2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE Complaints

*NHTSA Please Help* I purchased my 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee brand new in June 2014 from a FCA authorized dealership. I have meticulously maintained, gently driven, and greatly cared for this Jeep since day one. Have only ever had the Jeep serviced at the FCA authorized dealership where I purchased. I have followed and complied with all Jeep manufacturer service recommendations since day one. At 115,000 miles, I am currently experiencing a loud ticking noise resulting from failed rocker arms and failed lifters. These failed rocker arms and lifters will result in complete and catastrophic engine failure. I am also experiencing significant engine oil leaking coming from a failed oil cooler. The Mopar oil cooler in this 3.6 Pentastar engine is made of plastic, and is highly susceptible to failure. I have talked to multiple ASE Certified Mechanics that both issues I am currently experiencing are extremely common amongst these 3.6 Liter Pentastar V6 24 Valve VVT engines. I feel very unsafe as the owner and operator of this Jeep Grand Cherokee, and have lost all confidence as it relates to the safety and reliability of this vehicle. If the vehicle cannot provide reliable and safe transportation, that completely eliminates all safety as a driver and for all passengers of this vehicle. *NHTSA* Please help the owners of the vehicles with these engines with appropriate recalls and procedures to ensure the safety of our vehicles. Fuel pump relay has failed. It is internal and soldered onto the tipm board under the fuse block. This is a well known issue and a cheap fix on 2011 - 2013 models of jeep grand cherokees. The fix was to wire in an external bypass relay. My only option at this point is to replace the tipm board which is quite expensive, hundreds of dollars, for a $8 failed relay....terrible design. Thankfully I wasnt traveling 70 mph on the expressway when the failure occurred, (stall/lose power). Please extend this recall thru the 2015 models

While stopped at a Stop sign, the passenger side headrest restraint was deployed while my wife was seated. The headrest made a loud noise and did contact her head, but she was not harmed. If this were to happen on the driver's side, especially while moving, the result could be catastrophic.

The capless gas system is cheap and coming out of the car. It leaks gas out of the bottom and every shop ignores me. I have found multiple conversations online with people having the same problem. This should be recalled. The system was redesigned three times in one year. It is poor engineering. It causes my car to throw codes over and over to no relief.it had happened multiple times over my past two years owning it.

What component: The piece of plastic trim that helps guide the seatbelt into the wall of the car has cracked and is preventing the seatbelt from retracting. Safety Risk: This prevents the seatbelt from retracting while driving the car (if it becomes loose it stays loose and therefore doesn't restrain the driver.) Inspection: The dealer said this is not covered under warranty or recall. (I called and described the problem to them.) This just started suddenly with no warning. My car has about 110,000 miles and this happened recently.

In reference to recall W79/20V-699, to date I have attempted on four (4) occasions to have the recall addressed by my dealership, Gettel Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram of Punta Gorda, Florida without success. I have even contacted corporate about the problem to no avail. Is there anything you can do to force them to follow through on the recall repair?

The Jeep will just get locked in either 1st or 5th gear. Which has almost caused me to wreck multiple times. From doing my own research I understand that is has been a problem with 2014-2015 year jeeps. I find it very disappointing that nothing has been done to recall these vehicles in order to have the issues resolved.

The electrical system in the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee on occasion will not turn on correctly when started, the car operates, just a black screen. The radio and most importantly the rear view camera will not activate. It does return after 2-10 minutes after running (meaning turns itself on) & it also turn on the heat to 75. ( this happens in my car 15% -20% of the time on starting, rest of the time it works) The main problem is the rear view camera will not turn on when you just started the car, (when you need it) The Radio, Navigation, Rear camera, climate control all don’t work. So one that is used to using camera to reverse can't and it is dangerous, it is just a black screen.

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving on the highway at various speeds, the accelerator pedal was depressed but the vehicle slowed down and lost motive power. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who was unable to duplicate the failure. The local dealer was not contacted. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown.

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact stated while driving at 35-40 MPH, the message "Low Volt" was displayed. Additionally, the contact stated that he heard an abnormal squealing sound coming from the hood and he noticed a burning rubber odor. The contact was able to drive to his nearby residence where he noticed smoke coming out from underneath the hood. The contact stated upon opening the hood, he noticed smoke and flames coming out of the alternator. The contact was able to extinguish the fire with the water hose. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic the next morning. The independent mechanic diagnosed that the alternator experienced a short circuit. The independent mechanic related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V435000 (Electrical System). The dealer was contacted and informed the contact that they could not repair the vehicle under the recall as the VIN was not included. The independent mechanic replaced the alternator and the battery. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but advised the dealer and referred the contact to the NHTSA hotline. The failure mileage was approximately 145,000.
