2013 FORD ESCAPE Complaints

While driving on I-64 with direction to Lexington, KY, the hood of the car flew back and smashed the windshield. I was going at 70mph on I-64, driving in the middle lane and with my 3yo son seated in the back in his carseat. I managed to keep control of the car, slowed down and pulled to the right side of the road. The car was non drivable, so AAA had to tow us. My insurance company, Kentucky Farm Bureau, has checked the car and stated that is totaled. I have never heard of a car's hood smashing the windshield and the latch not working. There is no police report as they stated that with no collision, there can't be a report. There was no warning lamp about this problem. When going back, the hood ripped the latch from the body of the car. Thankfully both my son and myself were not injured and no one on the road was affected by this.

For the time I have owned this Ford Escape (4.5 years) the coolant has been leaking since I drove it off the lot. They could not find any leaks and just topped with coolant until the warranty expired. I have had numerous repairs done to my car and as of 06/18/2022 the coolant leaks is so bad I’m having to fill it up with antifreeze twice per day. It’s leaking from the driver side but they can never tell me exactly where. I’ve contacted Ford directly about this to be told my Vin number does not fall under the engine coolant recall, however it’s the same engine size etc. the check engine light has came on for 4.5 years but goes off so I don’t get the proper time to retrieve the code. It will sometimes loose power in the middle of roads and highways which is very dangerous. Please can you help me. I have an investigation into my 2013 Ford Escape eco boost 1.6L overheating, Vin number is not synced with the current recall for the coolant leak/overheating/fire troubles.

Unknown Coolant is leaking, but from under the hood on the drivers side. All the coolant poured out of the vehicle after the car was shut off on June 16, 2022. This has not happened again but has continued to leak. I noticed there was a recall for my year escape for coolant leaks and possible fires in 2012. I would like my vehicle to be inspected for this by my Ford dealership, along with the other recalls to be done.

Car basically does not want to pick up during acceleration. The accelerator has been replaced and this is still an issue, almost caused an accident.

The contact owns a 2013 Ford Escape. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V413000 (Power Train) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that while parking the vehicle, the gear shifter was shifted into park(P); however, the vehicle rolled forward. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 107,000. Service engine soon light came on and began having issues with the low coolant coming on every few weeks. Codes on engine light came up as Engine Coolant Bypass Valve C Control Circuit Open. Vehicle then started having coolant light come on multiple times in the same day after coolant had been added and then would not start. Tried to start and Engine made a clanking noise and alerted to turn off immediately. Codes read again for bypass valve and now Engine Misfire on Cylinder 4 and misfire on startup. Had vehicle towed to a shop and upon inspection they observed coolant leaking into the engine due to block/head porosity in metal. Was told that this was a common problem with this engine style and the only was to fix is to replace the engine. Was told if the engine was not replaced that it would continue to misfire and may experience engine failure or fire while driving.

My power control steering module is failing. A ford dealership told me the part in my car was defective and they have updated the part years ago. I was told the part alone will cost me around $1,000+ and that I have to pay out of pocket. Ford dealership said the part is on backorder until December 2022 and that I can only get the part through their manufacture. This is extremely dangerous and my steering could go at anytime!

The contact was knocked over by the open driver's side door and pulled under the vehicle by the tires. The contact suffered a "grade 2" concussion, facial lacerations, and multiple abrasions and bruises over her body. The contact had three broken ribs on the right chest area and two ribs on the left side. Additionally, the contact had severe bruises on her right clavicle and right shoulder. The contact was transported by ambulance to a hospital. The vehicle had rolled into a neighbor's yard and crashed into a fence, which resulted in minor scratches to the back bumper. The contact stated that the fence had sustained no damage. The contact had not taken the vehicle to a local dealer or independent mechanic to have it diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact researched online and related the failure to NHTSA Campaign: 18V471000 (Power Train). The manufacturer had not been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 136,000. The VIN was not available.
