2018 FORD EDGE Complaints

The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving 50-55 MPH and overtaking another vehicle, the accelerator pedal was depressed and the vehicle hesitated to respond. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact stated upon starting the vehicle the next day, the vehicle experienced a rough start. The contact stated that the check engine warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to drive the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where the sparks plugs were replaced and the check engine warning light was reset. However, the failure reoccurred while driving. The vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic where the check engine warning light was reset; however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer where it was diagnosed that coolant was leaking into cylinder #2. The contact stated that the failure was associated with Ford Technical Service Bulletin Number: 19-2208. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA. The failure mileage was approximately 79,000.

Coolant intrusion into cylinder 2 due to design flaw.Ford is aware of the isssue and has a bulletin for techs to diagnose. This is the same issue happening with the escapes that ford has issued a recall for yet there has been nothing for the edge. My car is 4 years old and I have to pay out of pocket for a brand new engine because of course it is past the warrenty...

Car rolled out of drivewayacross road and hit tree in neighbors yard which kept it from hitting house. 10,000 in damages to rear of car. While car being repaired heard about recall. Body shop told us about it. Took @ 3 months to get car repaired. No one in car at time of rollaway

Check engine light came on as well as a high coolant temperature. Took the car to the dealer and had it tested. Coolant is leaking into the middle cylinders. Will need a new engine.

Engine light came on. Vehicle brought to dealership. Needs new engine 75k miles. Due to "porous engine block". Extended warranty company will not fix because it is a "known manufacturing defect" ($8200) Codes pulled p0303 p0316 Ford is risking the safety of all who are driving these vehicles and those who may be on the road with one. The FIRE RISK associated with this KNOWN DEFECT needs to be addressed.

I've bought a 2018 Ford Edge SEL July of 2021 at Zech Ford (Kansas), it had just a little over 50k miles, within the first month of ownership, engine light comes on (code P0301), I took to the dealership and they replaced the oxygen sensor, everything seemed fine since. This last May, the flex plate cracked, I took to Greenway Ford dealership (Florida) and paid $3,085.36 for the repair, within just an hour of having the car back, engine light comes on (P0301), I immediately took the car back, they kept the car for the weekend, replaced the stream O2 sensor and charged me $105.24, they only charged me for the part, they waived the labor fee since I just had a $3k repair. Now, 2 months later, engine light comes on again for the same code P0301, but this time I can hear liquid running through the dashboard and a lot of white smoke coming out of the exhausts, I popped the hood and see that the coolant container is virtually empty, so I’ve bought some and added to it, I took it back to Greenway Ford, left the car there and couple hours later they called me to let me know that the coolant leaked into the cylinder and tells me that my only option is to have the engine replaced at a cost of $8400! This is my only car, I still owe $22,700 and I do not have $8k to get it repaired! And the car has about 94k miles now,

Check engine light came on and I brought it in for diagnostic. I was told cylinder misfire and coolant is leaking into cylinder and damaged engine. I was told I need a new engine. I have 71k miles so I am outside of warranty. Both the dealer and independent repair shop I went to both told me the exact same diagnosis and that they have both been seeing this a lot with this 2.0 ecoboost engine. There should be a recall on this, not just a service bulletin when it’s a known issue with this engine. Engine replacement should not be happening on this year vehicle and with these low of miles (but just outside of warranty!)

There is a crack in the engine block that is pulling coolant into the engine causing total engine failure. In addition there are carbon deposits in the coolant which means the exhaust is being pulled into the coolant/engine system. The first indicator of a problem was at 80k miles with rough idle and hesitation on acceleration. 2 engine check lights lead to replacing 'bad coils' and spark plugs. Then the car started to overheat and ran out of coolant. We replaced to coolant and it ran out again 3 weeks later. With no evidence of a coolant leak we knew there was a major problem and online research showed likely total engine failure. This has been confirmed by the dealer and requires a whole new engine long block ($9000 repair). Driving a car with a cracked engine block is dangerous to myself and others on the road. Luckily I figured out the problem myself before something happened while driving.

The seat belt on the driver's side front keeps getting locked up and won't release. I have to mess with the seat belt height adjuster to get it to work and sometimes it just doesn't which then makes my seat belt alert light and beep go off every few minutes. It's also against the law to go without my seat belt which is definitely an issue. I haven't even had this car for a year and I have not had any accidents nor did the car report I got when I purchased it state that there were any accidents on it.

The failure caused the seat belt to not latch securely. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the dealer replaced the defective part. The manufacturer was contacted and a complaint was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 80,000.
