2023 KEYSTONE MONTANA- Litchfield, NH
After only about 2000 miles of driving, it was discovered that a main cross member had broken loose from the frame rails. These cross members help maintain the structural integrity of the trailer. Had this problem gone unchecked, it could have resulted in the trailer falling apart on the road. A certified welder has reinforced the connection and pictures have been sent to the manufacturer.

In the 2 years we have owned our trailer, we have had two roadside emergencies. The first is that the two rear wheels experienced very early wear in the first year of traveling resulting in a blowout on the freeway. A tire shop manager did inform me that the quality of the tires was low. The second was also wheel related. The front passenger side wheel sheared of the wheel posts and fortunately, no other vehicles were involved when it left the trailer. This was also on the freeway. I have found that Keystone has recalled another model of their trailers due to the axles not being rated to the size and weight of the coach. It seems that there is a very narrow margin in how this trailer has been set up and I feel that has contributed to the two incidents described above. The only inspection other by than the tire shop was performed by roadside assistance personnel. Their professional opinion also point to the axels being underrated for the trailer.

On 7/29/2020 I purchased 6 Hartland (ST235 /85 R16 ST Radial all steel) trailer tires. On 7/25/2022 I had to replace the one located on the left third axle because the center to the inside of the tread was worn off/gone. Mileage approximately 7,000. On 9/29/2022, I had replace the other two on the left side, 1st and 2nd axles, the first axle the entire center tread was gone and on the 2nd axle the steel belt wires were coming out through the rubber. Mileage approximately 10,000 Discount Tire Dealer called Hartland and Hartland said there was no recall and could not explain why their tires failed. Discount did notice that Heartland no longer sells that particular type and has replaced it with a different tread which Discount said was a little unusual. I replaced all of the tires, I think to loose 3 within 10,000 miles, all from the same batch is not a coincidence. I also had all axles checked and they were all aligned to specs.

As part of my routine pre-trip inspection I found both trailer king st225/75r15 tires on the passenger side of the camper had bulged in the tread area giving them a larger diameter than the tires on the driver's side. Tires had TPMS and were always monitored and inspected prior to each trip. Required inflation pressure was 80 psig. No curbs were ever run over. Tires were covered in off season. No other signs of external damage.

This is the second trailer I've experienced a problem with Trailer King tires. The first time was on a 2018 Keystone Outback Ultra Lite trailer, when I discovered 3 of the tires had rounded tread rather than riding flat on the road. This problem occurred while in Arizona on a trip. Took it in to the nearest tire shop (Discount Tires), who confirmed that the tread ha separated, and replaced all four tires. I no longer have my receipt for this installation, and don't know the exact tire size, but it was on 2/21/2021 and the cost was $621.71. The latest time the tires were Trailer King RST (ST235 80/R16) : When preparing for a trip on Friday Sep 16, 2022, checked tire pressure and noticed curb side front axle tire about 5 psi low, which was unusual because all four were exactly the same every other time I checked pressure before each trip. So I added air to the tire, then notice that the tire tread was rounded just like the 2021 occasion. I drove the trailer to Discount Tires in Waxahachie, Texas who confirmed the tread separation and replaced with four Goodyear Endurance ST235 / 80R16 tires installed. Cost $945.34.
