2015 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE Complaints

The contact owns a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while the vehicle was idling at a stop light, there was a loud popping sound coming from the engine compartment. The contact stated that while accelerating forward there was steam and smoke coming from under the hood with the engine temperature gauge indicating that the engine was hot before the vehicle lost motive power and stalled. The vehicle was later towed to the residence. The cause of the failure was not yet determined. The manufacturer was notified of the failure, but no assistance was offered. The local dealer was not yet contacted. The failure mileage was 120,000.

My 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland EcoDiesel (VIN# [XXX] ) had a catastrophic engine failure at 96k miles (400 miles from home) on a family trip Friday [XXX] leaving us stranded far from home for the second time in the last year (first time was for a turbo coolant line that failed requiring me to leave my car in California for 3+ weeks while parts were on back order). I still have an active AEM Warranty from the emissions recalls a few years back that's good until 120k miles, however previous inquiries have stated that this warranty doesn't cover the engine failure and was given a repair estimate in excess of $30k+. Premature engine failures have been a very common problem of this series of vehicle, it was involved in the AEM class-action lawsuit, and had numerous recalls that are related to the engine and engine components. Myself and the Lithia Jeep Dealership staff in Grants Pass, OR were all shocked when the warranty claim was denied for this replacement given the number of EcoDiesel failures they had seen. With the systemic premature failures of these engines, the AEM class-action lawsuit updates, extent of recalls that are related to the engine and engine components, I have been disappointed in how Chrysler/Jeep have handled this situation, leaving the burden of their design flaws on their customers. Fuel pressure pump system RECALL, the dealership refuses to put the RECALL part on due to my vehicle not running. There has been more problems with my JEEP as well with the amount of recalls and malfunctions I have been in and out of the garage. Currently is being held at Roger Williams Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram- Weatherford TX. I just want to get my recalls done first to go from there and then will get my Jeep fixed if the recall does not fix the problem. I have had it there since June and they have the part in just are refusing to put it on.

The HPFP (high pressure fuel pump) on this vehicle fails causing a fuel lapse and loss of power. I have taken it to two different dealers and they say the HPFP is on recall but not available. The vehicle was available for inspection but neither dealer performed this. When the HPFP fails the engine light comes on and the electronic throttle control light comes on. This started in September of 2023 and has repeated several times. The recall for the HPFP has been announced for quite awhile but nothing has been done about it.

WHEN STOPPING AND SUDDENLY ACCELRATING JEEP HAS A POWER DELAY AND YOU HAVE TO HIT THE THROTTLE AGRESSIVELY TO GET GOING OR ELSE I RUN THE RISK OF GETTING HIT BY ANOTHER CAR, BUT ONCE YOU HIT THROTTLE THE POWER IS MORE THAN YOU NEED IT OR EXPECTED IT, FORCING ME TO BRAKE OR ELSE I HIT THE PCAR INFRONT OF ME. I AM STILL NOT ABLE TO MAKE THIS WORK. I PURCHASED THE CAR USED, I AM STILL MAKING PAYMENTS AND I BARELY USE IT BECAUSE I FIND IT EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AT TIME. THE POWER DOESNT COME WHEN I NEED IT BUT WHEN I DO ITS TOO MUCH, FEELS LIKE I FLOORED IT AND I HAVE MANAGED NOT TO CRASH BUT ITS SOMETHING SOMEONE SHOULD TAKE A LOOK AT BEFORE ITS TOO LATE.

The contact's daughter owns a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that there was an abnormal ticking sound coming from the engine. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact notified the dealer and the manufacturer about the failure and was informed that there were no recalls or warranties on the vehicle. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 60,000.

While driving on the freeway, I heard a quiet noise but saw no warning messages on the dash. I decided to pull over and found the vehicle had shifted into neutral and lost power steering. The vehicle was towed to a AAA service center. They discovered that the safety recall W79 / NHTSA 20V-699 Diesel ECR cooler had been replaced but failed again, requiring a complete engine replacement. The recall was repaired in May 2022, and the part failed in July 2024, two months outside the warranty. The dealer where we bought the vehicle and had the recall serviced won't return my calls.

I was trying to raise my headrest to install a seatcover and the headrest deployed in my face. The vehicle was parked and not running, I was not injured, only startled. However, had I been driving this message would read differently. After searching Google I found there are known issues for this and it was suggested to report it to NHTSA. I have an appointment Monday at 9am at Toliver in Mineola, TX to have it looked at.

While driving down the road the active headrest on the passenger seat activated and came apart. It is now hanging on by the cord. The dealer we bought the Jeep off of said because it is out of warranty there is nothing they can do. No one can now ride in the passenger seat due to the headrest hanging by the wires.

The check engine and electric throttle control warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, where it was determined that the crankshaft position sensor needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V475000 (Engine and Engine Cooling); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and advised the contact to file a complaint with the NHTSA Hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 130,000.
