2018 FORD EDGE Complaints

Rear drivers side brake line ruptured, leaving the vehicle unsafe to drive. The ruptured happened at a bend in the hard brake line at the top of the gas tank.

On the dash board, it displayed a severe warning regarding "engine over temprature" that caused due to the engine coolant intrusion in to the cylinder 2 and caused it to misfire and the engine light to be displayed. After time and money consuming rigorous effort, each and individual parts of the engine checked based on the codes displayed. And, I realized that the engine itself was actually causing the such internal critical issue. Finally, I brought it to the Ford dealership and they told me that the engine has design defect that actually causes the coolant intrusion into the cylinder that shouldn't happen in the first place. And I was told the engine must be replaced. Detailed analysis of the issue discloses that Ford models between 2015-2018 have the same critical issues. However, Ford Motor Company never issues a recall safety issue for such potential engine issue that affected millions of Americans who have these models. I can't afford to pay $10k to replace a long block engine according to the dealer final solution to fix the internal engine problem. The car is disabled and parked out side for almost close to two years now. I am seeking justice. Help.me please!

Engine developed a bad skip, dealer service originally said it was a faulty spark plug or coil on cylinder 2so they replaced those for a cost of $414 on 6/4/26. This did not fix the problem. The second diagnosis identified the engine defect that was causing the skip. They recommended an engine replacement and contacted Ford to request assistance since it's a know manufacturing defect. This request was declined. Campbell Auto Repair replaced the engine on 8/19/2026 at a cost of $6,601.68. We feel that Ford should bear the cost of these repairs.

I am filing a formal complaint for a Safety issue regarding Brakes. When turning, the "Brake Fluid Low" light would flash on for 2 seconds. It did not stay on. Brake pedal seemed normal. When inspected, there was no fluid in the Master Cylinder. No leak was detected. Fluid was in the Brake Booster. They indicated both would need to be replaced. There are 28,000 miles on the 2018 Ford Edge. My Safety and passengers was put at risk because there was no fluid and brakes could fail at any time. The Low fluid light did not stay on. This problem was confirmed at an independent service center. I am taking the vehicle to the Ford Dealer Service Department on 8.26.26 Only when turning a corner did a light come on Low Brake Fluid for 2 seconds. It is not on otherwise. I have had the oil changed and vehicle inspected and used Ford Service at the dealer "The Works" package where supposedly the brakes fluid and breaks were inspected at appropriate intervals and this was last done on 3.11.26 and it was rated as "good" by the Dealership. Based on the fact the Master Cylinder should be good for around 90,000 miles it seems defective and a safety issue. We have 28,000 miles, garage kept, well maintained vehicle Ford has issued massive safety recalls for exactly this issue on 2015–2018 Ford Edge vehicles (specifically Recall 20V-332 / Ford Campaign 20S31) However our vehicle does not fall within the date range. Our vehicle was made of 3/2018. I have called Lasco Ford Dealership and Ford Customer Service. This is our only vehicle and now we cannot drive it.

The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the “Service Engine” warning light illuminated. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that there was coolant leaking into the cylinders and that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 67,000.

The contact stated that while driving 30-35 MPH with her children inside the vehicle and making a turn, while attempting to stop on a hill, the brakes suddenly became inoperable, but the contact was able to avoid a crash. The brake fluid was low prior to the failure. Additionally, fluid was added, but the failure persisted, and the contact’s husband added more brake fluid to the reservoir. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a tire center, which determined that all four brake hoses had ruptured, and there was an associated recall, NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V469000 (Service Brakes, Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the VIN was not included. The local dealer was contacted, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was contacted and provided an address to send all concerns, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.

<67,000 miles Engine needs rebuilt. Available for inspection. Safety - possible cause of accident or at least having one. Has been confirmed by 2 local mechanics but has not been inspected by manufacturer. In October 2025, the check engine light came on, we took it to our mechanic; he replaced the coil pack and spark plugs ($342.89 see enclosed). It was good for a few months. Then approximately April 2026 the check engine light came back on and the overheating light came on. We filled the coolant and it was ok for a month or so. This July (2026) driving down the highway on my way home the car started jerking and jolting and the check engine light started flashing. It was nearly impossible to drive. I got it home by coasting and dealing with the shaking in short spurts and pulling over off the road when cars were coming. The mechanic has now informed us that the whole motor needs replaced.

The vehicle was repaired, but the failure reoccurred in less than a week. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed that there was coolant intrusion into cylinder one and the entire long block needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then taken to a dealer but was not yet diagnosed; however, the contact was informed that the long block needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 23,500.
