2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE Complaints

We have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 5.7L Hemi engine. Today on XXX, we were moving slowly in traffic on a street in Linden, New Jersey, and suddenly the vehicle accelerated by itself. My wife pressed on the brakes all the way to the floor but the vehicle kept jumping forward - the engine was revving and trying to move the vehicle forward while my wife was firmly pressing on the brake pedal. Because we were in stop and go traffic, the vehicle eventually lurched into the car in front of us and caused an accident. The front of our vehicle was damaged as was the rear of the car in front of us. This sudden acceleration has happened a few times in the last 3 years. During the previous instance of this sudden acceleration, on [XXX] we also hit a car in stop and go traffic. The air bags deployed and we had extensive repairs done because of that. This happened another time as well. During that instance, we did not hit anything, and the only way we were able to stop the car was by switching the gearshift to the Park position. The headrest restraint in the driver's seat spontaneously deployed hitting the back of my head while I was driving. It is available for inspection. The deployment was startling/surprising - quite a distraction - my impulse was to turn around to see what hit me - it wasn't readily apparent until I re-oriented my body in the seat and found my headrest had moved forward making it uncomfortable to drive. A web search indicated other Jeep/Durango owners have experienced this - some are attempting to "reset" the headrest on their own. A call to Chrysler/Jeep customer care confirmed that the warranty on this item had been extended to 14 Mar 2023 - no recall. I was not notified to my knowledge. They declined to help me. The vehicle has not been inspected. There were no leading indications of a failure, nor is there an indication currently, other than the headrest is split open and it is uncomfortable to drive. Why has a safety device that has obviously failed in multiple cases and was known to the manufacturer not become a recall?! This is irresponsible! The dealer indicated there is no means to repair this - a replacement headrest. In light of the cost of "repair" it is no wonder owners are trying to fix this on their own.

Fuel pump failed. Electric control module/system failed. I have been having these problems since 2021. When it first started my car stalled out, completely died, and started rolling (even though I was pressing the brakes) - I had to pull my E brake and luckily stopped an inch away from hitting the car in front of me coming to a stop because the light turned red. My entire car shut down. I had to get a tow. I took it in to a shop and they had no idea really what happened or what it was. They told me a bunch of stuff was bad (thousands and thousands of dollars worth of stuff) and I ended up only getting whatever was absolutely necessary which was the fuel pump and battery. $1300 later it was driving at least. Ever since then my gas gauge has NEVER been accurate and just goes up and down randomly. I have to track my gas by resetting the miles of my “total trip” when I fill up. My dashboard constantly went on and off and I never knew what was accurate and what wasn’t. About 6 months ago my dashboard went completely black and hasn’t came on since. My car is now barley taking over 4 gallons of gas at a time before the auto stop on the pump cuts off. If I try refilling anyways gas overflows. This makes absolutely no sense. I can’t see how fast im going, hear my blinkers go on and off, see how much gas I have, how many miles are on my car, any check engine lights, and now I can’t drive over 75 miles without having to “fill up” my measly 4 gallons again before the pump shuts off. I was never notified of any recalls but there is absolutely no way my car is excluded from them. The electronic control module is fried, I can’t even get gas, and a brand new battery and fuel pump was clearly just a miniature band aid on this disaster chain of problems. I’ve only had this Jeep for like 5 years too and what it’s worth is not even worth a fourth of the cost it would be to fix all of this.

Vehicle was parked in my front yard and sometimes between the hours of 830am and 3pm the driver side headrest activated (popped). No warning lights before or after it activated. Issue could have caused an accident and possibly caused injury to myself or my children had I been driving when system activated. Vehicle is available for inspection Issue is a known problem as a simple Google search would show

I was driving down the freeway when I felt my headrest strike the back of my head. This caused a momentary distraction as my head was pushed forward and the back of my head was struck. The headrest component of the safety restraint system deployed. It is available for inspection upon request. The dealership inspected and said this is a known problem but they would not cover the repair as it fell outside of their warranty period which ended 10/2023. It would be a cost of $800+ that I would have to pay. There are no warning lamps/messages currently illuminated or displayed. Incident occurred May 30, 2024

Oil filter housing failure, this caused oil to be expelled all over the engine compartment. The oil could have hit hot exhaust and caused a fire, engine lost power due to no oil. Taken to Jeep dealer and they told me this is a common issue on this style motor. No symptoms prior to part failure.

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the driver's headrest fractured. The contact stated that when the failure occurred, the contact suffered a hard impact to the back of the head. No medical treatment was administered. The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed with failed plastic clips within the headrest. The contact was informed that the driver's headrest needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 89,000.

Unknown--I wonder if the air bag will still work like this. The cover seems to be shrinking/glue not holding. Pictures attached.

May [XXX] 2023 - Car would stop, shift in neutral going at any speed. had to pull over stop car, restart and slow start again while jeep would shift, jump and clutch. May [XXX] - Jeep was in shop to put a "bandaid" over issue. May [XXX] 2024 - Car transmission doing same issue along with a leak. Car would shift in neutral on hiway, transmission sounds like it's dropping. -----[XXX] This recap is exactly what is happening to my jeep but for some reason my VIN is not protected under this same issue but I do have the same engine. What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The passenger-side Active Headrest of my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee exploded as I was driving last week. After inspecting it myself, it appears that the plastic parts that hold the headrest together broke. This seems to be a common problem after googling the issue. It is available for inspection upon request. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? This could have caused a head injury. I am worried that if the driver's side headrest explodes while I am driving that it could cause injury or cause me to crash. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? The dealership I spoke to said that the warranty had been extended for these active headrests (So it is a known issue) but that extension is expired so I would have to pay out of pocket to have them replaced. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? This happened spontaneously with no warning.
