2021 GMC ACADIA- Lakeland, FL
While driving the engine cut out. I wasn't able to get the vehicle off the road and had to put in an acceleration lane until I could get a tow. Other drivers entering the roadway were accelerating and some didn't realize that my road hazard lights were on and almost hit me. The vehicle was given a diagnostic check by a service station and say that the Fuel Pump Power Control Module is not working. After checking the Internet I found a recall for this item on other GMC models but not the Acadia. There was no advance warning for the malfunction.

2023 GMC SIERRA 1500- New Baltimore, MI
While driving on highway, during rush hour at [XXX], in the center lane of the highway the engine turned itself off and stopped running. Was traveling with traffic, approximately 70-75 mph, engine turned off the truck started deaccelerating rapidly. Was able to change to the right lane and pull over on to the side of the highway. Truck rolled roughly 100 yards and then stopped. The dashboard lights were on and gave the appearance the truck was running, but it was not. Could not restart the vehicle. Tow track came and had to drag the truck up to the truck bed and then shack it off - when taken to the dealership. Truck could NOT be put in neutral. Truck is current at the dealership. 2015 GMC YUKON- Raceland, LA
With my child in the car, on a highway with no shoulder, I experienced lifter failure. It caused the vehicle shake and lose power with cars driving behind me at 55-60 MPH with nowhere to pull over. The engine just stopped as I was finally able to make it to a driveway safely. Problem was identified by dealership and my engine had to be rebuilt. I purchased the car second hand 3 months prior with no warning or symptoms. The car was inspected at the dealership by the extended warranty company rep. The extended warranty only cover a portion of the cost. The collapsed lifter cause damage to the camshaft and bent rods. The car only had 107,000 miles. If I were not able to pull off before the engine stopped, my daughter and I could’ve easily got rear ended on a Major state highway. The car was difficult to control due to the engine shaking the entire SUV.

2016 GMC YUKON XL- Lapeer, MI
When accelerating from a stop, the engines revs up to really high RPM's before shifting hard into 2nd gear, and again while shifting hard into 3rd gear. This started in the last week. The engine/trans currently have ~133,000 miles. Accelerating slowly, not exceeding 1,500-1,700 RPM will reduce this occurence, but it takes significantly longer to get up to speed, which is a problem when entering 55 MPH traffic. We've had to pull off the road to avoid causing an accident while merging with traffic since the transmission seems like it won't shift, causing me to have to let off the accelerator to try and allow the transmission to shift so I can continue accelerating.

2024 GMC YUKON- Salem, OH
On March 3, 2025, my 2024 GMC Yukon had a rattle/knock. The engine quit running and would not restart. The Yukon had to be towed to the dealership for diagnosis and repair. The dealer indicated that the engine required replacement due to metal shavings and bearing damage. The Yukon had 6450 miles when the failure occurred. The engine was replaced. This vehicle was purchased new in September 2024. This failure occurred while on the road at a traffic light and the Yukon could not be moved out of the traffic lane. Sheriff notified to provide scene safety while waiting for tow vehicle and during loading onto tow vehicle. No traffic accident occurred. There were no warning lamps on the dash or warnings on my phone app immediately prior to the failure.

2023 GMC YUKON- Chandler, AZ
We were driving our 2023 GMC Yukon AT4 from Phoenix, Arizona to Flagstaff, Arizona, which is about 2.5 hours north. A few hours into our drive, about 40 miles away from Flagstaff, as we were driving ~75mph on the [XXX] highway (in the middle of nowhere), all of the sudden our GMC just stopped working - it started slowing down on its own, put itself into Neutral, and nothing was working. We were able to pull over to the side of the road where we used OnStar to reach GMC Service, who called us a tow truck. As we were on with OnStar we tried restarting the vehicle and nothing was responsive. For hours our family, two adults and one child, were stuck on the side of the [XXX] highway with semi-trucks flying by us waiting for the tow truck. We were then told the two truck could only fit two persons, so I had to order my own Uber to pickup myself and my son in the middle of nowhere, leaving my husband to wait alone, dangerously, for the tow truck. Important to note a major winter storm was coming in this afternoon, so with no power it was also freezing cold in the broken down vehicle. The GMC was towed to the Chevy dealer/service center in Flagstaff, who was able to have a mechanic look at the vehicle that day. After a few hours they contacted us and let us know the entire engine blew and would need to be replaced. They let us know this is a "known issue" with certain Chevy/GMC/Cadillac SUV's that have the 6.2 engine. We purchased this vehicle brand new in late 2023 - at the time of this "catastrophic engine failure" issue, it had only ~12,000 miles on it. We were forced to leave our GMC in Flagstaff for repair, and told it would likely be 4 weeks or more to get the new engine. We were also left without a 4x4 vehicle for the entirety of our "vacation" in a major winter storm. There were no warning lamps, messages, or other symptoms of the problem prior to failure. 2020 GMC SIERRA 1500- Kearney, MO
While driving our 2020 Sierra AT4 down the highway at 65 mph, the engine suddenly cut out and started sputtering. Every light came on. We pulled off the highway and had the truck towed. Our highly trusted, family mechanic company diagnosed lifter 5 was twisted and stuck, along with another stuck lifter. The cost to replace the engine was one hundred dollars more than repairing the two lifters. They purchased a new engine through Van Chevrolet and were surprised the cost had recently decreased from $7-8k to $3900, to purchase a rebuilt engine. The engine appeared to be new, with the bolt threads unused. The new engine comes with a 3year 100k mile warranty through the dealership. We called GM, they said since we went to another mechanic they would not speak with us.
