2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE Complaints

The front seat belts will not retract. Part seems to be broken. Jeep says not a safety issue and it will be a month till they can fix it. I asked how am I supposed to drive with a seat belt that doesn’t work/ response was- I don’t know. The vehicle has 103105 miles.

The dashboard of the vehicle has delaminated, with the leather covering bubbling and warping. The uneven surface causes significant glare at certain sun angles to be reflected into the eyes of the driver. The dealership has inspected the vehicle and noted that Jeep had briefly extended the warrenty on the component due to known issues, but refuses to honor a repair or replacement outside of that warrenty period. The vehicle was purchased in this condition so it is unclear when the damage occurred.

Bought this vehicle 6 months ago and and realized right after purchase it has an error within the radio system that causes backup issues. The error appears on the radio and states “contact dealer” for radio service. What the vehicle does is that the backup camera becomes inoperable (black screen) and in my case the radio turns on straight heat blowing hot air from the system and turning on both defrosters, front and back. After doing some research, it appears that many 2014 Jeep owners and other years around this time period are experiencing this issue. Since the backup camera and backup sensors no longer work due to this error (it has to do with the Sierra Wireless card within the radio) it becomes a safely issue when it stops in the middle of backing up and is very scary. In Texas, having straight heat blown at you and your glass makes the windows fog or becomes unbearable at 105 degree temperatures. Dealer is aware of the issue and wants more then $1200 to replace radio. I tried to self repair by removing radio and updating software to current version but Sierra wireless car is soldiered to the motherboard of the radio and cannot be removed. I did however get the software to update after three attempts and 6 hours of updating. This did not fix the error that causes this. I believe it is due to a Sierra Wireless card failure and normally happens right after startup.

There is a known issue with the seat belt frame latching unit part #1vl07dx9ag for the driver and the front passenger seats. This issue prompted Jeep to provide an extended warranty to fix faulty units. The bigger problem here is, the parts are back ordered for weeks and months. As this is a seat belt operational issue, and a major safety defect, this should be a recall and not a warranty item. I have been waiting since July 20 for the part to be installed. My front seat belts, both sides, do not tighten or retract and I risk serious injury in the event of a collision. Jeep must be held responsible to provide the parts to all dealerships as a backstock item, given that this is (in the words of my Jeep Service Center) not a matter of if but when the part fails. NHTSA should convert the warranty status to recall, similar to the recent recalls on other vehicles having seat belt issues.

The vehicle was not diagnosed nor repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 17V435000 (Electrical System) however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The failure mileage was approximately 133,000.

Computer system on dash started flashing & going out while driving telling me to turn engine off engage in park is disabled . Would let me shift gears making loud noise in engine

Car is not reporting accurate speed, 20mph or more on display and shifting my be affected

The contact owns a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 22V406000 (Fuel System, Diesel) however, the part to do the recall repair was unavailable. The contact stated that while driving approximately 35 MPH, the vehicle stalled with the check engine and various other unknown warning lights illuminated. The contact stated that she pulled over and the vehicle lost motive power. The vehicle failed to restart. The vehicle was then towed to a local dealer who diagnosed that the high-pressure fuel pump and fuel related components needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired and remained at the dealer awaiting the parts. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 88,000.

My son started the Jeep Monday morning and the engine light came on which has never happened before. Then something occurred under the hood and there was a fire. Luckily my son was able to get to a garden hose and put out the fire but now I have a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee that has fire damage and needs to be taken into a Jeep dealership for repairs. I have only had the vehicle for a little over 2 years.

On several occasions, while driving between 30 - 70 miles per hour - car goes into neutral by itself leaving you trying to steer the car to the side of the road under multiple risky situations. When pulled over - car can be put into park but if your foot is on the brake pedal the car sputters and won't shut off until brake pedal is released. You can still steer the car to the side of the road but no acceleration is possible. Restarting the car isn't possible for about 20 - 30 minutes. Most occurrence have happened on the interstate. There are no warning signs prior to the occurrences and it's extremely scary trying to get to safety. Diagnostics have been completed by Jeep dealerships and other repair shops and it's been stated all recalls have been made to this car in the past. The fact the car goes into neutral itself is scary. The most recent event puts the total of occurrences at 15 since I have owned the car. No one seems to have an explanation --all I know is its very dangerous especially on the freeway. I would like to know what can be done to get this resolved before someone get hurt.
