021. I do an air check every 30 days. There are no mechanical problems with my 2019 Toyota Tacoma. When these Toyo Open Range A31 Tires were new they started out at 11/32 tread in August 2019. As previously noted all 4 tires wore rapidly and chunked, rubber loss in thread. By October 2021at 19,500 all 4 Tires were at 5/32 closer to 4/32 and had Chunking Rubber loss in threads on all 4 tires. These tires lasted 2 years and 19,500 miles and must now be replaced. Toyota does not warranty the Toyo Tires and told me to deal with Toyo Tires directly. Toyo Tire has been challenging to deal with and are only offering 25% off towards a purchase of 4 new Toyo Tires. This in Unacceptable. Its reasonable for a consumer to expect more than 19,500 miles or 2 years from tires. The Big Picture and Major Concern is Safetey !! These Toyo Open Range A31 Tires Wore Out and Chunked with Rubber Loss in Thread by the time they were 2 years old and by the time they reached 19,500 miles. For safety reason I must replace these tires. I respectfully request that NTSB investigate this serious safety matter.

P225/60R17 98T: Tires create vibrations in the steering column. One tire in particular creates severe vibrations that mechanic states could lead to problems with the steering components. Coordinated w/ Sandy Boulevard Line up shop and one tire could not be aligned due to defect. 2004 Sienna van (140,900 odometer miles) is equipped with Toyo Observe GSi-5 195/65R15 91T (separate 16" rims purchased from Les Schwab) and there is no vibration at all. Les Schwab last tried to "balance" the defective tire in 2019. I have about the 4rth appointment Aug 21 2021 @ 9AM. I will also take the 2004 Sienna van to Japanese Auto repair (web site and e-mail above). to look for any defects. I probably need to put the Winter Observe GSi-5 tires on the car for safety, but they wear out quickly on summer hot roads.

I was making a left turn into my subdivision after a full stop. My speed was no more than 5 MPH. The Toyota dealer informed me that the sidewall had blown and was not repairable. They had no definitive cause as to why the tire blew. The tire was retained by the dealer. The tire size is P 195/65R15 and is a Toyo NanoEnergy A41 Tire. It was original equipment on the Toyota Prius as built in Japan. I have found that the tire has no manufacturer's warranty. I just returned from a vacation three days ago driving from Hilton Head Island, SC. Had this happened on the interstate system, the results to me, my wife, or other drivers could have been very different. To the best of my knowledge, the tire has not been inspected by any party. I was not given any tire DOT information on the new tire.

National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act of 1966 (Safety Act), S571.120 Tire/Rim Selection, S5.1.2, requires the sum of the maximum load ratings of the tires fitted to the axle shall be not less than the gross axle weight rating (GAWR) of the axle system specified on the vehicle's certification label required by 49 CFR part 567. 567.77 requires any alterer of the vehicle to continue conformity with these requirements and assumes legal liability for certification under the Safety Act. The Siberian RV (see pic) is a customized off-road expedition vehicle manufactured by ProVan Industries, West Columbia South Carolina. They utilize a Ford F550 Super Duty 4x4 as the chassis and customize the RV to travel into off-grid extreme environments and road conditions. Provan alters the standard Ford F550 dual rear wheel to a single rear wheel The altered Certification Label affixed to the vehicle (see pic) establishes the rear axle GAWR at 14,706 pounds. The Tire/Wheel (Rim) assembly chosen by Provan as their alteration is listed as a TOYO M608Z 285/70R 19.5" on a Hutchinson Beadlock Wheel. ProVan neglected to list the capacity of this tire on the Certification Label, instead filling "X" in this spot (VIOLATION). TOYO Inflation Chart determines the MAX load capacity of this tire to be 6395# at 125 MAX Inflation (see chart). The Hutchinson Wheel has a stamped MAX inflation capacity of 120psi which lowers the load capacity of the tires to 6185# per tire. Either way the sum of the maximum capacity of the tires is either 12,790# or 12,270# safely. The tires are far short of the 14,706# required by the Safety Act. At 22,500 miles and roughly 50% tread wear the rear tire sidewalls developed a split in the bead seam near the rim (see pics). This unsafe tire condition was noticed and immediately pulled out of service. Toyo states this is an overload condition. ProVan refuses to take responsibility for their defective design in violation of the Safety Act. Please Help

ON MARCH 29TH AT 2:20 PM I HAD BOLTED ON AND TORQUED TO SPEC BRAND NEW TIRES AND WHEELS(WHICH I HAD BOUGHT FROM CUSTOM OFFSETS ONLINE AND WHERE SHIPPED TO ME BALANCED, MOUNTED AND READY TO GO) THEN AT AROUND 3:30PM THE INCIDENT OCCURRED. I WAS TRAVELING DOWN THE FREEWAY ABOUT 70 MILES AN HOUR IN THE FAR LEFT LANE AND IN ABOUT 2 MILES FROM GETTING ON THE FREEWAY I HEARD A LOUD BANG AND FELT THE FRONT LEFT SIDE OF THE TRUCK FALL ONTO THE RIM. AS SOON AS THE PRIOR EVENTS TOOK PLACE I SLOWLY STARTING TAPPING THE BREAKS TO WORK UP TO BREAKING FASTER AND HARDER TO SLOW DOWN BUT ON THE PARTICULAR PART OF THE HIGHWAY I WAS ON THE SHOULDER WAS LOSING MORE AND MORE AREA SO I EVENTUALLY ENDED UP HITTING THE K RAIL NOT INTENTIONALLY, COMING TO A STOP. PLEASE ALSO NOTE THAT I HAD NOT HIT NOR RUN ANYTHING OVER ON THIS CLEAN SMOOTH STRETCH OF HIGHWAY. AS DESCRIBED PRIOR I HAD STARTED TAPPING ON THE BREAKS SO I DIDN'T LOCK THEM UP THEN EVENTUALLY FULLY BREAKING AFTER TAPPING. FURTHER TO ADD 4 DAYS LATER ON APRIL 2 I WAS TAKING OFF THE WHEELS AND TIRES TO SEND THEM BACK TO THE COMPANY I PURCHASED THEM FROM (CUSTOM OFFSETS) I NOTICED THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE TIRE STARTED TO COME OFF THE BEAD AND CREATE A EGG ON THE SIDE WALL WHICH SHOWS THAT THERE ARE TWO AND JUST ONE DEFECTIVE TIRES SENT TO ME.THE TIRES WERE TOYO OPEN COUNTRY AT 3'S 315/75/16 AND THE WHEELS WERE AMERICAN RACING WHEELS 16X10'S SUPPLIED TO ME BY CUSTOM OFFSETS WEBSITE BALANCED AND MOUNTED.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2018 TOYOTA YARIS IA EQUIPPED WITH TOYO TIRES, TIRE LINE: PROXES A27, TIRE SIZE: P185/60R/16, DOT NUMBER: (NOT PROVIDED). THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS THE TIRES LOSS AIR WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT ADDED AIR TO TIRES. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED NOR REPAIRED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS LIKE NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 19T004000 (TIRES). THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 38,789. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2016 MAZDA CX5 GRAND TOURING. THE VEHICLE HAS TOYO A23 TIRE SIZE 225 55R 19. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE WASHING THE VEHICLE, SHE HAD NOTICED SEVERAL CRACKS IN THE THREAD ON THE SIDEWALL OF EACH TIRE. SHE ALSO STATED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS MORE SEVERE ON BOTH FRONT DRIVER AND REAR PASSENGER TIRES. SHE HAD INITIALLY TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO HERTRICH'S CAPITOL MAZDA(1127 S DUPONT HWY, DOVER, DE 19901) WHERE THEY REFERRED HER TO THE TOYA TIRE MANUFACTURER FOR ASSISTANCE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY INFORMED HER THAT THERE WERE NO RECALLS ON THE TIRES. THE CONTACT HAD YET TO EXPERIENCE A FAILURE WITH THE TIRES. THE TIRE FAILURE MILEAGE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 33,000.
