2016 CHEVROLET COLORADO Complaints

The contact owns a 2016 Chevrolet Colorado. The contact stated that while his wife was driving approximately 60 MPH, the steering wheel was difficult to turn. The power steering warning light was illuminated. The contact called the local dealer however, the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted but no further assistance was provided. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign number 21V213000 (Steering). The approximate failure mileage was 110,000.

Key gets locked in the ignition after you put it in park and try shut off the vehicle. Vehicle won’t turn off. It takes 10 to 20 minutes before it will release the key. I believe this is a safety issue and have seen a good amount of people online that have the same issue and the manufacture refusing to address or fix the problem.

While driving the DIC displays "service stabilitrak" and "power steering, drive with care" messages accompanied by a loss of power steering. This has happened anywhere between a standstill at a traffic light and highway speeds. This makes it incredibly difficult to steer at low speeds. Turning the vehicle off and on again usually resets the error but it does eventually return. The problem has not been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer yet.

My mother (65 year old) was driving her 2016 Chevy Colorado alone on the freeway at about 50 mph in traffic. Upon changing lanes her power steering went out and it was very difficult for her to steer the vehicle. She says a warning message came up about the power steering but she cleared it quick and doesn't remember exactly what it said. The Stabilitrak symbol was illuminated the entire time as well on her dash. She was only about 10 minutes from home and drove home that way, slowly in the slow lane and then on the streets, struggling with the steering the entire time. Unable to pull it in the driveway she left it parked on the street and came in and told me what happened. Upon restarting the car and test driving it there were no more warnings and the power steering was working as normal. We took it to the dealership to have it checked out as I was very concerned seeing the recall of 2015 Colorado's for power steering issues and numerous reports online about the 2016 having similar issues. The GM dealership ran their tests and performed a multipoint vehicle inspection but found nothing and were unable to reproduce the issue. My mother does not want to drive the vehicle on the freeway anymore after her experience and is aware to pull over safely on the street if it happens again and shutdown and restart the vehicle to reset the power steering. I am very concerned this issue will arise again seeing the reports online.

my truck has a issue when you are going down a hill it shifts into a lower gear. This is an automatic transmission. This can cause my truck to slide and spin in bad weather. I have seen people comment about this issue on some Colorado forums. It has done this many times and at times I have pulled over and placed it in park

Wire chaffing by the AC suction line and by the serpentine belt near fan clutch, almost got me killed. WE NEED A RECALL ON THIS ASAP, this is a common problem being overlooked by GM.

Sudden loss of power steering while driving. Difficult to control vehicle. Has happened about 10 times in the last two weeks. Also occurs during cold start, less frequent. Restarting returns to normal operation until it fails again. Dash message indicates stabilitrack and power steering disabled. Appears to be same problem as 2015 model recall

The Power Steering is going out while Driving has happen 4 times now in 4 Days..The truck has 90,000 miles....The Radio started acting up at 50,000 miles.. The Radio will start changing flashing lights changing Modes not safe while driving at night...

While driving vehicle the power steering unexpectedly goes out. A message appears in the dash that states "Service: Power steering drive with care" and "Service: Stabilitrak". After turning the vehicle off and on again, the power steering restores allowing for driving shortly before malfunctioning again. Took vehicle to dealership who was unable to replicate the problem and blamed a faulty battery which they replaced. After the dealership having the vehicle for over a week, the problem occurred again the day after picking up the truck. There is no warning before the power steering goes out and it can happen while driving the vehicle posing a major safety risk.

The contact pulled over and restarted the vehicle to correct the failure. The failure occurred intermittently on numerous occasions. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, but the dealer could not duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but informed the contact that the VIN was not included in a recall. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 21V213000 (Steering) however, the VIN was not included. The failure mileage was approximately 69,000.
