GMC Complaints

With no warning, the engine died in my vehicle. I was in the middle of a busy intersection at red light with my children. No sensors ever indicated there was a problem. The car could not be put into neutral so it couldn’t be moved until a tow truck came.

Without any signs of an issue the engine seized while driving on the highway, Thursday [XXX]. Thankfully my wife was exiting the highway when the vehicle shifted its transmission into neutral, allowing my wife to coast onto the shoulder. The vehicle would turn on the electronics, however the engine would not attempt to turn over. The vehicle was towed to Carl Black GMC of Kennesaw. I was originally told the transmission was the potential problem but the transmission tech was on vacation until the following Monday the 14th. Once they looked at the vehicle, at that time they determined that it was not the transmission. The engine had seized and that there is at least a 6 month wait for another engine. They have not recommend a further diagnoses of the exact failure within the engine due to the common occurring issue with these engines. While driving the transmission will slip/hard shift very aggressively causing the rear tires to lock up. This would happen at unpredictable speeds (anywhere between 10mph-65mph), this occurred for about 2 weeks before vehicle ever gave a code. VERY scary and dangerous especially if you are in traffic since it essentially "brake checks" those behind you. The last incident that finally provided a code occurred at 50 mph when the rear tires completely locked forcing the vehicle in park. Could no longer drive the vehicle after this. The error code states that a rear body valve is needed for the transmission which the dealer is unable to get and neither the dealer or manufacturer can provide any estimate of arrival. Has been in the shop for almost 2 months now waiting.

Previous years of my truck with the Allison “branded” transmission have been reported to lock up while driving. From what I can gather there was a recall. Instead of fixing the issues with the transmission a program was installed to put the transmission in limp mode during the failure. My model, a 2023 apparently came with the limp mode feature already installed. When my transmission failed it took the truck out of gear and locked up for a moment before I could safely pull over.

The contact owns a 2022 GMC Sierra 1500. The contact stated while driving 45 MPH, the vehicle lost power. The engine failure warning light was illuminated. The contact pulled over to the side of the road and stopped the vehicle. The contact turned the vehicle off, exited the vehicle, and added oil to the engine. The vehicle was towed to dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but offered no assistance. The approximate failure mileage was 62,000.

I had to replace my transmission at 71902 miles. I complained to Flow GMC dealership over seven times about the Vibration , jerking, shaking and shuddering. Most of the time when I carried they said they can not duplicate the problem. On Feb. 05, 2025 I was driving and stopped at a stop light when I pulled off the vehicle started vibrating, shaking and had a hard jerk. I thought someone had ran in the back of me but that was not the case . I had it pulled in to Flow GMC they checked it out and said the transmission need to be replaced. I had it replaced at the dealership. I had to pay $7782 to get a new transmission. I read were they being are all on some GMC models. I want to know why the 2017 GMC has not been recalled.

"NHTSA campaign: 19V645000 AS the vacuum level drops, the brake assist decreases, increasing braking effort, extending the distance required to stop the vehicle, thereby increasing the risk of a crash." Our vehicle was serviced and repaired for this problem under the recall on 9/6/2019, however, it is now happening again. Is there a second recall for this problem, and/or what can be done to remedy the defective equipment?

The contact owns a 2022 GMC Yukon XL. The contact stated while driving 70 MPH, the vehicle lost motive power. The contact was able to pull over safely. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed and determined that the main rod bearing had failed, and the engine needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired after three months. The manufacturer was contacted and opened a case. The failure mileage was approximately 48,044.

Brake booster went out and lost all braking ability on interstate doing 65 mph in spring of 2022 - had brake booster and exhaust cam replaced and April 20 2025 same break and same effect - no braking ability at interstate speed - extremely dangerous situation
