    While driving at multiple speeds a complete loss of power occurs from 15-30 seconds. Then will automatically re-engage at the speed when the power loss initiated. Bike does not code and does not have to be manually restarted. A huge safety issue when in traffic.

  • 2023 CAN-AM SPYDER F3
    - SHIPPENVILLE, PA

    On April 8, 2026, while riding on a busy 8 Lane (4 each direction) interstate during evening rush hour, I experienced immediate loss of propulsion when I attempted to engage the throttle. There was absolutely no power, just a grinding noise. I immediately put on my hazard lights and began working my way over toward the right berm. The exit was within a very short distance and I was able to exit the interstate and pulled in to the first road I could. I had to put my Can Am Spyder in neutral so my husband could push me off to the side of the road to safety. There were no warnings or symptoms prior to my immediate loss of propulsion. I was placed in harm's way because most drivers were traveling in excess of the speed limit of 70 mph. I was in fear for my life as there were truck tractors and other vehicles within feet of the rear of my Can Am Spyder as I made my way to safety. The loss of proplusion was caused by the output shaft stripping the front sprocket. The sprocket was physically inspected by a dealership and BRP as well and replaced with another sprocket. I previously had a 2018 Can Am Spyder F3 and the sprocket was replaced 4 times due to the same issue, however my sprockets were always replaced before an epic fail as happened in this case. There was a recall and final fix with a stronger sprocket by BRP. I do not want anyone else to experience this safety issue.

  • 2024 CAN-AM SPYDER RT

    About 1 time in 5, after getting ready to ride the entire display will freeze up 30-60 seconds after beginning the trip. Most often this occurs if CarPlay is also enabled. When this happens, all functionality on the dashboard display is frozen. No speedometer, tachometer, gear indicator, CarPlay freezes, etc. Only fix is to pull over, stop the bike and wait for it to power down - then restart and hope it works the next time. I have had instances where it has failed 3 times in a row before finally working. Once it works for over 2 minutes I have not had it freeze up. The other option is to keep riding with a frozen display for about 5 minutes, then it crashes and reboots and sometimes fixes itself mid-ride. This is annoying and dangerous to lose all vehicle information like this. Have checked for firmware updates OTA and it says I'm up to date. I am not the only one this happens to, the Can-Am forums have other users with the same problem.

  • 2022 CAN-AM RYKER

    The contact owns a 2022 CAN-AM Ryker. The contact stated that while riding the motorcycle at an undisclosed speed, the motorcycle stalled. The contact attempted to accelerate, but the motorcycle stalled again. The contact pulled over to the side of the road, and the motorcycle shut off unintendedly. The contact was able to restart the motorcycle, but the failure persisted. The motorcycle was ridden to the dealer where it as diagnosed and the failure was associated with NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V855000 (FUEL SYSTEM, GASOLINE); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 600.

  • 2024 CAN-AM SPYDER F3

    I cold started the motorcycle and while waiting for a security gate to open the engine suddenly quit. I hit the starter and it immediately restarted. Then after I pulled out into traffic the engine died again. Fortunately I was in the right hand lane and again hit the starter and the engine again immediately restarted. By this time I knew I had a serious problem. Trying to get to a traffic light to make a u-turn back to where I store the bike the engine suddenly, again without any warning, died a third time while traveling at around 35 mph in traffic. I was able to safely coast over to the curb and hit the starter button and the engine immediately restarted. I was able to get back to my storage unit without further incident. At no time did I perceive any warning lights or check engine light. Upon each restart the engine ran perfectly without any roughness or stumbling. Power output was normal. Obviously this situation could result in an accident causing serious injury or death to me and/or others. The dealer came out and trailered the bike back for inspection. All they did was let the engine idle for a few minutes to warm up the oil for a requested oil change and check the computer for faults. None were found. They claim to have called the manufacture for advice and were told that since they did not reproduce the issue and there were no computer faults that is all they could do. I have refused delivery of the bike until this issue has been fully and unequivocally resolved as driving a vehicle with a known safety issue and causing an accident could result in me being sued in addition to injury or death. I have called CAN AM corporate customer service this morning to advise them of the issue. They will look into this situation and get back to me. Meantime the bike is still at the dealer for inspection. The issue appeared Wednesday the 18th for the first time. I have not been on it since. No one else has looked at the bike at this time except the dealer.

  • 2017 CAN-AM SPYDER RT

    The contact owns a 2017 Can-Am Spyder RT. The contact stated that while driving with a passenger at highway speeds, the brake pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to stop as intended. The contact stated that the brake pedal was depressed to the floor. The contact was able to slow down and stop the vehicle. The contact stated that the failure had occurred while avoiding a nearby crash. The contact stated that the failure almost caused a deadly crash. The vehicle was driven to the residence. The dealer was made aware of the failure and agreed to have the vehicle towed to the dealer. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed with a failed control module. The contact was informed that the control module needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. In addition, the contact stated that the dealer had previously performed an unknown recall repair a month prior to the failure. The dealer where the vehicle was purchased was contacted, and the contact was informed that the braking system was serviced two months prior to the sale of the vehicle. The dealer contacted the manufacturer, and the manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The dealer was informed that the technical investigators confirmed that the failure was a known defect that occurred during manufacturing. The contact was informed that the repair was not covered under warranty. The failure mileage was approximately 16,531.

  • 2018 CAN-AM SPYDER F3

    BRP has a recall for the output shaft for the 2018 Can Am Spyder F3T. Just after receiving the recall letter the output shaft on my Spyder went out. My bike does have more than the 37,000 miles on it. This is a known defect with this Bike. It is not right that BRP knows this part is defective and has a milage limit on it. This bike is my daily driver for work. I have contacted BRP and have been told as my bike has more miles that i am just up a creek without a paddle as I still owe more than $11,000. on this bike. I have asked for a call back and have not received any. I think this is wrong of them to put a milage cap on this part as it is designed to last the bike its lifetime. I have even told them i would cover parts if they would cover labor on this. I just really need some help with this issue.   • 2017 CAN-AM SPYDER F3

    See attached document for complaint. I am writing to you about the attached letter from BRP (reference letter dated January 22, 2025 re: Engine Output Shaft Can Break- Potential Loss of Drive Power-NHTSA Campaign ID Number 24V728). My Can-Am Spyder is affected by this issue. As stated in the instructions in the letter, I contacted my local authorized BRP Can-Am dealer to have the repair completed. I provided my Can-Am Spyder RT to Coleman Powers ports in Falls Church, VA on March 26, 2025. The letter goes on to state that the repair takes approximately 8 hours. After discussion with Coleman Powers ports, they advised this is grossly incorrect, as the engine must be removed and the work scope is orders of magnitude greater than 8 hours. Bottom line: I am writing this letter on October 18, 2025, and I still do not have my Spyder back. I periodically call the shop, and they have been understanding of my frustration and seem to be doing their best, but I understand they have stopped taking in vehicles for this warranty repair due to the extensive work scope and hours required for each unit. I am not satisfied that BRP has done their best to remedy this situation. They should offer alternate repair options, assist the shop, or do whatever it takes it get my Spyder back to me (6+ months and counting is completely unreasonable for a repair that BRP says in the letter should take 8 hours). If there is anything you can do to push BRP to get involved, that would be appreciated. (Note: I've called them twice already, but no meaningful advice was provided other than for me to contact the shop).

  • 2018 CAN-AM SPYDER F3

    The affected part is the engine output shaft, which is part of the vehicle’s powertrain and propulsion system. BRP issued Recall 24V-728 for this defect, stating that the shaft can break and cause a sudden loss of propulsion, creating a safety hazard. I received the recall notice in April 2025 and have been unable to safely operate the vehicle since then. I contacted every authorized Can-Am dealer within 150 miles, but all confirmed they could not perform the recall repair because replacement parts were unavailable. The first available dealer, Team Mancuso Powersports Southwest, accepted the vehicle on September 23, 2025, and has now had it for over three weeks with no estimated repair date. Several dealers have indicated that this is a nationwide parts shortage, suggesting the manufacturer has not supplied recall parts to service centers. BRP Customer Relations confirmed that parts are back ordered with no ETA and cited border and customs delays as the reason. As a result, my vehicle has been inoperable for over five months, and the defect remains unresolved. The manufacturer has not provided a repair, replacement, or refund as required under federal recall law (49 U.S.C. §30120). This delay affects my safety and that of other riders since the recall defect directly impacts vehicle propulsion. I am requesting NHTSA to investigate BRP’s handling of Recall 24V-728 and ensure the manufacturer provides a timely, lawful remedy to affected owners.
