2018 FORD EDGE Complaints

My name is [XXX] my husband and I have been working with Chapman Ford on a situation with my 2018 Ford Edge. Currently the Edge needs an Engine replacement according to TSB #'s 19-2208,19-2346,22-2133 and 22-2229. This stems from a design flaw issue starting with the 2015 Edge according to the TSB's. The cost to replace the engine is $7030.95, Chapman Ford put in a GCCT Case and got approval for $2,812.38 of the total cost for a known design flaw that should probably have been a recall or at the very least extended the warranty to 150K like Ford has done on other engines with the same issue, but not my model. Ford is telling me I need to pay $4,200 out of pocket to replace the entire engine. I only have 70,000 miles on the vehicle. I feel like I'm getting the run around when it comes to Ford. We have called the company directly and they told us since Ford Chapman made the offer to reduce the cost by $2,800.00, they cannot extend further coverage for the cost. I'm confused here, why am I paying for a design flaw? Why was there not a recall? Can you help? What really upsets me is Ford never notified me of this problem, it was not disclosed when I purchased the vehicle, nor did they diagnose it when my engine light came on. The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving 35 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power and was jerking with the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was diagnosed with a cylinder #2 misfire. The contact attempted to add coolant however, the coolant started leaking from an unknown location. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who stated that the head gasket needed to be replaced. The dealer was contacted and stated that the vehicle needed to be diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was contacted, and a case was filed. The contact was then referred to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was 63,116.

The contact's wife owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving 55 MPH, the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact stated that the failure had persisted. The contact stated that there was white smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe while starting the vehicle. Additionally, the contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the coolant temperature warning light illuminated, and the vehicle stalled. The contact was unable to pull to the side of the road. The contact stated that the failure occurred on several occasions. The contact stated that the vehicle failed to restart and would respond as needed after cooling off for approximately 20 minutes. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, where it was diagnosed, and the mechanic determined that cylinder #3 was misfiring due to coolant intrusion. The mechanic related the failure to TSB Number: 19-2208. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the manufacturer. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the vehicle was not covered under the TSB. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 102,000.

Engine coolant leak 3 months after 5-year warranty expired. 53,000 miles on the car. Apparently this is a known issue with the 2.0L EcoBoost engine. Ford has issues a Technical Service Bulletin (TSB 22-2229 ) on this know manufacturing defect, but customer who is out of warranty is still with $7000-8,000 repair bill.

The car trunk will not latch right and also has problems with latch closing and won't stop even if something is under it. I've had the trunk hit me in the head twice and continued to close and also broke items in the car.

The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 87,000.

The vehicle was bought in 2023 with 72,000 miles. Within one month, the engine light came on for misfire in cylinder 3. After replacing the spark plugs, with one day, the engine light came back on. It was later diagnosed by Ford dealer that there was coolant leaking into the cylinder. The dealer said it is a "known" problem per Ford for several years. A complete engine replacement was needed. The Ford dealership said they replace engines on Edges on a regular basis. This should be looked into as a recall.

Purchased a 2018 ford edge new I’m early 2019. The car has 65k miles and needs a new engine due to coolant leak into cylinder 3. This should be a recall item and Ford refuses to stand by its product. An engine with miles this low should not need replacement.

The contact stated that the vehicle would lose motive power while driving at various speeds. Upon further investigation, the mechanic discovered that coolant had leaked into cylinder #3. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 95,000.
