2013 FORD ESCAPE Complaints

When I fuel up my 2013 Ford Escape Se it doesn’t want to start And the oil light and battery light flash on the display and to get the car to start I have to turn the key and keep pumping on the gas pedal then it eventually will start, but this happens every time I put gas in the vehicle. Called Ford and there isn’t a recall on this.

The contact stated that her daughter related to her that while driving approximately 30 MPH, the vehicle started independently braking without the brake pedal being depressed. The contact’s daughter stated that an unknown warning light was illuminated. The contact's husband drove the vehicle to a local dealer, where it was diagnosed that the rear driver’s side wheel speed sensor and ABS sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 105,000.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated that upon shifting the vehicle in park(P), the vehicle began to roll forward. The contact immediately engaged the parking brake. The contact then attempted to shift into drive(D) however, the vehicle failed to respond. The contact's daughter called an independent mechanic who was able to assist over the phone. The contact unscrewed the shifter panel and pulled the lever while the daughter adjusted the cable bushing from underneath the hood. The contact and her daughter performed the fix each time to shift the vehicle into gear. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic and the contact was informed that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V413000 (Power Train). The vehicle was then taken to an unknown dealer where they informed her that part for the recall would not be available until July or August of 2022. The contact then took the vehicle to a local dealer where it remained in their possession. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was 99,600. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact stated while driving 25 MPH, the low coolant level message was displayed. The contact veered to the side of the road and noticed that the antifreeze was leaking from the radiator onto the ground. The contact looked underneath the vehicle and saw smoke. The contact then opened the hood and noticed that there was no antifreeze in the coolant reservoir. The contact contacted an independent mechanic who advised her to refill the coolant reservoir with water and to then take the vehicle to his location since she was 5 minutes away. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the heater hose assembly, the coolant return, and the vent tube assembly needed to be replaced. The parts were replaced. Additionally, the independent mechanic diagnosed that the fuel line hose directly connected to the ignition system was spraying out fuel. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not notified of the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that they could not assist as the VIN was not included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 13V584000 (Fuel System, Gasoline) due to the vehicle manufacture date. The failure mileage was approximately 121,805.

My 2013 ford escape has electrical problems, the biggest issue the gears are jumped. I put it on drive and it gets stuck and then it slows down no power to engine.

The dealer was notified of the failure and the contact was informed that parts for NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V413000 (Power Train) was not yet available. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The failure mileage was approximately 160,000. VIN tool confirms parts not available.

The contact merged to the side of the roadway and discovered that the vehicle was leaking coolant fluid. The contact added more coolant fluid and was able to drive home safely. A dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

I had just come out of the store, started the car, and put the car in drive, however, it started to go in reverse. Although, the gear shift stick is on "D" the dashboard reads "R". I turned the car off thinking it would reset, but it would not reset and now the car won't start back up because the dash is showing that the car is still in reverse and not in "Park". Now, I'm stranded in this store parking lot on a Saturday with no idea of what to do. Please help me!

Car wouldn’t go into park, very unsafe had to put emergency brake on. Yes I reached out to my ford dealer ship. No there was no warnings. This is a very inconvenience when this is my family car and I can’t drive it now because I have to wait to get it fixed because nobody has the simple part! This is beyond ridiculous! Thanks!

Car falsely indicates overheating and goes into “limp mode” not allowing me to accelerate even while driving. Has occurred on freeway, while parked, in intersections, and has posed a threat to my safety over a hundred times. Been yelled at by other drivers and almost hit countless times because I’ve been unable to accelerate whilst trying to pull over safely. “Hill start assist not available” appears and then “engine fault service now” accompanied by the speedometer going to 0mph (even while driving) as well as the RPM’s going to 0. Lastly, “high engine temperature” appears and car starts shaking and lurching and the engine gets extremely loud until I’m able to turn it off. Sometimes turns back on right away, sometimes I’m stuck in car on side of road/freeway for minutes-hours. Been to 2 Ford dealerships as well as many mechanics and have been told it’s fixed several times and it has not been. After replacing transmission, spark plugs, corroded wires, coolant, and more, Ford dealership said they have no idea what is wrong with car. Exploring online I found many other reports of 2013 escapes having the same issues as well as other Ford vehicles. This has affected my safety too many times and I’m unable to find a solution anywhere. Check engine light is always on unless cleared. Has been occurring on and off (more frequently as time passes) since I got car 2.5 years ago and have been unable to receive any help or solutions. Occurs at any speed, even while in park. I have videos as well of the car not turning on and actively showing these alerts whilst I’m driving. Sometimes the car will even be “on” but the entire dash is black as if the car was off.
