There currently is a serious recall on this vehicle and there is no remedy available. I’ve called the dealership and they confirmed this information. The service department claimed the sales department may be able to help me and then sales said it was a service dept issue. I have children who have been placed at risk as they have been traveling in this vehicle since April 2024.

My Truck has been consuming oil since new, latest documented consumption test was 1.25 quarts in 1967 miles. GM dealership said that is normal and no further diagnosis is required. GM says acceptable consumption is 1 quart per 2,000 miles. This truck has a 6.2L engine that is not under the current recall ( N252494000 ). The engine problems affect more vehicles that the current recall and should be investigated.

  • 2023 GMC SIERRA 1500
    - El Paso, TX

While driving vehicle I received a message on the dashboard, "Reduced acceleration, drive with caution" and then the check engine light came on. Took the vehicle to local Autozone to get code read and was told "P1028" was the error code. Schedule an appointment with local GMC dealership for diagnosis. After three days dealership told me that the technician has diagnosed my truck with faulty "Engine Coolant Control Valve". I was told the part is backordered with no ETA. Asked for a loaner vehicle while truck is waiting repair and was told there was nothing available. When asked about what I should do transportation, dealership told me I could come pick up the truck and drive it until part arrived but I would need to watch for further engine issues as the engine could overheat. How do you tell a customer to just continue driving a vehicle with a known issue. Additional fear is what if additional harm is caused and because I drove the vehicle with a known issue they won't cover the cost of repair? This all seems fishy and unfair as a consumer.

  • 2020 GMC SIERRA 1500
    - Lexington, SC

My engine slowed down on the interstate. My steering wheel was visibly shaking and I lost the steering access control. The truck threw an Cylinder 6 error code. At the mechanic, they identified that at least one of my camshaft lifters had failed. If I had continued to drive my vehicle, the engine block would have eventually locked up.

  • 2020 GMC SIERRA 1500
    - Thornwood, NY

I was driving my 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 on a local street when the dashboard suddenly displayed a “Brake Failure” warning. I immediately realized I had no braking power and had to safely roll into an uphill parking space to stop the vehicle. While waiting for the tow truck, I researched the issue and discovered there is a known recall related to the brake calipers on some 2020 Sierra 1500 models. However, when I entered my VIN, it showed no open recalls. I also contacted GMC directly, and they confirmed that there are no active recalls associated with my vehicle. Additionally, the vehicle's onboard information system indicated that the front brakes were at 65% and the rear brakes at 80%, suggesting that brake wear was not a contributing factor.

I took my 2020 GMC Sierra 1500 to the dealership after Cylinder #5 seized while driving, and I was forced to replace the entire engine. At the time, I contacted the dealer and was told there was no recall related to this issue. However, I have since learned that GMC has issued a recall for similar engine problems affecting 2021–present Sierra 1500 models, but not for my 2020 model year. I believe this issue may be related and would like further investigation and consideration.

  • 2025 GMC HUMMER EV SUV
    - Veradale, WA

On [XXX], my [XXX] son was riding in the back seat of our 2025 GMC Hummer EV (VIN: [XXX] ) and reported his seatbelt felt loose. I pulled over and discovered the seatbelt bracket was completely detached from the vehicle frame. The bolt was present, but the nut that secures the bracket was entirely missing, leaving the belt nonfunctional and my child at risk of serious injury or death in the event of a collision. This is a catastrophic failure of a federally regulated safety system. I immediately contacted GMC and the dealership, explained the issue, and stated the vehicle was unsafe to drive. Despite this, I was told to drive the vehicle in for service on 6/9. The dealership confirmed the nut was never installed during manufacturing. However, instead of repairing the defect properly using OEM hardware and torque specs, the dealer used a generic lock nut found in their shop and said it “should hold.” No engineer signed off on the repair. There were no warning lights or messages. The issue became apparent only after my son noticed the looseness. The vehicle also has other documented issues: mirror folding failure, seat cushion defect, hydraulic frunk failure, swing gate malfunction (fixed), and a squeaky rear door. All were diagnosed on 2/28/25 and parts were ordered. I received no follow-up. When I returned on 6/9, nothing else was repaired. The advisor said the original technician had left and the new one couldn’t proceed. I also own a second 2025 Hummer EV (VIN: [XXX] ) and am now concerned about its integrity. This experience has caused ongoing emotional distress. GMC’s failure to inspect, respond, or properly repair a critical seatbelt defect demands NHTSA investigation and possible recall.
