2016 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN Complaints

The transmission shifts really hard sometimes, after if feels like it's not shifting while driving. Sometimes it's difficult to get up to speed because it isn't shifting, then when it does shift my van takes off. It's available for inspection. I feel this is unsafe due to the vehicle not being able to get up to speed, because the transmission isn't shifting properly, inhibiting the ability to get up to speed in a timely manner. It's happened a few times over the past few months. It's happened at different speeds. 40-65mph. There haven't been any warnings prior to the incidents. No warning lights or anything on, on the dashboard.

Driver's side sliding door lock mechanism became suddenly inoperable, without warning, both electrically and manually. Even with manual operation of the door lock knob, the door cannot be unlocked. It is not possible to open the door using either the interior or exterior door latch handle, therefore eliminating this door as a means of exit for the rear passengers. The exact same problem occurred with the passenger side sliding door in December 2018. I personally performed the repair of that door. The problem was a failed door lock actuator. It had a faulty actuator gear. I believe this problem potentially puts the occupants of the vehicle at high risk by obstructing exiting of the vehicle in an emergency situation, especially in a situation where the opposite door was inoperable or obstructed during an accident.

The driver side sliding door makes a loud buzzing sound whenever the doors lock. I have read up on this and it is a faulty door lock actuator. This sound is sudden and loud and has on multiple times caused the driver to get startled. This sound happens when the van auto-locks at the door locks specific set speed.

Passenger sliding door lock and latch failed. The repair cost $1,206.47 at the dealer. The dealer will only guarantee the new lock for two years!

The transmission pump lost pressure which caused the vehicle to stop on the side of the road, and it created a hazardous circumstance for my daughter. We had to have the vehicle towed to our residence since the transmission was not working properly. We have not had it looked at by a dealer or certified mechanic since it requires towing to get it to the destination. No warning was given by any lights or indicators in the vehicle prior to the incident. The check engine light did come on after the vehicle had stopped on the side of the road. I plugged in my FIXD sensor, and it indicated the problem was with the transmission pump. A Safety Recall (S44) was issued for the 2015 - 2016 Grand Caravans, but for some reason a notice was not sent to the owner of this vehicle, even though the date of manufacture listed on the vehicle indicates it should have been included in the original safety recall notices.

The contact owns a 2016 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated while driving 40-45 MPH, the vehicle downshifted to 1st gear and began to stall. The check engine warning light illuminated. The contact was able to veer to the side of the road. The contact was able to restart the vehicle, but the vehicle would only remain running for a minute. The vehicle was towed to the residence. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer who diagnosed that transmission pump had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure recurred while driving. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that transmission pump had failed and needed to be replaced. The contact stated that the vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The dealer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact that she would be responsible for the cost of the repair as the vehicle was out of warranty. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and confirmed the dealer’s information. The vehicle was not repaired. The approximate failure mileage was 60,000.

Bought van and shortly after the right passenger sliding door starting making a loud buzz every time it was unlocked. Researched that it was the actuator, have not fixed yet. Now, In August 2021, the drivers passenger sliding door will not open. It just stopped one day. it won't open with the latch, inside or outside, with the key fob, or with the button inside on the door or on the visor. I'm afraid if I ever have a wreck, we could be trapped with doors that just don't open. I've reached out to a few dealerships, and it is a costly fix and can't seem to get much info or response back from them anyway.

2016 Dodge Grand Caravan. The passenger side sliding door makes a groaning or buzzing when unlocking. Cannot manually move passenger side lock switch mechanism either. Both sliding doors have become stuck in the closed position in the past several times over the past several years, making it hard to get people out of car. Seems like a safety type issue. The repair for this (approx $1000 per door) seems to be very expensive for something that should not fail. Problem of doors getting stuck in locked position at times has been intermittent meaning lock/ unlock may work again . Not sure if this is due to unhooking battery and resetting or just because car was turned off and on.

The locking mechanism on the passenger rear sliding door makes a loud buzzing noise when unlocking. It is so loud that it can be heard up to 15 feet from the vehicle. Sometimes it will either stay in the locked position or it will remain unlocked regardless of the buttons being pushed. In the event of an accident and the door is stuck in the locked position it will put my children in danger of not being able to get out of the vehicle through that door. I have not taken it to be inspected nor has the manufacturer inspected it. There were no warning lights or indicators prior to or after the problem started. It is available for inspection upon request.
