  • 2024 GMC SIERRA 1500
    - Drums, PA

I purchased this vehicle new in August of 2024. Approximately 2 months ago when the temperatures outside temperatures started falling below freezing, I would frequently get a message, "reduced acceleration, drive with care" pop-up on the center screen, and the check engine light would illuminate. This happens almost every time the outside air temperatures are below 28-30 degrees. Occasional the truck engine loses power and acceleration, but not always. This code pops-up regardless of the engine temperatures. It has been to the dealer where I bought it each time, and they state that GMC told them it is normal. They reset the computer, and the check engine light goes out until I run the truck in temperatures below 30 degrees. The dealer has been great with me, but dealer reports GMC will not cover their services under warranty as GMC reports this is normal. This condition happens unannounced and almost all the time in cold temperatures. It has happened at least 12 times. The performance can be a safety issue when this condition comes about, and you're driving in traffic. I opened a case with GMC on Thursday, January 16, 2025. It is case number [XXX]. I spoke with Graham, the customer service representative who reported that this issue will be escalated to the regional CE Manager because of the frequency that this is happening. Graham reported to me that this CE Manager will be in touch within 2 business days which would be Monday, January 20, 2025. I received a call mid-day on Wednesday January 22, 2025 from a woman from General Motors. I was at work at my full-time job and could not speak very long. I asked if she could call me after 4:30 PM when I was done working, and she replied "sure, we can make that happen." She advised me to get my truck to the dealership. My truck has been at the dealership since last week. As I am typing this, I just received a call from a Christian. Please review attached pictures, and call if you need elaboration. [XXX] . - South Dayton, NY

The contact's son owns a 2021 GMC Sierra 3500 Commercial Vehicle. The contact stated while her son was driving at an undisclosed speed uphill, the vehicle failed to shift to a gear higher than 5th gear. Additionally, the rear wheels locked up, causing the vehicle to come to a stop. The driver attempted to resume driving, but the vehicle failed to exceed 10 MPH. The contact was unsure whether a warning light had been illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the residence of the driver's girlfriend. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer, where it was diagnosed that the failure was related to NHTSA Campaign Number: 24V797000 (Power Train); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. Additionally, the dealer informed the contact that the transmission needed to be replaced, but the part was not available. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 133,000. Parts distribution disconnect.

I have been experiencing trasmission problems. The vehicle jerks, shutters and makes numerous thumping sounds during acceleration as well as at certain constant speeds. It frequently make a lound clunking sound when first put in drive and beginning to move. On January 16, 2025, I took the truck to Rubideaux GMC, 351 W Dalton Ave, Hayden ID 83835, for inspection. I was told that the torque converter "was shot" and that the transmission fluid was scorched and there metal shavings in the transmission filter. The service manager informed me that I needed a new transmission at a cost of $7,000. the dealer told me that they will have to find a remanufactured replacement which by their description are in short supply. I went to an independent shop in the area and was quoted a similar price. The employee also advised me of a class action law suite that was in process for 2016-2020 GM trucks and SUV's and passenger cars equipped with the model 8L transmission with the same problem. Several suits are under way including, [XXX] et al v GM, I find this situation especially concerning given the very gentle treatment Ive given this vehicle since I purchased it new. The truck only has 63,000 miles on it and I have never towed anything with this vehicle nor carried any load of more than a couple oh hundred pounds in the bed of the truck. What component failed? Transmission. The transmission is still in the truck pending available replacement. How was your safety put at risk? The transmission could fail while driving causing a lack of vehicle control. Has the problem been reproduced by a dealer? Yes it was confirmed by the dealership listed above. Has vehicle been inspected by the manufacturer, police, or insurance? It has been inspected by a licensed GMC dealer. Where there any warning lamps, messages or other symptons.....? The engine started making a rattling sound while on an interstate. The vehicle was able to make it to the next exit before it immediately lost power leaving it on the shoulder of a narrow road just past the exit ramp of the interstate. The vehicle was towed to a local GM dealership where technicians confirmed the engine was no good. This is the second engine that this vehicle has had replaced one at 18000 miles and one at 20000 miles. The engine failed with no clear warning signs, no check engine light, and no obvious causes like low oil.

Truck is equipped with AFM and the lifters failed causing a no -power situation. First happens at 57,000 miles then again at 82,000 miles. Not only was this a dangerous situation, but also a very expensive situation. GM knows these are defective and should have been recalled and repaired on their dime, not mine. Pictures of bill included are only of the first repair. Second repair pictures are available upon request.

I took my SUV (Yukon SLT 2023) to the GMC Dealership 4/5 months ago because of 2 recalls, Failed Brake Fluid Leak Detection and Serial Data Gateway Model. The car was repaired according to the dealership. About 2 weeks ago, I entered my garage to auto start my vehicle and my SUV would not auto start. I waited a few minutes and tried to start it again from inside the vehicle and it started. When it started, the engine light was on and on the dashboard, brake system failure was displaying. It was very strange. So, I let my vehicle idle for a couple of minutes and tried to move the car in the garage. The car started jerking when I put it in drive and a message displayed on the dashboard telling me not to drive my SUV over 40 mph. The brake system failure and engine light were still on. It was very strange. I parked my SUV and let it sit. I'm taking my SUV back to the dealership on Thursday. I'm thankful I wasn't on the highway traveling to work, who knows what could have happened. There are massive problems with these vehicles, brakes, engine, computer systems, etc. I do not feel safe driving my SUV. I drive 41 miles each way for work and I don't feel safe driving this vehicle now with all the recalls, including the engine.

We were driving South on [XXX] when lights on the dash started flickering and the vehicle switched itself to Neutral and had a sudden loss of power. We were lucky enough to get out of traffic and spent 5 hours waiting on Roadside Assistance and a tow truck. It was a very dangerous situation. The service department at Sullivan GMC Ocala (352)-414-4962 first said that replacing the Fuel Module would fix it. 5 days later they said it needs a new engine. They plan to replace it with the same 6.2 engine. (same part number that is defective) The electrical safety system should be recalled. With no warning, the vehicle loses power and stops. GMC and every service department manager that I have spoke to knows about this issue. GMC continues to market and sell these engines and vehicles. Someone is going to get seriously hurt or killed because of GMC's negligence. GMC Case [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

While driving at highway speed we experienced a bearing failure that let to an engine replacement. The engine was subsequently replaced for galling from the piston arm. No warnings or engine malfunction notices occurred prior to the incident. It is my understanding there is an investigation into this specific problem with the 6.2L GMC engine. We were fortunately able to exit the freeway and immediately stop the vehicle to avoid any further safety risks.
