GMC Complaints

This car was subject to the GM Recall N2524940000 – This is related to engine failure in the vehicle. My Yukon Denali received the recall service on XXX at Liberty Buick GMC in XXX. It was determined that my engine would not fail and the car needed the heavier oil and a new oil filter. The car also received a 10 year warranty on the engine as part of the recall. XXX We were traveling down XXX Southbound on XXX headed to Atlanta to see family for Easter Break. My wife, son CJ (Age -XXX), XXX (XXX), and our English Cream Golden Retriever , Goose. We were traveling at 75 MPH on cruise control when a car came out in front of me. The car slowed down to adjust for the car moving out in front of us and then the engine completely shut-off and the car shifted into neutral. The car electronics turned off briefly, then came back on, with the dashboard saying “Push Start to turn on”. I hit the start button and nothing happens, I pushed the button several more times and still nothing happened. This occurred between 1:45 - 2:00 At this point, I begin to move into the right lane as we are approaching Exit XXX in [XXX]. I pull off on the exit, go about half way down and pull to the side, stopping the car. I place the car into Park and then push start on the car, nothing happens. I attempt to do this for about 5 Minutes and the engine still will not start and the car will not shut off completely (All electronics are still working). There were no warning signs that the vehicle would fail. The vehicle was inspected by GMC who determined that the engine had failed and would require full replacement. The contact owns a 2024 GMC Sierra 3500. The contact stated that the tailgate frequently opened independently while the vehicle was parked. The vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V060000 (Latches/Locks/Linkages); however, the failure persisted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by a dealer or an independent mechanic. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was provided. The failure mileage was approximately 40,600.

The contact owns a 2017 GMC Yukon XL. The contact stated that the vehicle was previously repaired under NHTSA Campaign Number: 19V645000 (Service Brakes, Hydraulic); however, the failure occurred after the recall repair. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal was depressed and went to the floorboard. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle continued to move forward and rear-ended the vehicle ahead. There was no air bag deployed. There were no injuries sustained. A Police report was not filed. The contact stated that there was damage to the front bumper. The vehicle was driven away from the crash scene. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer, and the failure was associated with the recall. The contact stated that an unknown module needed to be replaced, but the manufacturer had to authorize the repair. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 170,000.

The contact owns a 2023 GMC Yukon XL. The contact stated that while driving approximately 30 MPH, the vehicle stalled. The vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was towed to a dealer; however, the failure was not duplicated. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 49,460.

2023 Yukon XL AT4 with 67k miles suddenly had lifters fail. GM service said cam scored & metal debris all the way through to the pan, requiring total engine replacement. Vehicle was very well maintained with premium fluids and parts.

My vehicle was taken in as part of the 25v-274 recall. It passed and was given the new oil. It underwent a second oil change using the new oil and before the third oil change at around 46,000 miles the engine was having trouble. I took it in for the oil change and the engine issue. I have barely been told anything but from what I understand I have a camshaft issue and need new lifters. I haven't seen my car in 12 days and have received almost to no updates.

COMPONENT OR SYSTEM FAILED - GMC Dealership replacing fuel pump. SAFETY OR SAFETY OF OTHERS AT RISK - stalled in remote area with no internet/cell service. In order to get to safety we travelled 13 miles of narrow 2 lane roads with no shoulder or escape areas. Road included 3 miles of a steep downhill grade. HAS THE PROBLEM BEEN REPRODUCED OR CONFIRMED BY A DEALER - Yes, Walser GMC [XXX] WERE THERE ANY WARNING LAMPS, MESSAGES OR OTHER SYMPTOMS OF THE PROBLEM PRIOR TO THE FAILURE - No, drove 400 miles w/2 stops, rest stop and lunch/gas. Got to our destination, shut off the car. Needed to move the vehicle to designated parking spot and at first the vehicle would not start, got it started but lurched forward, engine chugged, no acceleration and then stalled. Waited 10 minutes vehicle started with same symptoms but became drivable so we headed to safety 13 mile to nearest town, [XXX]. The area has recently been battling forest fires and in our area, although "safe", there was still HIGH fire danger. We did not feel safe w/o a vehicle for (possible) rapid escape. The city has limited services, no rental car company, no Uber/Lift, closest car dealership 90 miles away. Vacation cancelled. Hired North [XXX] Towing to transport vehicle and people 300 miles to Walser [XXX], [XXX]. Family member drove us to our home in [XXX]. To date vehicle mileage - 30,000 miles! The contact owns a 2015 GMC Sierra 3500. The contact stated that the brake pedal and accelerator pedal lifted while depressed, causing the engine to rev. There were no warning lights illuminated. The dealer was contacted and made aware of the failure. The vehicle was not taken to the dealer to be diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not informed of the issue. The failure mileage was approximately 37,000.

The contact owns a 2012 GMC Yukon. The contact stated that the radiator and the water pump were previously replaced due to an overheating failure. The contact stated that while driving at various speeds, the engine made a knocking sound. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to AutoZone, where it was diagnosed with engine lifter failure. The contact replaced the spark plugs on several occasions; however, the failure persisted, and oil contamination was found on the spark plugs. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 175,000.

Approximately 3 miles from my residence my car display flashed "Reduced Engine Power" and slowed down. When I reached a stop sign and tried to stop, my brakes were stiff and I was unable to stop. I went through the stop sign. I continued to my residence at 10mph and backed into a parking space with a curb to help stop my vehicle. I turned the car off and called a mechanic to come look at my car. I explained the events and let him know it would not start. He checked the codes after hooking it up. The error codes were for Cam shaft and crank shaft, etc. I was instructed to not try and start the car because further damage could occur and it would need the camshaft pulled to determine the extent of damage.
