2013 FORD ESCAPE Complaints

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving 60 MPH, a low coolant warning message appeared on the instrument panel. The contact pulled over and checked the coolant reservoir which indicated that the coolant was low. The contact attempted to resume normal driving; however, the temperature gauge indicated that the vehicle was hot as the vehicle began to stall. An engine warning message appeared on the instrument panel as the contact pulled over. The contact walked to the nearest store to purchase coolant and replenished the reservoir; however, the stalling continued as the check engine warning light appeared on the instrument panel. The contact was able to reach his destination despite the many engine stalls and vehicle restarts. The contact continued driving the vehicle; however, he noticed that coolant had started to leak from the engine. Upon investigation, the contact discovered NHTSA Campaign Number: 12V551000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) which he linked to the failure. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer had been notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 128,000.

This was taken to Kendall Ford of Anchorage. The check engine light come on and start running bad. I immediately took it into the dealership they said I just needed new spark plugs and turn up. But in the note it says there was leaking out of cylinder two and three. No recommendations were given to me. They change the spark plugs and gave it back. Then again it started running bad April 2022. I took back to the dealership in April 2022 and they said it was misfiring but no longer was. I took it back to the dealership again when coolant light started coming on. They gave it back to me and said nothing was wrong. Now because of the leak into the cylinders it’s started overheating due to an internal coolant / antifreeze leak that allows coolant to enter into the cylinders of the engine. The dealership is now stating the engine is flooded with coolant which caused total engine failure and now require replacement of the engine block. My car only has 52,000 miles.

The contact stated that while shifting the gear shifter into reverse(R), a message to “Shift to Park” was displayed. The dealer was not made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 140,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who performed a pressure test; however, no leak was found. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. Steering Column needs to be replaced per dealership service center. The steering became jerky and loose. Also when turning , steering continued to turn and had to be forcibly returned to straight. Very scary.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving approximately 15 MPH uphill, the shifter cable fractured, and the vehicle started to reverse. The contact attempted to depress the brake pedal; however, the vehicle continued to reverse. The contact used the parking brake to stop the vehicle and then attempted to restart the vehicle. The vehicle was unable to restart. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to a local auto body shop and diagnosed with shifter cable failure. The vehicle was repaired; however, the vehicle was towed to another local mechanic due to the check engine light being illuminated, and also because the vehicle was unable to start. The vehicle was then towed to another local mechanic who replaced a fuse and the battery. The mechanic then informed the contact to tow the vehicle to an authorized Ford dealer for further assistance. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact stated that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V413000 (Power Train). The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 155,000.

Car keeps stalling without warning while driving. Inconsistent stalling with NO WARNING! Car restarts without problem, but the stalling is dangerous!!!

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while her husband was driving 35 MPH, he noticed the vehicle was losing motive power. Her husband pulled over at the nearest gas station and noticed a fuel leak underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The dealer was contacted, and the contact was informed that her vehicle had experienced the failure listed in NHTSA Campaign Number: 12V336000 (Fuel System, Gasoline). The dealer informed her that the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was contacted and confirmed that the VIN was not included in the recall. The contact was referred to the NHTSA for assistance. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated that while attempting to start the vehicle, the vehicle inadvertently shifted into gear. The contact then attempted to shift to drive(D) however, the vehicle was inoperable and made an abnormal noise. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the local dealer. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number 22V413000 (Power Train). The approximate failure mileage was 103,000.

My shifter cable was broken first in May 2022 because I switched to park and my vehicle kept rolling.I called the ford Dealership after reading about a recall on shift cables For 2013 Ford escapes and was told my vehicle didn’t fall under the recall. I had it repaired elsewhere. In July 2022 I had the same issue (attempted to put vehicle in park and it was still in drive) contacted Ford and was told the same thing and had it repaired elsewhere since the price quotes elsewhere was about 300 less that what Ford quoted me but not even a week after having my vehicle repaired I get a letter in the mail confirming that my vehicle does fall under the recall. I have paid almost 1,000 out of pocket to repair this issue because Ford lied to me.
