I am writing to formally express my concern regarding the paint on my 2017 Kia, which has begun peeling and coming off prematurely. I have raised this issue multiple times with my local Kia dealership and inquired about possible warranty coverage or repair options, as paint deterioration of this nature should not be occurring. I have also become aware of numerous similar complaints from other Kia owners experiencing the same issue with white paint, which suggests this may be a broader quality concern. Unfortunately, despite repeated discussions, the dealership has consistently dismissed my concerns and advised that the paint warranty has expired, without offering any alternative solutions or escalation options. I specifically asked the dealership whether they could contact Kia directly to request an exception or goodwill repair due to the nature of the issue, but I was told this would not be done. I am reaching out to you directly in hopes that this matter can be reviewed at a higher level. I would appreciate the opportunity to evaluate this concern and advise whether assistance, repair, or an exception can be made. My intention is to resolve this matter amicably, and I wanted to bring it to your attention before pursuing a formal complaint. Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to your response. Sincerely, [XXX] Sent from my iPhone INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  • 2022 KIA TELLURIDE
    - Little Elm, TX

I am reporting a safety issue with my vehicle’s electronic door locking system. Vehicle: 2022 Kia Telluride SX Prestige with Nightfall Edition Issue: The door locks randomly unlock on their own multiple times without any input. This behavior happens specifically when the child safety lock is enabled. While driving or after locking the vehicle, the locks will unexpectedly unlock, creating a serious safety and security concern. Safety Concern: This issue poses a risk to passengers, especially children, because doors may unlock unexpectedly while the vehicle is in motion. It also creates a security risk when the vehicle is parked, as the car cannot be reliably kept locked. Additional Notes: I have seen multiple similar complaints from other Telluride owners reporting the same behavior. This appears to be a recurring defect rather than an isolated incident. I am requesting that this issue be investigated for a potential defect and safety recall.

My backup camera works intermittently, it has been tested at the dealership and supposed to be faulty, but if faulty why does it sometimes work, this causes danger when reversing the vehicle! The dealership wants $821 to replace the camera, I feel it should be a recall, as a whole bunch of Ford vehicles are recalled for the same issue! I have had several close calls even using my mirrors and looking over my shoulder, as the car has big blind spots!

  • 2013 KIA OPTIMA
    - Houston, TX

The contact owns a 2013 Kia Optima. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle failed to accelerate as intended while depressing the accelerator pedal and stalled. The contact was able to coast to the side of the road. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic. The contact was informed that the engine had seized and to tow the vehicle to the dealer for assistance. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer, where it was confirmed that the engine had failed. The contact was informed that since the vehicle had a branded title, it could not be repaired. The vehicle remained at the dealer unrepaired. The contact stated that back in October 2024, the vehicle had been in a hit-and-run accident. The insurance company had declared the vehicle a total loss. The contact kept the vehicle and registered it with the rebuilt title. The contact stated that the engine on the vehicle was the original engine. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact stated that Kia Customer Care called and advised the contact that the manufacturer declined the request for the repairs. The failure mileage was approximately 136,000.

  • 2012 KIA SOUL
    - Portland, OR

I am submitting this complaint regarding a known defect with the steering wheel coupler in my 2012 Kia vehicle. The steering coupler is a component that has been subject to recall concerns due to premature wear. When this part becomes worn, it can result in looseness or failure in the steering system, creating a serious safety risk for the driver and others on the road. Despite this being a known and widely reported defect, Kia has not adequately addressed the issue for all affected vehicles. Instead, owners are being charged significant out-of-pocket costs to replace a part that is defective by design and poses a safety hazard. I believe Kia should be required to fully acknowledge this defect and provide repairs or replacement of the steering coupler at no cost to consumers. Charging customers to correct a known safety-related defect is inappropriate and places an unfair financial burden on vehicle owners while leaving a critical safety issue unresolved.

  • 2019 KIA OPTIMA
    - Gary, IN

I purchased this vehicle on [XXX], with approximately 170,150 miles. On [XXX], during a routine oil change at approximately 172,636 miles, it was discovered that the engine had no oil present. Shortly afterward, the oil warning light began flickering intermittently while driving. On November 4, 2025, at approximately 175,495 miles, a certified mechanic again confirmed that there was no oil present in the engine. At no point were there visible external oil leaks, indicating excessive internal oil consumption. This condition creates a serious safety risk, as sudden engine failure while driving could lead to loss of power, stalling, or accidents. Based on my experience and publicly known issues involving Kia engines, this appears to be a systemic defect rather than normal wear. I am requesting that NHTSA document and review this issue as a potential safety defect. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

  • 2021 KIA SOUL
    - Camarillo , CA

On 01/12/2026, I had my 2021 Kia Soul (VIN: [XXX] ) inspected by a technician at J&K Automotive after discovering a significant drop in oil. The technician found the engine oil dipstick completely dry. A review of service records shows the last oil change was on 09/18/2025 (Odometer: 20,862), meaning the engine consumed nearly its entire oil capacity in just 3,699 miles. The technician confirmed there are no external leaks and no dashboard warning lights (oil pressure or check engine) were illuminated prior to or during the inspection. This lack of warning creates a severe safety risk of sudden engine seizure and stalling at highway speeds. The billing summary noted that the Kia Soul with my engine had a potentially defective piton ring design. This failure is consistent with Recall 25V-099 (SC336) regarding defective piston oil rings causing cylinder bore scuffing. I am reporting this to document that the Piston-ring Noise Sensing System (PNSS) failed to provide an early warning of this safety-related oil consumption. • 2015 KIA SOUL
    - Simpsonville, SC

The engine warning light illuminated and the vehicle began to hesitate and lose power while driving, making the vehicle unsafe to operate. The problem involves the engine and powertrain. A Kia dealer inspected the vehicle and found a timing-related engine fault code (P0014). The dealer stated the condition is consistent with the Kia engine bearing failure recall and referenced recall SC200PS, but said this VIN was not included. The vehicle has reduced power and cannot be safely driven. This creates a safety risk because the engine can lose power without warning while the vehicle is in motion. Warning lights were present before and during the failure. The vehicle has not been repaired and is available for inspection.
