2018 FORD EDGE Complaints

The car has been having a chemical smell when it starts. I recently was driving from San Antonio, Texas to Austin, Texas and received a warning that my car was overheating. The warning went off immediately and I continued driving it. A few days later, I got an oil change and was told that I had no coolant in the vehicle. They filled the coolant for me. I continued driving the car. This week, the car was shaking pretty violently when I turned on the ignition. I proceeded to drive it and it drove normally. The following day, a check engine light came on. I took it in to see a mechanic that day and they confirmed that I had a coolant intrusion problem caused by the 2.0L Eco boost engine which is defective and allows coolant to escape into the engine injectors. Ford is not taking any responsibility for this and says that it is not under warranty so there's no programs they can offer me. Ford should issue a recall of this defective product to avoid injuries or accidents.

Coolant intrusion defect. The engine coolant leaks into the combustion chamber, due to a failure in the engine block design. TSB 19-2346 issued by Ford addresses this known and serious issue for my 2018 Ford Edge, 2.0L EcoBoost engine. In 2024, I purchased a used, 2018 Ford Edge with 49k miles. A few months after I purchased this used vehicle at a dealership, my Check Engine light came on. The vehicle showed other symptoms of white smoke, coolant loss, misfiring and rough idle. I brought my car to a local dealership (not the same dealership that I purchased the vehicle) and they confirmed the coolant intrusion defect. When I purchased the vehicle, it didn't come with a warranty. I tried getting help from by calling Ford Customer Service, and they offered no goodwill assistance and no coverage assistance at all. I ended up having a new engine put in my vehicle for $7,000. This was done by a local car repair shop, not done at a dealership. I now have to pay a loan for $7k on top of my monthly car payment that existed before the new engine. Although my vehicle is no longer under warrant, I understand this issue stems from a documented manufacturing defect and has affected a wide range of Ford models. I've taken good care of my vehicle and it has been maintained regularly. I want to retain confidence in Ford as a brand that stands behind its products, but I didn't get anywhere with Ford after submitting a case and speaking with a representative and also a manager. I don't know what else to do in trying to get reimbursed for the replacement of the engine of $7,000. I would like to be added to any potential class-action. The back-up camera failed in August of 2024. The camera displayed a blank or distorted image (it changed as put in reverse) on the center display screen when the vehicle was put in reverse AND on occasion displayed a message on the center display screen that the rear-view camera is unavailable. The vehicle is available for inspection. THE REAR-VIEW CAMERA FAILURE REDUCED OR DISTORTED THE DRIVERS VIEW OF WHAT IS BEHIND THE VEHICLE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. This specific failure is under a current/new recall: Sep 08,2025 Manufacturer Recall Number 25S89 NHTSA Recall Number 25V572. Yes, this vehicle was inspected AND repaired by Greenway Ford, 9001 E. Colonial Drive, Orlando, FL 32817 for which I paid them $1,260.02 on 8/28/2024. I do not recall any different warnings, messages or other symptoms other than those already described here within.

At 77,000 Kilometers, check engine light came on, during inspection it is observed that there is an active coolant intrusion leak in cylinders 1 and 3. This is a Ford Edge 2018, with a 2.0L Ecoboost engine. The car is undriveable and needs a full engine replacement.

Cylinder misfire, caused coolant intrusion into cylinder caused by defective motor wall. This could have caused by engine to lock up while driving and cause an accident. Luckily I was able to get it to the dealer before that happened. FORD is aware of this defective motor in these models but has refused to issue a recall. My car is a 2018, however, the car ONLY has 50,000 miles on it. I want others to know of this danger. These engines should be recalled before someone is hurt in crash due to this defect.

I had a Cylinder misfire (code P0302) due to coolant intrusion into the engine cylinder. This was due to a crack in the engine block. This is a common issue with the 2.0L ecoboost engine. No recall. Ford's fix was for me to replace the long block engine with a redesign version to fix the casting problem. This cost was covered by me, even though this is a known common issue by Ford that requires an engine replacement. The engine had 78,193 miles on it, so it was out of warranty. 2018 ford edge with 2.0 ecoboost engine over heating leaking coolant into cylinders caused engine failure. Lucky this did not catch fire. Ford knows the issue and will not put out a recall. Very dangerous and disgusting business practice.

The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that upon starting the vehicle, while the vehicle was idling, the check engine warning light remained illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the engine was faulty due to coolant intrusion. The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 121,816.

The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that at start-up, there was an abnormal rattling sound coming from the engine. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the flex plate, flywheel, and transmission pump were faulty and needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.
