2014 DODGE GRAND CARAVAN Complaints

Driver's seat headrest suddenly deployed while driving. I contacted Dodge they haven't replied yet. From what I'm reading there are numerous vehicles with same issue. I was very startled, distracted from surprise and have a sore neck.

Symptoms and Unknown: There are numerous reports of the oil filter housing that is prone to cracking which causes the engines in 3.6 Pentastar V6 engines to leak oil. This engine issue affects the 2011 and newer Grand Caravans with the said engine. My sister has had to replace this part twice now (Every other year - She replaced the last one two years ago) in her Grand Caravan SE. The symptoms which leads us to know that this is the problem is the vehicle develops a really bad oil leak and the oil level ends up being a quart low. The same symptoms happened when the first part was replaced prior to the part that needs to be replaced now. My sister was informed that the part she put in last time is not a definite fix as the said part could malfunction and crack again. This is a defect of the design of this engine that needs to be recalled and replaced with the new part free of charge that is also an updated part that is different than older parts that will not break. This is a SAFETY HAZARD as my sister has two small children and they could wind up on the road or interstate broken down. RECALL or TSB (TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN) is needed from Chrysler.

While driving with my three daughters in the car, the driver side headrest activated and hit me in the back of the head. This was random and no warning was given. As a result the headrest deployed and it cannot be fixed/put back. I currently have a strong headache and am still feeling a little dizzy after the incident.

Like the other hundreds of thousands 3.6 Litre V6 engines with the notorious oil filter housing/oil cooler oil leak, mine just started at 120,000 miles. I'm the only person to ever change the engine oil and oil filter in this vehicle. I have always torqued the oil filter to spec (18 ft. lbs). There should be a recall on this faulty part.

My family and I were on a hike in the mountains, and when we got back to our car, the drivers headrest had popped out of itself. We tried to see if we could fix it, but it busted out with such force that it broke parts. When I looked this up, it appears that this is a pretty common occurrence with our make and model, and others have actually had it happen when they are in the seat and been injured! Thank God we weren’t driving through the mountains when it happened! This is a serious issue and I couldn’t believe that nothing had been done to create a recall, especially after finding a report about the same issue with the same vehicle online from October 2019 (almost FOUR years ago) by [XXX] , stating that the government was researching this issue after several people were injured. Apparently this is a safety feature that is built to prevent whiplash in an accident, but is activating without provocation in many vehicles, if it’s not offsetting whiplash, could this not CAUSE whiplash?! This needs to be addressed as a recall and fixed for others before it causes a serious car accident (if it hasn’t already) or kills someone. This is completely unacceptable. Ignition module failed, causing van to stall while driving. The stall forced the vehicle to lose power steering and it had to coast over to the shoulder to get out of traffic, this could’ve resulted in a crash or blocking traffic. This happened twice, once during a very hot day. The van was able to restart after about 30 minutes and finished the short distance to the destination. The second time was at night when temps had cooled 20 degrees and it stalled at approximately the same distance it had traveled the first time. That time it was not able to be restarted and had to be towed to a repair shop, where they tested and replaced the ignition module. No warning lights or indicators went off either time prior to the engine stall. The check engine light did not come on until the second time when it would not start again.

Airbag light came on passenger side on door trying to see if it was recalled at all. No accident in this van is it supposed to do that. Was being getting the van worked on.

The contact owned a 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated while her daughter was driving at approximately 55 MPH the vehicle stalled. The contact stated that the daughter lost power steering and crashed into a highway barrier on the passenger side. The contact stated that the damage was from the front fender to the rear fender. The contact stated that all the air bags had deployed. The contact stated that the daughter did not notice any warning lights. The contact stated that she had experienced the vehicle stall failure and that failure was intermittent and had occurred while she had been driving on three separate incidents. The contact stated that the police were on the scene and issued a report. The contact's daughter was not taken to a hospital emergency room and was only shaken up. The contact advised that the vehicle was towed to an impound lot. The contact was advised by the police that the vehicle was a total loss. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000.

The contact owns a 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated the key fob remained stuck in the ignition. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing an unknown component on the dashboard to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 30,000.

The contact owns a 2014 Dodge Grand Caravan. The contact stated that the SRS warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the mechanic rewired of the air bag wiring harness, but the failure reoccurred. The vehicle was taken to the independent mechanic a second time, and the mechanic stated that the wiring harness needed to be replaced and advised the contact to reach out to the local dealer. The dealer was contacted, and the dealer stated that the wiring harness was being redesigned because the older model was not functioning correctly. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not contacted. The failure mileage was 80,000.
