2013 FORD ESCAPE Complaints

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle then began to slowly decelerate. The contact took the vehicle to an independent mechanic, but the vehicle was unable to be diagnosed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.

Power steering out and I am unable to afford the repairs. There is a recall for my make and model my van is not included in. I have already paid for a new transmission when the transmission recall was out and the Gilley Hyde Ford local dealership was dishonest with me and replaced almost $2000 of extra things and gave it back to me broken.

The steering became hard as I turned into a parking space at the doctor's office. It has happened 4 or 5 times since then usually at low speeds. i have been extremely cautious since the first time. It is my mother vehicle, but I was driving it at the times the steering became hard/stiff.

The contact went to check underneath the vehicle and noticed an oil leak coming from the vehicle. The contact also stated that the oil leak had a very strong odor. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed as a failure with the fuel line. The contact was informed that the fuel lines needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and a case was opened. Additionally, the contact was advised to contact the NHSTA Hotline for further assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 180,000.

Always adding coolant, shook on start up, white smoke, eventually completely died which was inspected and had multiple repairs; reconditioned cylinder head, replaced water pump, thermostat and housing, timing belt, headset and head bolts, replace oil filter, fill oil and anti freeze, new battery. Total cost to fix was $3,367.98. The car is available for inspection upon request. Now after paying for all of those repairs, I am once again having the same problem with the car 1.5 years later. There have been no warning lamps either and it’s been going on for over a year and has been serviced for the same reason in the past. There are many other happenings that have happened revolving around failure of the engine system that have significantly affected the safety of myself and others, most recently extreme exhaust that was emitting a gas and burn type smell and the car was shaking heavily at idle.

I was turning right and as I pulled out my power steering totally went out causing g me to loose control for a second but then it came back on almost causing an accident. This isn't the 1st time just the most recent. There's a recall on other years of the same vehicle with Ford for the same problem but not for 2013.

The contact stated that the failure recurred repeatedly. The vehicle was towed to a different dealer where the vehicle was several other unknown repairs were performed. The contact stated that the failure persisted, and the vehicle was taken back to the first dealer where several more unknown repairs were performed. The contact stated that the failure recurred, and the vehicle was not repaired. The contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 12V551000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) however, the VIN was not included. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was opened. The failure mileage was approximately 93,652.

Steering assist fault light has come on randomly since I bought the car in February of 2022 and just 2 days ago on March 30th 2024 my power steering in my vehicle is starting to go making a God awful sound like someone threw gravel into a wood chipper. I see ford has had a recall out for this once before but ultimately are wiping their hands clean of it. This is ridiculous owning a car that has had this many safety recalls on it.

This Car has had non-stop coolant problems for years.Constantly looses coolant and low coolant light comes on and have to refill.I replaced coolant bypass valve 7/8/21,and again on 3/22/23.Its ok awhile then starts loosing coolant again.Few days ago low coolant light came on after refilling it just a week ago.This time the engine light came on code p1299,with a message to pull over because my car was overheating and it didn't have any power.

The contact stated that the Low Coolant warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and checked under the hood. The vehicle was driven to a nearby independent mechanic where the contact was informed that coolant needed to be added to the reservoir. The coolant was added by the independent mechanic and the contact continued driving; however, approximately a week later, the message was displayed again. Due to the independent mechanic's diagnosis prior, the contact added coolant to the reservoir. The contact took the vehicle to the dealer, but the vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer confirmed that the recall repair for NHTSA Campaign Number: 12V551000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) was performed for the previous owner of the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 125,000.
