GMC Complaints

The contact owns a 2023 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that while driving at speeds of 70-75 MPH or faster, the vehicle failed to accelerate or downshift without warning. The RPM increased; however, the vehicle failed to accelerate. The vehicle hesitated and jerked while changing gear. The dealer was contacted and diagnosed that there was metal in the oil which could cause engine failure. The dealer had performed several firmware updates; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and opened a case. The failure mileage was 41,000. I was driving on the highway at 60mph and the engine shut off. I was fortunate enough to be able to get the truck off the road without incident. The instruments instructed me to try to start the vehicle again. Upon doing so the engine made very loud and erratic knocking noises and I shut it off. I towed the truck to the GMC dealership where they told me the engine had thrown 2 rod bearings. They told me this was VERY common with the 6.2L engine. The truck was extremely well maintained with all services at the dealership, and only had 70,000 miles on it. GM quoted me $15,436.00 to replace the engine. I did open a case with GM when the incident occurred. Case # [XXX]

The truck is not even 2 weeks old and driving down the road at less than 50mph the sunroof exploded. Nothing fell on the sunroof and no other vehicles were near the truck at the time the sunroof busted.

The contact owns a 2023 GMC Yukon. The contact stated while driving approximately 25 MPH, the vehicle was jerking and driving roughly. The contact stated that the odor of burning metal was present inside the cabin of the vehicle, and the messages "Service ESC and Traction Control" were displayed. The contact was able the slowly drive the vehicle back to the residence, and later the vehicle was towed to the local dealer, who discovered metal shavings inside the engine oil. The contact stated that the fuel injectors and carburetor were replaced, but the failure was not resolved. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed that the VIN was included in NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V274000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). The contact stated that the vehicle had experienced the failure listed in the recall. The failure mileage was 25,734.

Engine was replaced 11/24 Found toe bar loose and rear passenger tire had excessive slack in it, well liners were broken off and missing 2/25 Oil loss and had to have oil changed early 4/21 Start button will not engage, truck is completely blacked out, no power to it for several minutes then it will crank. Been in the shop as of now 3 times in the month of May 2025

My vehicle is equipped with a 6.2L L87 engine. I have taken this to the gmc dealership in complaint of non consistent power of the engine and a vibration of the engine. The dealership believes it was the brakes and they were replaced along with the rotors. The problem still persists I feel after reading the stories of how other engines have failed that are L87, this is a similar problem but not covered under the recent recall.

I am unsure except for what they told me the engine completely seized up I was heading back from Grand Junction Colorado over Vail Pass nothing appeared wrong with the engine it was going fine and then completely powered itself down and stopped at the top of the pass would not come back on cost me 1100 to tow it down from a mountain getting no assistance from GMC other than they tell me one thing the dealer tells me another this is not the first time I've had problems with this it was in the shop from December through February no reimbursements no nothing nothing but problems since I bought it no help I've tried to do my best but my husband passed away at the time of all this was going on I could really use some guidance and some answers and what I should do they're telling me 8 to 10 weeks and they're not promising any kind of new warranty with this engine take what I have or buy an extended one from them that just doesn't right

My wife and I were going 70 plus MPh on [XXX] in Georgia in the far left lane. Our car completely lost power were had to maneuver across 2 Lanes to get to the emergency lane it was very scary traffic was blowing horns and it was awful. We made it to the emergency lane and proceeded north at a creeping pace with engine making lots of noise. We made it to a hotel next to [XXX] we were in Savannah Georgia. We tried to contact the local GMC dealer but it was after hours so we stayed the night and next morning got a tow to Critz GMC. At Critz we were Informed our engine was beyond repair and needed replacement. They proceeded to offer me $10,000 on a trade in, said it would take 3 months to get a replacement engine so I called my dealer back home White Motors Roanoke Rapids NC and they advised it would take several months to get a new eng and they couldn't tow me in so I called David Towing and they said they would come get it for me in the next week. We to Enterprise to rent a car and there were none available for a week I decided to buy a new car from Critz to get home . I am receiving a "Shift to Park" notification on most instances that I shift the car into park. When this warning engages, the car will not allow me to turn it off as it does not recognize that it is in park. After researching this issue, I found that there is a GM Recall for 2017-2019 GMC Acadias for this very issue. However, my VIN is not included in the recall so I do not qualify to have the issue fixed and would have to pay a substantial amount out of pocket.

-While driving the vehicle on the highway, abruptly lost power and RPM. Check engine light, along with multiple other warning lights lit up. When parking the truck soon after, had an associated rough idle with low RPM. The truck was then towed to GMC dealership. -Multiple fuel injectors failed, starting misfiring and caused damage to the engine. Unknown if previous injectors are available, replaced at GMC dealership. The damage resulted in recommendation to replace the engine. -Engine began misfiring while traveling at highway speeds, placing me at an increased risk of loss of control of the vehicle. -The problem was reproduced, confirmed, and inspected at a GMC dealership. -No warning lights or symptoms were present prior to accident. Incident occurred abruptly.
