I was driving approximately 45 MPH and my 2023 Yukon STOPPED completely and it would not move at all, it stopped just into where the intersection starts. After 2 hours it was towed to the GMC dealership. I am now told that it needs a new engine at just 15,000 miles. Apparently this is a “thing” I had no warning whatsoever. The dealership has it now and it is waiting on a new engine. Extremes scary and now they said they will put a new one in and it “shouldn’t happen again”. Ridiculous Engines are on back order for at least 60 days because of this problem I’m told.

Engine has seized twice, completely shutting down without electrical power or brakes. The vehicle also shut down in an intersection (no power, brakes, flashers). I was able to pull to the side on the 2 engine seizures but not during the electrical shutdown at the intersection in the turn lane. The engine was replaced the first time by Quality GMC in Albuquerque, NM. The 2nd engine is being replaced by Diamond GMC in Palmdale, CA. Warning lamps on the 1st engine seizure was tire pressure warning. The electrical shutdown was forward collision warning, emergency braking, etc. The 2nd engine seizure said something about engine needed to be restarted.

On March 21, 2025 my 2024 GMC Yukon Denali's engine died while driving 80 miles an hour down the highway with my family. We were able to coast to the shoulder. The vehicle would not restart. We called a tow truck. When the tow truck arrived the vehicle started but we decided to take the vehicle to closest GMC dealer. They ran diagnostics on the lights that were showing on the dash and nothing was reported. They had no recommendations. We were 3 hours from home returning from Spring Break so we decided to keep traveling. We made it about 120 miles and again the engine died while traveling 70+ miles on the highway. We were able to safely coast to the shoulder. We called a tow truck and the Yukon was towed to the local GMC dealership. The next week it was reported to me that the Yukon would need a new engine. The 1, 3, 5 rod bearing had spun and the 3rd trust bearing had spun. Since there were no rental cars in the city available we rented a U-Haul truck and drove 2 hours home. Almost one month later we are awaiting the new engine to be delivered.

Vehicle was purchased new in December 2023. In January 2024, with 110 miles on the vehicle the engine blew. Took over a month to get a new engine installed. In March 2025, with 14,500 miles on the vehicle, the engine blew again, This time i was traveling on a busy New York parkway with my [XXX] grandson. Luckily i was able to coast off the parkway without incident. I am now still awaiting a third engine to be installed. 1. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The vehicle experienced a sudden loss of power while driving, which has been attributed to a blown fuse and an underlying engine failure. The dealership has confirmed that the engine needs to be repaired. The vehicle is currently at the dealership and is available for inspection upon request. 2. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? My [XXX] son was driving the vehicle alone at night over a busy bridge when the car suddenly lost power without warning. He had to coast down the bridge in heavy traffic with limited control, putting himself and surrounding drivers at serious risk. Fortunately, he was able to pull over safely, but the situation could have easily led to a serious accident or injury. 3. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, the vehicle was towed to the dealership, where the issue has been diagnosed. They confirmed that the engine is damaged and requires repair. They also identified that the initial trigger may have been a blown fuse, which led to the complete engine failure. 4. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives, or others? The vehicle is currently in the care of the dealership’s service department. It has not yet been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance representatives. No accident occurred, so no police report was filed. 5. Were there any warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? There were no prior warning lights or symptoms leading up to the failure. The oil had recently been changed, and no issues were reported during the service. The only warning that appeared was the transmission warning light, which came on simultaneously with the vehicle’s sudden power loss. My vehicle’s engine was the component that failed. I was driving home from work. It is a forty-two minute commute. I was five minutes away from home when the vehicle slowed down in speed to a cruise. There were no issues prior after startup. There were no strange sounds, no start up issues, and no lights on the dashboard at all. I noticed that the vehicle had put itself into neutral gear. When I tried to stop the vehicle by hitting the break, the break did not work. I put my foot on the gas pedal and the car did not speed up. I could not change the gears. There was nothing I could do. The vehicle came to a complete stop when it powered off. When the car was put into accessory mode, there was an error message that stated the engine/vehicle was in low power mode. I was not able to start the car’s engine again. It was useless. The only way to move the car anywhere was to have it towed. This failure was scary and dangerous because it occurred in the middle of the night on a main road. Cars are known to drive above the speed limit past midnight in this area. I was glad that there were no cars on the road at the time. I was not aware of this failure occurring for my vehicle no were there any other known recalls. After doing some personal research, I found that GMC and certain Chevy models are having this problem, but no source listed any GMC Terrains as affected vehicles; although the same thing that happened to other people happened to me. I purchased an extended warranty through Fidelity Warranty Services, Inc. (Platinum) when I purchased the vehicle. They were the ones that had done all the necessary inspections for the filed claim once the vehicle was taken to a GMC Service center: Anderson Buick in Cockeysville, MD.

Was going up a hill and all of the sudden the engine stopped, the truck coasted to the edge of the road. A message came on saying 'Press start to reset engine.' Doing so did nothing. The truck ended up having to be towed to a dealer. They were not able to turn the engine over by hand and ended up diagnosing the engine as a seized from a failed bearing. They ended up replacing the entire engine with a new identical one. They have not been able to tell me if the new engine is in the same engine group that I could experience the same thing a second time.
