  • 2015 GMC CANYON
    - Somerset, PA

The steering on my truck a 2015 GMC Canyon totally locked up! Fortunatlly the vehicle was parked when this happened. Suppose I had been on an interstate highway at 65 miles per hourwhen this happened! There was a recall for this very same problem on this very same 2015 model in 2016. My vehicle was not part of the recall and I feel that it should have been in the recall and maybe this wouldn't have happened This recall was Bulletin No.15595A.

    - New City, NY

The contact owns a 2026 GMC Terrain. While driving at 28 MPH, the RPM became elevated to over 3,000 RPM. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact immediately pulled over and then resumed normal operation after the failure. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed; however, no cause for the failure was found. The contact was advised to bring the vehicle back to the dealer if the failure reoccurred. Approximately one week after the initial failure, while driving approximately 30 MPH, the transmission unexpectedly downshifted to L2. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact pulled over and restarted the vehicle, and the vehicle was taken back to the dealer. A diagnostic test was performed, and the contact was informed that the transmission needed to be rebuilt. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and was provided a case number. The vehicle remained with the dealer unrepaired. The failure mileage was approximately 1,300.

At right under 40,000 miles the engine blew. The GM dealership that repaired my car would never tell me exactly what happened, and they were very sketchy about the whole experience, but it required a complete engine replacement from GMC when the engine quit working.

I suddenly noticed a noise coming from the engine that sounded like a noisy lifter and stopped using the car after hearing it. The next day I called Circle Chevrolet to check and verify if they could check the car and do any work required under the CPO Warranty. They advised that they could since they were part of the GM Family and could do any work required under the CPO Warranty. I then arranged to have the car towed to Circle Chevrolet to prevent any further damage, that was on Oct 20, 2025. The CPO Warranty was due to expire on Oct 27, 2025 due to time, not mileage. The dealership advised that the vehicle would need to be examined by one of only 3 qualified mechanics in their shop who could do this evaluation and determination if the issue(s) were covered under the CPO Warranty and it would be about 3 days before they could have one of their 3 qualified technicians check the car. The Service Adviser called me back on October 22nd, 2025, and advised that Cylinder 5 had noisy lifters and that they would be changing out the engine with a newly rebuilt engine, all under the CPO Warranty. The Service Adviser said it would take 3-5 days to get the replacement engine in and then about 2-3 days to replace the engine. However, less then 24 hours after getting my car back, the check engine light came on, which was not on when I had the car towed to the dealer. They said the catalytic converter needed to be replaced and said it would be ~$6000. They refused to cover the replacement even though the catalytic converter was damaged due to a combination of the engine problem/defect and the testing and installation work performed by the dealer. I reached out to the dealer and GMC and they refused to address the issue and would not provide an itemized estimate to replace the catalytic converter and refused to return my phone calls I made to both the Service Adviser and Service Manager. The GMC representative I spoke to refused to address the issue as well.

On 15-Jan-26 (approximately 5 weeks after the vehicle was serviced for the NHTSA #25V274) while doing highway speeds the vehicle suddenly started huffing and loosing propulsion. After the dealership did their initial inspection found that lifters in at least one bank were damaged. The suddenness, the randomness and severity of this unprovoked failure (I wasn’t towing anything or going uphill) combined by the fact that the dealership previously gave this vehicle a clean bill of health makes me have no confidence in the road worthiness of this vehicle.

    - Louisville, KY

On January 19, 2026, Recall 25V274 was performed on my vehicle, and this was not disclosed to me when I picked up the vehicle from the dealership, Courtesy Buick GMC in Louisville, KY. I only found out when I got home and read through all the service notes. I contacted the dealer on January 19 after I got home, asking for explanation and have not heard back. The Recall Remedy failed. Since the service, symptoms of hesitation, lack of propulsion and low MPG persisted. As of Feb 1, the vehicle has suffered a transmission failure and is unsafe. The dealer told me verbally everything was fine, and in the service notes from Jan 19, they noted vehicle as 'Operating as Designed and Within Spec' despite performing safety recall work."

My 2023 GMC Sierra Denali experienced a catastrophic engine failure even after receiving the official recall repair. The recall remedy did not prevent engine failure. This raises serious concerns about the effectiveness of the recall fix, especially given reports that NHTSA is evaluating this recall’s efficacy. I was stranded on a hill and this was a very dangerous situation.

  • 2024 GMC YUKON
    - Westbury, NY

This report documents two separate safety incidents involving the same vehicle that occurred on different dates. Approximately one month prior to the most recent incident, while driving my young children to school, the vehicle experienced a sudden and severe loss of braking effectiveness while in motion. I was unable to stop normally at stop signs and had to roll through and roll to a stop. I was required to press the brake pedal fully to the floor to slow the vehicle, and even then braking response was significantly reduced and not functioning as designed. The engine remained running and the vehicle could still accelerate. After stopping and restarting the vehicle, braking function temporarily returned. On a later date, while again transporting my children, the vehicle experienced a complete loss of power while driving. The vehicle abruptly shut down while in motion. I was unable to accelerate and experienced loss of power assisted braking. The vehicle only came to a stop after coasting. Following this shutdown, a burning or melted plastic odor was present. The vehicle was later towed and inspected by a dealership. The battery was replaced; however, this did not resolve the issue. After the battery replacement, the vehicle later hesitated to start again. The exact cause of these failures remains unknown. These incidents occurred without warning and represent serious safety critical failures involving braking and propulsion systems. Both incidents placed my children, myself, and other motorists at risk. Had either event occurred on a highway or heavily trafficked roadway, there would have been little to no ability to safely slow or stop the vehicle, creating a significant risk of collision or serious injury. Due to these events, I no longer feel safe operating this vehicle and have stopped driving it. The vehicle remains available for inspection.
