2019 FORD F-350 SD Complaints

Towing a trailer at approximately 60mph, hit a bump and the vehicle / steering wheel started shaking. Slowed quickly, pulled over and stopped. Checked loading of vehicle, trailer, tire condition, found nothing amiss. Believe I experienced my first “death wobble”. Have not had a repeat experience.

The contact owns a 2019 Ford F-350. The contact stated while driving at various speeds and driving over a bump in the roadway or a pothole the vehicle experienced the death wobble. The contact stated that the vehicle would shake uncontrollably until the vehicle slowed down and the vehicle resumed normal operation. The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 20,000.

My 2019 F350 that only has 10,000 miles develops violent "shaking" episodes while driving down the road. I've had it for 1.5 years and it has happened at least a dozen times. I'm taking it in for it's second service and I'm going to ask the dealership to look into it. When I googled this it appears this is an ongoing issue with these trucks and the Ford Motor Company is not really fixing the issue. It is extremely dangerous and you have to pull off to the side of the road in order to get the truck to stop shaking.

The truck tailgate opens unintentionally and with no notice. This has happened several times, seemingly randomly, and there is no notice from the driver seat that the tailgate has opened, other than visually looking via rear view mirror or from the outside of the truck. I am not able to reproduce the malfunction, as it happens randomly. So far, it appears to happen mostly when parked and/or when switching between park/drive/reverse. I have not positively confirmed the tailgate opening while the vehicle is in motion, but definitely have noticed it was open while driving after pulling into a parking space, reversing out, and then continuing to drive. The vehicle is available for inspection anytime. Luckily, this malfunction hasn't caused any damage yet, but if it were to happen while towing it would damage the truck and/or trailer, and if it were to happen with a load in the truck bed, I'd be at risk of losing the load, potentially unknowingly while driving. No indications or warning lamps are present when the tailgate opens on its own. I first noticed this happening in June 2021, but didn't think much of it. It happened again in August 2021, and then happened several times during the day of Sept 4, 2021.

Had the infamous "death wobble" happen to me over the weekend. Luckily, I was by myself and I was familiar with the issue. The steering wheel was shaking violently and it felt like the front wheels were hopping. I slowed down but the issue persisted, I then pulled to the side of the road, came to a stop and the shaking stopped. I've called the dealer this morning and scheduled an appointment for them to look at it. Its a 2019 F350 with 27k miles. This is the first incident, like this, that I've had.

Three separate times while driving on I-90 our truck started to shutter violently and shake uncontrollably until we were able to come to a stop. We had 3 children in the truck the last 2 times and we were afraid we would lose control of the truck. It seems to happen while driving over 60 mph and the highway has bumps or grooves. Once the truck hits the uneven road it shakes out of control until we’re able to get stopped and pull off the road.

While towing my 5th wheel travel trailer east bound on I-40 from Albuquerque, NM on 8/23/21, the truck and trailer started shaking violently after hitting some small wash board bumps. Only by quickly slowing down from 65 mph to under 40 mph was the situation corrected. After the shaking stopped I sped back up to 65 mph and everything seemed to be normal. A few more miles down I-40 the shaking returned, again after hitting a short section of wash board. This time was more violent than the first, so I pulled over and did a walk around looking for any obvious defects on the tires, wheels and observable suspension components. I did not find any problems, so I continued with my trip to Lubbock, TX. the phenomenon did not occur again. I have not had the truck inspected by a mechanic yet. I have researched this problem and found out that it seems to be a fairly common occurrence on Ford Super Duty trucks with four wheel drive. Why hasn't there been a recall issued for this problem?

Travelling at speed (+/-65mph) on I-25in Colorado, I hit a pothole. Immediately, my steering wheel started shaking uncontrollably. This truck was purchased new in 2019, and currently has less than 6,000 miles on it.

Front end suspension and steering wheel shake violently when hitting a bump in the road at around 65 mph. Lost complete control of truck until I hit brakes hard to slow down and shimmying stopped. Very serious and dangerous situation. This has happened two times, once at about 30,000 miles and again at 45000 miles.

The Vehicle when encountering a road obstruction starts to shake and shimmy, pulling the steering wheel too and fro. this causes the driver to instantly put on the brakes. The situation is all over the internet. Ford knows about this issue and still sell them to unaware customers.
