The infotainment system occasionally shuts down while driving, resulting in a blank screen and a reboot of the MMI after a short period. This is particularly concerning when backing up the car, as the sensors and backup cameras also become inoperative. The Audi dealership in Seattle performed the annual scheduled service in May 2025 but did not investigate this problem.

I purchased a pre-owned Audi in August 2023 from a franchised dealer. I was explicitly told there were no open recalls or issues. In May 2024, the vehicle suffered a complete electrical failure during use—warning lights flashed, wipers activated on their own, the steering wheel moved without input, and the windows opened/closed erratically. It was inoperable and could not shift into neutral. A flatbed tow was required, and the vehicle had to be physically forced off the truck at home. The next morning, the authorized service center initially refused the tow but later accepted it after I explained the severity. A service advisor confirmed the failure was due to an active safety recall and that a replacement control module was unavailable. I was denied a loaner until I escalated the issue to a manager. For months, I received repeated notices that there were no updates or parts available. The loaner was significantly smaller and disrupted both personal and work transportation. On June 5, 2025, the dealer said the part would never arrive and advised me to request a buyback through Audi corporate. I did so. On June 10, the dealer claimed the buyback was approved and told me to return the loaner. When I asked for verification, they changed their story. I contacted Audi corporate and was told the buyback had been denied, confirming the dealer had misrepresented the situation. This experience reflects deceptive business practices, potential violations of recall disclosure laws, and failure to resolve a known safety defect. My safety—and that of my pregnant wife—was placed at risk due to the sale of a recalled vehicle. I urge NHTSA to investigate. Their actions show a disregard for safety, federal compliance, and consumer rights. Others may not be as lucky.

Radio keeps cutting off and on randomly, nothing it seeming to fix the problem and all 2020 a4 owners have been running into this. It is also messing with backup camera. This needs to get brought to attention and find a solution.

The Audi MMI (Multi Media Interface) system plays a crucial role in enhancing safety features by providing a user-friendly interface for managing various driver assistance systems and safety-related functions. These include features like emergency calls, roadside assistance, and the integration of driver assistance systems like adaptive cruise control and collision avoidance assist.

*The problem with the vehicle is within the Multi-Media Interface system. The MMI will randomly restart while driving, without warning. *This random and frequent reset has lead to issues with following maps (i.e. missing turns, lost in traffic/while on the road) and while backing up (i.e. system turns off while using backup camera and safety sensors to back up). *The issue was reproduced when I had a diagnostic screening completed on 6/9/25 by an Audi Dealership. Through the diagnostic screening, it was found to be a software issue that needed to be updated. This was not covered by any warranty or plan. *The vehicle was inspected by the Audi Dealership in Pittsburgh, PA in November of 2024 and the diagnostic screen was done on 6/9/25. *There were no warnings of issues within the car, the MMI just restarts, randomly with no specific time intervals but happens frequently enough that it has become a safety issue while driving. This issue started to happen in February/March of 2025.

The MMI component randomly stops working. Over the past four years of driving this Audi the MMI would suddenly reboot itself only once or twice a year. Now for the past three months it tries to reboot itself once or twice a day! It's quite startling for the music to go silent and the screen goes black, the first few times this happened I thought the engine died too (that's scary). It even happens when I'm backing out of my garage, luckily there is never anybody behind me but what if I'm in the mall parking lot. When the MMI reboots itself about half of the time it is similar to a conventional starting procedure, which isn't to bad but just annoying. Other times it wants you to log on as a "guest driver" or "registered driver hasn't been in the vehicle" or it even wants you to punch in a pin number on the key pad which I don't know. All this requires your concentration on the MMI and not on the road. I wish some one could inspect this and confirm my problems before I brought it to the dealer. If I brought my car to the dealer they would charge me for diagnostics and then say they "there is nothing wrong" or worse try to upsell me a whole new unit for mega dollars. I only drive about ten to fifteen miles a day so my time on the road is minimal but it only takes a moment of distraction to have an accident. While there haven't been any warning lamps or messages about the MMI problem there was another symptom to this problem. The control button on the center console and the thumb scroll wheel on the steering wheel had a very distinct delayed reaction. The volume would change 2-3 seconds after I used the knobs and even turn off 2-3 seconds after I hit the button on the console. I think this symptom started to occur before the MMI reboots. One more quirk, after the MMI reboots, the music from my USB drive will start to play not from when the MMI cut out but from when I started the car that morning. It starts to repeat the same songs. while driving. These reboots typically happen every 5–10 minutes and result in the temporary loss of safety-critical features like the backup camera, navigation system, and rear cross-traffic alert. The screen goes black, and the system restarts itself while the vehicle is in motion, which is both distracting and potentially dangerous. I brought the issue to my local Audi dealer, who attempted two separate software updates. Unfortunately, the problem continues. The service department reports no faults in the system diagnostics and has stated that they currently do not know how to fix the issue. This persistent malfunction affects key safety systems and creates significant concern when driving.

Water pump defect for the 3.0L ea839 turbo engine found across many Porsche and Audi models. Defect causes damage to vacuum lines, thermostat, and can eventually lead to engine failure if not resolved. No way of knowing this is happening until you start to lose coolant (which will throw an engine code), but by that point the damage is done. There was a recall for the previous generation vehicle water pumps.

The MMI system and all associated functions resets without warning mid drive. The Audi dealership has a bulletin that says a software update is the solution, but has made the problem worse - rather than intermittent resets (once every few days) the system now resets multiple times on short drives (5 times within 20 minutes). This turns off all navigation, radio, phone, CarPlay, Bluetooth, and camera functionality when it happens. Audi has said the only repair is to replace the entire computer module out of pocket - it is a known issue with this car.

2019 Audi Etron under recall for battery issue since 2023, to date there has been no remedy. This is a fire hazard and should be addressed. Audi says they will Notify when there’s a remedy.
