ALFA ROMEO Complaints

The car never showed signs of an issue, I got on the car with my two children, when I attempted to start the car. The engine started smoking and smelled like burned plastic. We got out of the car, the smoke went on for about 15-30 seconds. After that the car did not start. The engine's wiring was charred. I was informed by the dealer a ground strap failed. This ground strap is exposed to the elements at the bottom of the engine and it's prone to corrode, rendering it useless and causing the electrical wiring to overheat and potentially start a fire.

Similar to Investigation PE24000, my 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio fuel pump failed during low speed driving in a parking garage. The car was rendered inoperable and would not restart. The engine failed while driving and only due to my low speed and lack of traffic at that moment, I was able to maneuver the car safely to a stop. The dealership identified the issue as relating to the fuel pump, vey similar to the Low Pressure Fuel Pump Assembly Failure investigation PE24000 run by investigator Arnaldo Torres Diaz. Just wanted to provide the information to encourage Fiat Chrysler to expand this repair into a recall for Alfa Stelvio models that also share the Alfa Giulia 2.0 liter four cylinder engine.

While driving the car all of a sudden the sunroof completely exploded with no rocks hitting it or any other object. The explosion was so loud and unexpected that it caused me to swerve and nearly hit a car to my side and ahead of me. I attempted calling the closest dealership as well as premium care Alfa and they denied the warranty claim when the car was purchased brand new last year in 2024 and has under 15,000 miles. I believe this is a strong safety concern and at this point I would like to not even keep a car that could cause me to get into a fatal accident and while having no support whatsoever from the dealership or Alfa’s support.

My 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio was diagnosed by a certified Alfa Romeo dealer with a major engine defect involving coolant mixing with oil. The diagnosis revealed internal failure likely stemming from the oil cooler or head gasket, and the parts estimate alone was over $17,000 — not including labor. The dealer confirmed the issue but stated no recalls apply and denied warranty coverage. The car showed early signs like minor overheating and coolant loss, but no clear warning lamps or check engine lights until the issue escalated. This defect significantly increases the risk of engine failure, overheating, or loss of power while driving — posing a serious safety concern. I have since discovered multiple other owners reporting the exact same problem in Alfa Romeo forums and consumer complaint sites. The dealer has confirmed the issue but refused support. I believe this may reflect a broader design flaw affecting many vehicles and should be investigated for potential recall.

The intrusment cluster stopped working took it to the dealership they couldn't get it to work they contacted the manufacturer they stopped communicating. Dealership can't get the new updated software to download.

The contact owns a 2018 Alfa Romeo Stelvio. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power. The message "Electronic Acceleration Control Disabled" was displayed. The contact pulled over and waited a while before restarting the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was determined that the low-pressure fuel pump had failed. The contact was informed that the low-pressure fuel pump and module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired and remained with the dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 13,500.

The contact owns a 2017 Alfa Romeo Giulia. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH and depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle failed to respond as needed. The message “Service Electronic Throttle Control” was displayed. The contact stated that a dealer was contacted. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer nor an independent mechanic to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the VIN was not under recall. The failure mileage was 50,000.

This has been an issue slowly getting worse over the last few months and escalated this week. June 20th, 2025 my car has literary died over (4) times during traffic and I had to try and stay calm while using a code reader to clear the codes to get the engine to start. Very scary, I have a 2017 Giulia Ti that just hit 100k miles. Even took it to the dealership and they couldn't explain it. Parasitic draw on my battery and they gave it a pass :( Codes: P2510-ECM/PCM POWER RELAY SENSE CKT RANGE/PERFORMANCE P0103-VAF CIRCUIT HIGH INPUT P0100- VAF CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION P0451-EVAP SYSTEM PRESSURE SENSOR/SWITCH 'A' RANGE/PERFORMANCE P0106-MANIFOLD ABSOLUTE PRESSURE/BAROMETRIC PRESSURE SENSOR CIRCUIT

My internal front seat airbag went off while parked. No warning. Just went off while I was sitting. I have yet to take it to a dealer. This just occurred.

Let me start by stating that this incident is just one of many occurrences that has happened to me with this vehicle. I was driving down a straight highway that was pretty heavily congested with traffic of other vehicles, when all of a sudden I felt a loss of power with the vehicle and some error codes came up on the dashboard indicating the engine needed to be serviced, start & stop was unavailable, and to service electronic throttle control. I also noticed that the vehicle driving mode had switched by itself from Dynamic to Natural mode. After a few short seconds, I felt the RPMs drop completely to zero and I felt a loss of the power steering as well because the engine had shut down completely in the middle of highway traffic. As I was driving on the left lane of a two lane highway, I had to immediately pull over to the right side shoulder, nearly being hit by vehicles behind me as the Alfa Romeo Giulia stalled and immediately cut my speed. I was parked on the right shoulder of the highway with my hazard lights on and put the vehicle into Park. When I tried to restart the engine, it just cranked over for a long time before finally turning on. The same error codes popped up on the dashboard indicating the problem was still there. I tried to continue driving down the highway but the engine kept on shutting itself off and the issue persisted. Eventually I had to call a local friend who has a trailer to help me tow my vehicle back home. The vehicle, when scanned, released the code P008A which indicates a low pressure fuel system error. I have read that this issue is currently being investigated by the NHTSA and would like to clarify and state that this is indeed a very dangerous safety issue and it should be dealt with accordingly.
