2014 JEEP GRAND CHEROKEE Complaints

[XXX] 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited. Sitting in the passenger side seat of the jeep stopped and went to remove the seat belt it would not retract. Attempted to pull it out a little further to get it to retract and it would not retract. Being a nurse I know how dangerous this is. I have contacted me dealer to get an apt to get it in as soon as possible to get it fixed. The passenger side seat belt will not retract this is a safety hazard. I see there have been several complaints on this model for this same safety hazard. Reporting as this is very dangerous. We noticed two large oil spots on our driveway two days before a scheduled oil service and asked our service person to inspect our vehicle during our oil change. The service manager stated that they diagnosed an oil cooler housing defect which would cost $1,030.00. My daughter drives this vehicle and, out of concern for her being stranded on the road, I specifically inquired as to whether this issue was something that could result in a catastrophic failure, to which he responded “It could very well happen.” Unsolicited, he recommended that we retain the service receipt because (in his words) “I expect to see a recall on this issue because we have seen this SO many times on this engine. In fact, the dealer often runs out of this part and we have to wait to initiate the repair.” He then informed us that we were lucky this time because he was able to get the last replacement part in stock for this issue from the dealer. I also asked that he return to me the part they removed, which he did, and I have it in my possession if you might need it for inspection. Thank you.

The pillar loop of the seatbelt cracked on the driver's seat belt. The piece that guides the seatbelt in the pillar loop cracked, and as a result it now pinches the seatbelt and prevents the seatbelt from retracting. It is pinched so tightly that I can't even manually "retract" it by pushing the seatbelt back into the door/wall, and instead my seatbelt hangs loosely in the seat around me. Since the seatbelt hangs loosely around the seat and can't even be manually retracted, I may as well not have access to a seatbelt which is a very dangerous situation. If I were to crash, the seatbelt would be completely ineffective. No event occurred to cause the crack. There were no warning signs, lights, or indications that something was wrong until one day I got in the car and it would just no longer retract. The first appearance of the issue was around January 27, 2022. It was very cold the week it happened so I am unsure if the cold temperature had anything to do with the crack, however a seat belt should not break because of cold weather. My vehicle is available for inspection upon request, and to date the issue has not been confirmed by a dealer or service center since it is very obviously an issue. Additionally, it has not been inspected yet as the quoted prices for fixing it are extremely high even though it appears to be a malfunction of the specific piece of safety equipment, as exhibited by the abundance of identical complaints specifically for my make and model (2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee).

The contact owned a 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 20V699000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) however, the part to the recall was unavailable. The contact took the vehicle to a local dealer and was confirmed that the part was not available. The contact stated on 1/26/2022 after turning on the ignition, the electronic throttle control warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to drive to her residence. The contact called the local dealer and made them aware of the failure and was not able to schedule an appointment till April/2022. The contact called another local dealer: Calavan CDJR West (1251 Thornton Rd, Lithia Springs, GA 30122:(770) 942-1102), and was able to make an appointment for 1/31/2022 to diagnose the failure and complete recall associated with the VIN. The contact stated on her way to her appointment while driving 65 mph when depressed the accelerator pedal but failed to go over 60 mph. The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact was able to park on the side of the road and called the local dealer Calavan CDJR West to seek towing service. The dealer was informed to call any towing company to have the vehicle towed. The contact stated while calling a towing company, she saw smoke exiting the front of the hood. The contact was able to exit the vehicle safely before the vehicle was engulfed in fire. The contact stated no one was injured nor sought medical attention. The fire department extinguished the fire. A fire report was filed. The contact stated two police troopers were near and were able to assist the contact. A police report was not filed. The insurance company deemed the vehicle a total loss. The vehicle was towed to towing lot. The vehicle was not diagnosed. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 85,000.

I was driving pulling a light trailer for less than 15 miles and vehicle suddenly and catastrophically overheated. Had vehicle towed to dealership and they identified the root cause as a failed oil cooler. There were no symptoms prior to this failure. Doing preliminary searches for similar issues, there is a very high rate of failures of these oil coolers in both the Jeep Grand Cherokee and RAM 1500 ecoDiesel engines.

The vehicle was taken to a local mechanic where it was diagnosed with needing the oil cooler replaced however, the vehicle was not repaired. The contact had spoken to a local dealer and was informed that the vehicle was not included in a recall. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 120,000. The oil cooler in this 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee is located at the top of the engine. When the oil cooler failed, oil leaked onto the hot engine. This situation created a fire hazard. The vehicle was repaired by a local garage.

The driver side seat belt is not retracting/faulty. It will not securely hold the driver if a collision occurs. This Jeep has blown fuel back out of the tank to saturate and shut down a gas station. The Attorney General in Vermont got involved in my case. The fuel system had to be replaced. Next the passenger side seat belt secured my passenger into the seat so tightly I had to pull the vehicle over. The seat belt would not release. The passenger side belt was replaced with a big fight over who was responsible for the bill. Now the driver side seat belt is faulty. I am disappointed after reading reviews of so many consumers having the same issue. What gives? are you going to wait to recall until someone dies in an accident?

When shifting into park, the shifter is not moving into park without pushing the shifter several times up to get it into park. Also when slowing down to come to a stop the transmission is jarring into lesser gears cause the jeep to jerk, causing whiplash and making loud sound hard to describe. It’s not doing it all the time but when it does it’s like you have been rear ended.

I took my Grand Cherokee to the mechanic for a sudden oil leak. The aluminum oil filter housing on my jeep had cracked, covering the lower half of the engine, transmission, frame, axles, brakes, and tires with oil. The mechanic said with with amount of oil covering everything, it could have caught on fire if we had warm, dry weather conditions. He said the aluminum it is made from easily cracks when we have freezing temperatures. My car didn't move for 5 very cold days, and on Sunday, while I'm taking my child to the hospital, we have this blowout. $926 later, I'm not spraying oil everywhere.

I was in a collision that impacted mostly the driver side of the vehicle and the front air bag did not deploy, only the side curtains.
