2018 FORD EDGE Complaints

The contact's in-laws own a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving approximately 65 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated, and the vehicle lost motive power. The contact stated that his in-laws were able to drive the vehicle to an independent mechanic and was referred to a dealer for assistance. The contact stated that the vehicle was towed to a dealer. The dealer diagnosed the vehicle and determined that there was coolant intrusion into the engine, and that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The contact researched online and related the failure to TSB: 19-2346 Coolant in Cylinders (Engine and Engine Cooling). The failure mileage was approximately 63,000.

The engine overheated and shut down on the freeway. Car was taken to dealer and was diagnosed with coolant leaking into the block. Recommended repair complete motor replacement. Upon research this is a problem with all cars having this particular motor design. I feel this is a safety defect that could result in a car fire while traveling and should be repaired by the manufacturer.

Eco boost engine causes coolant to leak into cylinders causing significant damage and engine failure. Check engine light was on and vehicle is a 2018 with only 28,000 miles. Vehicle is at Ford dealer now so this has been confirmed as they want me to pay $9200 for the repair. Research shows numerous TSB’s and consumer complaints as well as a class action law suit regarding this issue.

Engine light came on. Dealership says that I need a whole new transmission. Car is not slipping and seems to be driving fine. The car has less that 94,000 miles.

My 2018 Ford Edge is equiped with Ecoboost engine and as a result all these problems are occurring: Ford failed to disclose that these vehicles have a defect that causes coolant to leak into the engine’s cylinders, which can cause corrosion, oil dilution and contamination, and engine failure; and failed to disclose these defects create a safety risk, because the lack of coolant created by the leaks causes overheating and can result in the cylinder head cracking, total engine failure, and/or engine fires. Ford dealers have stated that I need a new engine.

The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made of the failure. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 74,000.

The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while cold starting the vehicle, the vehicle was idling roughly and shaking abnormally until the engine had warmed up. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 MPH, the check engine warning light illuminated. The contact had taken the vehicle to a dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that there was coolant intrusion into the engine block. The dealer recommended that the engine be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was 99,243.

Check engine light on 7/11- Code diagnosed as engine cylinder misfire. Warning indicator 9/9- High coolant temperature. Inspection- low coolant level- added coolant. Possibility of engine overheating and catching fire. Few hours later 9/9- low coolant level again with no visible leaks and white smoke emitting from exhaust- brought vehicle to service station- diagnosed with faulty head gasket leaking coolant into cylinder. Ford service bulletin shows known problem with engine block design and recommendation to replace. Brought vehicle to Ford dealer for their diagnostics.

2018 FORD EDGE LEAKING COOLANT INTO CYLINDERS 2 AND 3. WE HAVE BEEN TOLD THE ENGINE HAS TO BE REPLACED, FORD HAS KNOWN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM FOR A LONG TIME AND WILL NOT FIX EVEN THOUGH ITS PROVEN THEIR DESIGN WAS FAULTY, VERY FRUSTRATING

I had a engine failure on the highway causing me to holt to a stop! Lucky it was not super busy and was able to get pulled over safely without getting hit or hitting someone.Turns out I have coolant leaking into my cylinder 3 causing it to fail. Ford tech said it wasn't anything I did wrong most of these motors are going out! If this is that big of a problem why is ford not taking it apon themselves to recall this. From what I am hearing this problem is happening to alot of people. They are making me pay out of pocket for the repairs which just seems crazy because it was nothing I did wrong.
