2018 FORD EDGE Complaints

The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that when the vehicle was purchased, she noticed water inside the taillights. The contact notified the salesperson at the dealer and was informed that the taillight did not need to be replaced. The taillight was replaced by an independent mechanic. The contact stated that the failure recurred. The manufacturer was contacted and a complaint was filed. The failure mileage was 71,990.

The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated that after starting the vehicle, the vehicle would momentary drive rough. The check engine warning light illuminated and remained illuminated while driving the vehicle. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that the coolant reservoir was low and coolant had leaked into cylinder #2. The contact was informed that the engine long block needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer and local dealer were notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 83,000.

The power liftgate has stopped functioning. After changing the alternator because of a voltage regulator error code and replacing the batteries, the power liftgate continues to not work. If the battery is disconnected, when reconnected the power liftgate will work only once. When trying to engage the feature, the liftgate will attempt to unlatch and lift however, the hatch does not open. Fuses have also been changed. the power liftgate feature has to be disabled in order to properly use the hatch. No one has been able to find a correction for this issue with not only the Edge's but its sister model by Lincoln. Many complaints of the liftgate opening and closing on its own. The liftgate not operating properly removes an access point of not only convenience but more importantly safety. If there were an accident, the liftgate not opening properly would not allow for passengers to remove themselves from the vehicle if that were the only exit point in a crash. Outside of the listed inspected components, the only other option is to have the entire electrical system inspected. At the price point this vehicle is offered on the market, many owners would not have the means to pay the dealership or a private repair shop to take apart their entire vehicle.

The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 85,000. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that there was fluid leaking into the cylinder. The coils, spark plugs, and cylinder #2 were replaced; however, the failure persisted. 5/27/2022-the vehicle was taken back to the independent mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The contact called the Ford Customer Relation Center and they said Ford would not do anything for the engine repair; contact was told to contact NHTSA. Contact received letter from law firm regarding lawsuit for "ENGINE DEFECTS SUCH AS COOLANT LEAKING INTO CYLINDER". The contact stated that engine failure was confirmed by the dealer and it was eventually replaced. 5/31/2022 - Car dropped at Klaben Ford for engine replacement - total cost $6,141.57.

The contact owns a 2018 Ford Edge. The contact stated while driving approximately 35 MPH, the vehicle started vibrating with white smoke coming from the exhaust. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled off the roadway due to the vehicle running roughly with the vehicle misfiring. The contact turned the vehicle off and upon restart, the vehicle was still running with a vibration coming from the engine. The contact had taken the vehicle to an independent mechanic who diagnosed that coolant was present in the engine cylinders. The mechanic determined that the engine needed to be rebuilt. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 87,000.

2018 FORD EDGE. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARD TO PURGE VALVES SAFETY RECALL. THE CONSUMERS STATED THE PURGE VALVE IS AN ENVIORNMENTAL CONCERN. THE CONSUMER STATED THE PURGE VALVE WOULD BECOME STUCK OPEN, EFFECTING THE ENGINE, FUEL CONSUMPTION, AND AIR QUALITY.

Coolant leaking into engine causing misfire and potential for car to overheat if not catch fire. The real issue is this is a KNOWN defect with Ford and to date they have not taken any action. Totally unacceptable!

Upon investigation, the contact associated the failure with NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V250000 (Visibility) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 50,000.

We noticed washing the car today. This date being April 10, 2022. That all the tires mounted on our vehicle has cracking on all the side walls and tread. We are concerned that this may be a very serious safety issue. We just purchased this vehicle about 2 months ago as a used vehicle from a dealership. The miles on this vehicle is 28, 677. Clear day at 5pm. Traveling at 65mph on highway when my rear passenger tire suddenly went flat. There was no debris in the road prior to this. After changing the tire I noticed that the inside sidewall had blown out. The tire size is 245/60R18 105H. Dynapro HP2
