  • 2018 GMC SIERRA 1500
    - Council, NC

The failure was a lifter collapsed in my vehicle's motor. I had reduced power and major shuttering due to the issue. If I had been towing a load I would have possibly become a hazard by not maintaining a speed that would have been able to keep up with traffic flow. Also if I had been in an congested traffic area I would have been slower to clear or have major breakdown causing increased backups. It was confirmed by a local shop. There were no warning lights at the time of incident, nor leading up to this incident. Fortunately no accidents or disruptions happened and I had to be towed in to a repair shop.

Engine - catastrophic failure 6.2 liter V8. Vehicle is currently at dealer awaiting full engine replacement. Failure left me stranded waiting for tow to dealer. Problem has been diagnosed as rod and main bearing failure, engine replacement imminent. Vehicle was running perfectly fine all day. Went to take my daughter to basketball practice in evening initially everything was fine, then we heard squeeking, turned around to bring right back home, lost power in intersection, truck stalled. Got restarted check engine light came on and limp mode reduced power activated. Truck towed to dealer and oil pan was pulled. Rob and main bearings have scattered metal throughout the engine. Truck confirmed to need full replacement.

On [XXX] driving to Las Vegas Nevada from Garden Grove California, coming down the hill north on [XXX] just 12 miles from state line our GMC shut off and went into Neutral. The Engine completely shut off and we were lucky to pull over on the side of the road with no power. Our Vehicle was towed to Auto Nation GMC in Henderson NV. The Vehicle is still there due to no engines available. My GMC case number is [XXX]. I have agreed to a repurchase from GMC and accepted their offer, however now they are stalling. On [XXX], I was driving approximately 70 MPH on [XXX] when the engine stopped without warning. I had the vehicle towed to Causley GMC where it was repaired. I was on the way home from Causley driving on [XXX] when the engine stopped again. I had it towed back to Causley. The next day they called me and said that the engine was destroyed and needed to be replaced. Both times it stalled I was on the expressway and if I were not able to coast to the side of the road, I would have been in a very dangerous position for me and everyone else on the highway. There was not a warning before the engine stopped, so it was very fortunate for me that I had enough momentum to be able to coast far enough to get in a safe position.

On Wednesday December 4th 2024 at 5:45 am on my drive to work my engine shut down, truck electronically shifted into neutral, and notified me to restart my engine. After I rolled to a stop in a safe area off the main road i tried to restart my engine, with no success. I then called my local dealership to inform them of the issue, and they instructed me to call OnStar and have them setup a tow to their facility. Once the vehicle was delivered it took the dealership 24 hours to determine that the engine had locked up and a replacement was needed. It has now been almost 2 months with no update on my truck or the replacement engine.

was driving on the highway at 55mph and the engine just quit running and thankfully no one was near me and I was able to pull over on the side of the road. All the dash lights stayed on but the truck would not restart, code on dash board said "Conditions not correct for shift" Had it towed to the dealer and they put a new battery in it, but it broke down again on the way home same as before. Now they are telling me I need a brand new engine.

My 2018 Silverado 1500 has had 3 cylinder 4 misfires over a 9 month period that had to be repaired after warranty. This caused the repair/replacement of the lifters. I have had this happen for a forth time this year January 7 2025 with the same code of "cylinder 4 misfire". That means four of the same issues in one year. I can be driving along smoothly, then suddenly from one light to the next, the check engine light comes on with the misfire to cylinder 4 coming on. It was shared with me the AFM can cause this to happen. On the third time of misfire, I saw a little smoke, then once it was repaired with lifters replaced, no smoke and back to running smoothly. This time the intake cam lobe was scored which voided the warranty. I am now at a crossroad as to what to do now, and have parked the truck for now. It is my understanding the 5.3L engine was considered a solid engine until the AFM was installed. Did I mention this is the first "truck" I have ever owned? I have had a Chevrolet vehicle since I was able to drive, and have never had engine problems of this magnitude. My concern now is that this could cause my engine to lock up while I'm driving around and cause a possible accident. I depend on this truck as my mode of transportation, but now I have to make a decision that impacts me greatly as a senior citizen on a fixed income.

  • 2017 GMC SIERRA 1500
    - Salem, VA

Diving my 2017 GMC SIERRA 1500 down the road and all of a sudden it had a big bang in motor, luckily only going 35 miles an hour. Had a slight tick in engine which I had gotten after most recent service visit, and had scheduled to take back to dealer. When I had checked it with a scanner, it only showed a P0700/P0711 code which was for transmission, otherwise no other lights or codes until that day when check engine light came on. Immediately stopped driving and pulled in parking lot and had car towed to dealer that day, [XXX]. They had called me back on [XXX], and said that they had to go further into engine for diagnosis, for extra charges. They called back next day and said that there was a camshaft failure that led to bent rod and metal in engine. Only fix was to replace engine. I then went and talked to them about cost and cause of failure, which is what I previously have stated. I then put in a call to GMC CUSTOMER CARE about the issue, and what they could do to help with issue, because no engine should fail with that few miles on it. Stated also that I had bought vehicle used with factory warranty still on it , and had all service since done at a GMC DEALERSHIP, and that they had all my records. And also, that the previous owner more than likely had all service done at a GMC dealership since it was all under warranty at the time. My service request with them is number [XXX]. My basis is on TSB Bulletin No: 20-NA-142 and Bulletin No: 15-06-01-002M . Which shows that GMC Corporation was aware of issues. At moment I am awaiting response from GMC. while driving down the road i noticed the truck had a lack of power and then the check engine light came on and as soon as it came on i heard a ticking/clacking noise. I got the truck towed to a repair facility and they found misfire on cylinder 8, they informed me and wanted to drain the oil and also removed the valve cover in order to check the valve train. They found a lot of metal in the oil along with a decent amount of decent shavings in the oil filter. They removed the valve cover and found a bent pushrod and stuck lifter. They did mention a possible noise coming from the bottom end of the engine (knocking) but at this time with the amount of contaminates in the oil and stuck lifter, The engine is recommended to be replaced. No ETA at this time for a replacement

The engine completely failed without warning. The vehicle stalled and would not restart. I was unable to put the Yukon in neutral in order to move it out of the way of traffic. As I was in the process of turning I was completely blocking oncoming traffic. When the vehicle was finally towed to the dealership they told me that there was no oil in the engine. I had checked the oil 2 days prior and the dipstick showed full. We had no leaks in the driveway and no low oil indicator came on to warn us. A dealership in Holland Michigan had just looked at the vehicle to take care of some recall updates and reset the oil indicator telling me that we could get it taken care of later as it was only 2000 miles since the previous oil change and the previous oil change company hadn’t reset the percentage indicator properly. In the case of LOW OIL there was no warning whatsoever.
