On 05.29.25 my 2021 GMC Yukon Denali with 24,000 experienced engine issues and ultimately a total failure. While driving at 65 miles an hour the engine light began blinking and a thumping/knocking noise began on the front passenger side of the vehicle. I was 1 mile away from the GM dealership and went there immediately. They called me two hours later confirming the engine failure and that it would have to be replaced. They stated, however, the engine is experiencing a national backorder. No timeline has been provided for the engine to be received or replaced. I am curious to know if the new engine will come from the same engine group that is currently having issues, and if this can happen again.

2022 GMC SIERRA 1500- Royal Oak, MI
I was on the way to the airport and my vehicle suddenly went into reduced power mode and had trouble shifting into gear. I pulled over, shut off my truck, and turned it back on only to have the problem continue. I was able to turn around and make it home, but the vehicle would then not shift into reverse. We had to push the vehicle so that I could position it in the street. Once we were back from vacation, I took it to a GM Certified Service location (my local Cadillac dealership). After review, they diagnosed a defective valve body and the engine recall. I’ve been informed as of today that my valve body will be $3,000 and GM will not cover it because I have more than 60k miles on the truck (it has 72k). After research, this is a common issue and it is ridiculous that GM will not escalate the issue and help consumers with this clear problem due to their manufacturing and/or design. The vehicle is currently sitting at the dealer waiting for a back ordered valve body and I have had to go out of pocket to rent a vehicle. Every service for the vehicle has been completed at a GM Certified Service location. It is available for inspection immediately, if required.

2023 GMC YUKON- Las Vegas, NV
I am filing a complaint regarding my 2023 GMC Yukon Denali Ultimate, equipped with the 6.2L L87 V8 engine, which is currently under NHTSA Recall 24V-266 for a potential engine failure due to defective bottom-end components. I received the official recall notice indicating that the issue poses a serious safety risk, including possible loss of propulsion and engine failure without warning. However, despite this being a mandatory safety recall, I’ve been informed by my dealership that no remedy is currently available, and I have been provided no timeline for repair or inspection. This effectively renders my $115,000 vehicle unsafe for normal use, yet I am left with no clear recourse, no loaner vehicle, and no repair timeline. I am now forced to restrict my driving to short errands only to reduce risk—completely unacceptable for a vehicle of this cost, class, and usage expectation. I am requesting that NHTSA formally investigate the timeliness and adequacy of GM's response to this recall and consider enforcing provisions of the Motor Vehicle Safety Act that require manufacturers to remedy defects within a reasonable timeframe. Thousands of affected owners are currently left without a fix for a potentially dangerous engine flaw.
