2020 GRAND DESIGN SOLITUDE Complaints

There appears to be massive frame flex and/or failure my unit interior stairs have been scrapping on walls as well as large hutch, have suffered roof separation at cap, suspension failures with broken leave springs

Factory weld failures in the walls of the front of the 5th wheel. This is a manufacturer wide issue that has been well documented. This problem will only continue to get worse as time goes on and become a safety hazard, yet Grand Design refuses to acknowledge the issue.

The contact owns a 2020 Grand Design Solitude RV. The contact stated while driving 65 MPH, both the rear and the front entry doors of the trailer would unlatch. The contact also stated that the failure occurred while driving at lower speeds on bumpy road surfaces. The contact stated that the front entry door would unlatch but would not open all the way due to a safety bar that was designed to keep the door closed. However, the rear entry door would open gradually while driving. The contact stated that upon veering to the side of the road to manually close the rear door; while the contact was driving at a slower speed, the rear door flew open and struck the road sign on two different occasions causing damages the door. The contact purchased an RV handrail designed to close over the ends where the door would open. The contact installed the part herself. The contact stated that the rear door still unlatched but no longer flew open while driving. The dealer and the manufacturer were not notified of the failure. The RV was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was unknown.

On Monday May 30th, 2022my husband Mike was sitting in the recliner and heard a couple of “pops” and then he heard another louder “pop.” He got up and walked over to the glass sliding door and saw our 2020 Grand Design Solitude 310G camper was on fire. He turned to me and hollered for me to call 911 and that the camper was on fire. He immediately ran outside and ran into the garage/workshop and took the garden hose that was attached to the hydrant and began spraying the garage/workshop roof from the south as the flames were not only engulfing the camper but the wind was blowing some flames toward the garage/workshop. I placed the call on my cellphone to 911 at 12:28 pm. After I placed the call I immediately went outside. I started to take some pictures at 12:38 pm. Our neighbor across the road saw the black smoke and immediately came over. Mike had him take over the garden hose he had been using and asked him to continue spraying the garage/workshop. Mike then ran outside and grabbed the garden hose attached to the outside hydrant and went along the back of the garage/workshop and around the north side of the garage/workshop and started spraying the garage/workshop roof from the north. The Albany Fire Chief arrived by private vehicle and assessed the situation and then radioed his crew information on what he wanted them to do when they arrived. When they arrived the Fire Chief immediately took one of the hoses and started spraying the garage while the others concentrated on the camper fire. The camper and inside contents were totally destroyed by fire. We believe the fire started near where the refrigerator was located. There is currently a recall 22V-038 from Grand Design regarding risk of fire due to a wiring issue behind the refrigerator that we were not notified of. My husband Mike suffered 1st & 2nd degree burns on his face and legs which were treated medically at home (I am a Nurse Practitioner).
