2016 FORD EDGE Complaints

Head gasket failed leading to coolant leaking into the head causing over heating and cracking the head.engine had to be replaced

On, or around, August 10th, I was driving my 2016 Ford Edge on the freeway, when my car started to stutter. I was not sure if the car would stall in rush hour traffic. The check engine light came on. After that, the car was difficult to start and ran roughly for several minutes. I also noticed that the car had started to use a lot of anti-freeze/coolant. I had the car diagnosed by an independent mechanic and found that the coolant was leaking into an engine cylinder. After researching the matter, it appears that this is a fairly common occurrence with the Ford Edge. There have been recalls for this problem, but my vin number is not one listed on the recall, although it is in the same year and the same problem. I am seeking help in getting this manufacturing failure resolved. I am not currently driving the vehicle, at the problem was getting worse. The vehicle is available for inspection.

Brakes failed and car rolled forward while stopped at a traffic light because of right rear brake line failure. This is the THIRD brake line failure on this vehicle. The first two were left and right front hoses, which ended up being subject of a recall, but only after I had mine fail and repaired. To this date, Ford has refused to reimburse me for those repairs.

The vehicle had not been diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and determined that the VIN was not under recall. The failure mileage was approximately 54,661.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that there was coolant intrusion in the engine cylinder, and that the long block, the drive belt idler, the 2 ball joints pinch bolts, 4 Turbo starts, two coolants, 6 ignition coils, the tread locker, the thermostat gasket, the flex plate, the coolant outlet O-Ring, and 4 intake manifold gaskets needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to an unknown recall. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 100,000.

due to a design flaw coolant could get into piston cylinders. this caused those cylinders to misfire and the engine to run rough and not have the power that it should have. we had to replace the engine at our cost, $7000.00

The contact was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who determined that coolant intrusion into the engine had damaged the short block, and the short block needed to be replaced. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, who confirmed the diagnostic results. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related it to TSB: 22-2229. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but provided no assistance. The failure mileage was 140,000.

The brake pedal also extended to the floorboard whenever it was depressed. The vehicle was later taken to an independent mechanic who determined that the rear passenger’s side brake fluid line had ruptured causing brake fluid to leak from the vehicle. The independent mechanic performed a temporary fix to the brake line and the contact was advised to call the local dealer for assistance. The local dealer and manufacturer were notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 49,000.

I'm experiencing rough engine idle at stop lights or parked, in in gear (under load). At engine start, I am experiencing white smoke from exhaust, some engine mis-fires and low coolant. I started to look up similar experiences and it seems that it is a know issue by Ford, in which coolant is leaking into engine. I have engine power latency from full stop, low fuel economy and steady engine clicking noise/rattle.
