2017 FORD EDGE Complaints

Coolant intrusion into the engine block due to a manufacturing defect in the cylinder walls. Needs engine replacement. I have had this car since 12/8/2020. No extended warranty. I have 60,000 miles on this 2017 Ford Edge and it needs an $8,000.00 engine. I still owe $11,000.00 on this vehicle. If the engine isn't repaired, it could overheat shutting down the motor and could cause extreme danger to the driver and even resulting in a fatality. We as consumers need your help in creating a recall on these vehicles. There are thousands of us that have lost so much money to repairs that should not be happening due to faulty engine blocks.

2L EcoBoost Engine was diagnosed as having porosity issues (tiny holes throughout engine which causes the coolant to leak into engine). The dealership informed me that it is a manufacturer defect and the only fix is to drop a new engine into the vehicle. My manufacturer warranty has obviously expired, but there are known recalls issued on a large number of their newer vehicles for the exact same issue I'm experiencing, as well as a civil suit filed against them in the state of California for the exact year and model of my car for the same issue. I contacted Ford Consumer Affairs and was told they are unwilling to do anything to fix their error as the warranty has expired. While I understand there is no current warranty, if a recall is issued they are responsible for fixing/replacing the faulty part(s) regardless of an existing warranty. Given that this is solely an issue caused by Ford Motor Company, they should be liable to resolve this issue. This problem causes other issues with the heating/cooling system as the coolant levels go to basically zero when the car is being operated as all the coolant is running throughout the engine block and has been known to cause fires and is a major safety hazard for anyone forced to drive a vehicle in this condition.

I am writing to bring to your attention a serious issue I have encountered with my Ford vehicle, which I believe may indicate a broader safety concern that warrants investigation. Below is a detailed account of the problem: On November 27, 2024, my vehicle’s check engine light came on. I took it to O’Reilly Auto Parts, where the diagnostic code recommended replacing the spark plugs and coils due to a misfire in cylinder #2. Following their recommendation, I took the vehicle to Deer Valley Car Care, where the spark plugs were replaced. The check engine light turned off afterward. However, just one week later, the check engine light came on again, and the vehicle began to overheat. I had the vehicle towed back to Deer Valley Car Care, where they diagnosed coolant in cylinder #2. They advised me to take the vehicle to Bell Ford, as they informed me that this was a known issue with Ford engines, and Ford recommends replacing the entire engine in such cases. Upon further inspection by Bell Ford, they confirmed the diagnosis and also recommended replacing the long block engine. This issue, as explained by the dealership, is a known defect with the engine, and Ford is recalling newer models for this problem, but not my specific model. My vehicle has only 75,000 miles on it, and I take excellent care of it. To find that a defect in the engine has caused coolant intrusion into the cylinder is troubling. The fact that Ford does not offer a repair solution and instead recommends a full engine replacement further reinforces the seriousness of the issue. I was quoted approximately $9,000 for the repair, which I find unacceptable considering the relatively low mileage on the vehicle and the nature of the defect. Ford has acknowledged that this is a known issue, yet only newer models are included in their recall, leaving vehicles like mine outside the scope of any recourse. I believe Ford should be held accountable for this defect.

The manufacturer was made aware of the failure but provided no assistance. The contact was advised to contact the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 84,400.

The vehicle was later taken to the local dealer who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that coolant was present in the engine. The contact was informed that the engine long block needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not yet repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The failure mileage was 58,000.

Check engine light has been on and white smoke coming from exhaust and engine Been in for recall repairs several times. Steering wheel feels unstable when driving Suspension is unreliable. This is a very dangerous vehicle to be driving and needs to be recalled for these Known issues.

The contact had taken the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that coolant had intruded into the engine block and the engine needed to be replaced. The contact was advised by the dealer that there was a manufacturer technical service bulletin for the failure 22-2229 (Engine and Engine Cooling), but the vehicle was no longer under warranty and he would have to pay for the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and referred the contact to the Safety Hot Line. The failure mileage was approximately 55,000.

My wife was driving the car and had no heat. Once she got home we realized that the car was out of coolant. This has been found to be the known issue with this car. Coolant intrusion into the cylinder. This has the potential to overheat causing someone to pull over and get hit on the highway. Especially with the snow and low visibility conditions I’m glad my wife was able to make it home without being injured. This car is only a 2017 with around 122,000 miles. I’m writing this to hopefully save someone else in the future.

Took my car to my mechanic said that coolant was draining into my 2.0 ecoboost engine in cylinder 4 causing misfire, white smoke to come out of my pipes, sweet antifreeze smell in the cabin. Have to constantly dump coolant into the car so that it doesn't over heat.when i start the car in the morning it acts as if the car is going to die if I don't hit the gas. Contacted ford, they said it was my problem. I bought the car a year ago. It started at about 72000 miles.
