2018 FORD EDGE Complaints

Antifreeze coolant seeping into engine cylinders causing fumes and poor performance and sputtering.

My Edge overheated on me and had it towed to Ford dealership where they diagnosed my car as having coolant leaking into my cylinders and ruined my engine. Ford is aware of this and does not care at all. I want to join the class action lawsuit over this issue. I’m stuck owing 23,000 on a car i can’t drive and engine replacement isn’t a smart idea since they won’t fix the coolant issue and it will just happen again.

The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light and the coolant temperature warning light illuminated. The contact’s husband inspected under the hood of the vehicle and noticed that the coolant reservoir was empty and added coolant. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that coolant had leaked into the engine and the long block needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and the contact was provided a case number and advised to call the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.

We were sent a recall notice from Ford (Program 22N12-Flexplate) in September 2022. Our vehicle was in the service department for an engine replacement in August of 2022. I asked my local dealer to make repair before I left for a trip from Lewisville, TX to Athens, Ga for our granddaughter's graduation. They would not because the FLEXPLATE must be broken. On our return trip home, we pulled into our hotel in Laurel, Ms. There was loud noise from the engine compartment. Went to the local dealer and he said come back in the morning and they would check it out. They found the flexplate broken and the dealer said the vehicle was unsafe to drive. Thank God it broke in town rather than on the lonely interstate at night. We believe this program should be completed immediately before you are left alone on the side of the interstate. In addition, we incurred extra expenses that Ford is not reimbursing us.

On many occasions, rain pours through overhead lights and buttons when driving or sitting in a rain storm. Safety at risk to drive when raining inside car—very distracting also risk of shock because pouring through lights. A dealer has seen the car after incident. Not inspected by police or others. No warning.

Engine emission light came on. cylinder 2 misfire code. Engine ruinning rough when first started. Dealer found coolant low. Performed diagnostics - need new engine. coolant leaking into engine. Not part of an existing recall but known problem. In reading what could happen: my engine could over heat, seize and start on fire. I was fortunate that none of this occured putting myself or others at risk or leaving me stranded on the road. I am attaching the technical service bulletin. this recall needs to be expanded. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic, who diagnosed that the fuel tank needed to be replaced. The contact declined the fuel tank repair and took the vehicle to another independent mechanic, where the camshaft phaser and an unknown part were replaced. The failure recurred with the check engine warning light illuminated. Additionally, the vehicle failed to start up. The vehicle was then diagnosed by a third independent mechanic, who determined that there was a coolant leak and that the timing chain, oxygen sensor, and fuel pump needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 48,000.

The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer to be repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V413000 (Power Train) and was informed that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V583000 (Engine) however, the neither the VIN nor the vehicle type was included. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 74,000.

Check engine light came on, Cylinder 3 misfire, head gasket cracked and leaking coolant into cylinder, need to replace entire motor.

Cylinder engine misfires due to a faulty manufactured head gasket. Ford motor co was apparently aware of the manufacturing flaw but has yet to issue a recall on certain Ford Edge models sold manufactured and sold between 2013 -2018. The solution to the problem requires a completely new engine with average cost ranging between $6,000 to $8,000 dollars. If these particular models are driven without the requisite repairs it can result in complete engine failure of fires. This presents a serious hazard to drivers and occupants of the vehicle as well as other motorists.
