2023 KIA K5- Freedom, IN
While driving my car i heard a loud pop come from the rear of the car. Vehicle began driving poorly as if it could not get proper fuel. I took car to dealership on October 3, 2025 where fuel system was tested and failed all 3 stages of recall for fuel system. Fuel tank had expanded straps and clips had broken and was deemed unsafe to drive. Kia placed the vehicle on hold.at the dealership with a do not repair until further notice. As of today October 27, 2025 the car has still not been repaired and is still on hold at the dealership. Kia has not determined if it is safe to repair the vehicle and return to owner (myself). I however do not feel safe to drive this car as I am lucky to be alive and that it didnt explode when the fuel tank expanded. Hopefully my case can help save someone else from being placed in danger with this issue.

2024 KIA EV9- McDonough, GA
Description of the Problem: While driving my 2024 Kia EV9, the vehicle suddenly jerked and displayed a “Motor Control System” warning on the dashboard. The Kia Access app showed diagnostic code P0A4100 (MCU_R – Motor Control Unit fault). The issue causes the vehicle to hesitate and feel as if it loses power momentarily while in motion, creating a serious safety risk for me and my children. System/Component: The failure involves the Motor Control Unit (MCU) / electrical drivetrain system. The vehicle is available for inspection upon request. Safety Risk: The vehicle’s jerking and power fluctuation make it unsafe to drive in traffic, especially with children on board. It gives the sensation of being rear-ended and raises concern of potential stalling or loss of propulsion. Reproduction and Dealer Confirmation: The problem was reported to Sons Kia in McDonough, GA. The dealership initially inspected the vehicle on October 24, 2025, and returned it on [XXX], claiming the issue was addressed. However, the same warning and behavior reappeared less than 24 hours later ([XXX]). Inspections: The vehicle has been inspected by the Kia dealership service department. No outside parties (police or insurance) have inspected it yet. Warnings/Symptoms: The first warning appeared on [XXX], with the “Motor Control System” dashboard message and a corresponding alert in the Kia Access app. The issue continues to recur despite service. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

I am submitting this report regarding an ongoing issue with my Kia vehicle related to the recall for code P1326 (Knock Sensor Detection System / Engine Bearing Wear). The first time this issue occurred, Kia documented the problem and kept my vehicle overnight to perform what they referred to as an “engine soak.” I was informed that this procedure might resolve the engine performance and oil consumption problems. I was also advised that if the issue reoccurred within 15 years of vehicle ownership or before reaching 150,000 miles, Kia would replace the engine under the recall warranty. Recently, the same issue has reappeared, but Kia is now refusing to replace the engine, citing “gaps in maintenance” from the early years of my ownership. I explained that, at that time, my father performed all oil changes and maintenance at home to reduce costs, as I was a young driver living with my parents. Kia is requesting proof of oil or tool purchases from over ten years ago, which I no longer possess. Additionally, all vehicle-related documentation was left inside the car when it was stolen and broken into twice—incidents connected to the nationwide Kia theft issue that has been subject to another class-action lawsuit. As a result, I no longer have access to those records. During my initial visit, the Kia service representative, Jake, assured me that if the engine failed again and I maintained the vehicle properly, I would be covered for a full engine replacement. I have made every effort to comply with those terms, yet Kia corporate has denied my claim. I am requesting NHTSA’s assistance in resolving this matter and ensuring that Kia honors its recall obligations and prior representations made to me as a consumer.

2025 KIA EV6- San Francisco, CA
Issue Description: When parking facing downhill, I put the car in reverse but the car rolls forward. Feels like the car is either in drive or neutral. Concern is intermittent, and I confirmed each time it happens, gear selector is in reverse. When trying to re-engage reverse, the display shows "gear already selected." Safety risk: Car almost hit car in front of us while trying to reverse. Car was inspected by dealer service center. Could not duplicate, but found an error code. Dealership found multiple software updates available on the brand new car and installed.

2025 KIA SPORTAGE HYBRID- Crofton, MD
While driving home today, Sunday, October 6, 2025 in my BRAND NEW Kia Sportage with 1,325 miles on it, I stopped in traffic and my car refused to move forward. Suddenly, multiple alerts popped up on the screen: Ultrasonic sensor error or blockage, check blind spot safety, ABS, and eventually: U010100, U100387 and C161287. My car eventually lost complete power, I was unable to start it, and when started, it would not shut off. I had to call the police and have a tow truck sent out to tow the car home. Yesterday, while backing up, my car also stopped suddenly with a warning that there was something behind my car, when there was nothing. This had happened once, but I thought maybe I was too close to another car and didn't realize it. This is the second time that I've had MAJOR issues with a Kia. Recently, I had to sell my 2025 Kia Niro back to the dealer because I received several warnings including: P090B78. The Niro would not accelerate, often jerked forward, and veered to the left. After almost a year of complaints, they finally agreed to buy the car back and I leased the Kia Sportage. The Niro needed a huge amount of work, though they wouldn't tell me what was replaced ultimately. Thankfully no one was hurt and I was able to get the car towed, but the fact that this has happened with two brand new cars from Kia is incredibly concerning.

2021 KIA SOUL- Killeen, TX
Vehicle Information: Make/Model/Year: 2021 Kia Soul VIN: [XXX] Odometer: [96,000] Dealerships: Kia of Killeen, TX /Kia of Round Rock, TX & Component/System Failure: Engine failure due to defective piston oil rings, causing low compression and stalling. Components are available for inspection at both dealerships. Safety Risk: Sudden engine failure and stalling created a serious risk to my family, including children ages 6 and 9. The defect could cause loss of vehicle control or fire, potentially fatal. Dealer Confirmation: Kia of Round Rock confirmed low compression (Cylinder 3 at 102 PSI). Kia of Killeen falsely stated the recall was completed; while the car was in their care, it would not crank. Inspections: Vehicle inspected by Kia dealerships. No police or insurance inspections. Kia Consumer Affairs contacted for escalation. Warning Signs: A brief dashboard warning light appeared (not engine light) before failure and disappeared quickly. Vehicle experienced stalling while attempting recall repair in February/March. Problem Description: Failure is consistent with Recall 25V099 (SC336) for faulty piston oil rings. Kia of Round Rock confirmed low compression, but the service advisor stated it was “unrelated to the recall” and quoted a $7,476.32 engine rebuild. Supporting Documentation: Dealership diagnostic reports and repair estimates ( From RoundRock) (Killeen:Pending) Recall notice (25V099 / SC336) Written communication with Kia dealerships and Consumer Affairs Additional Notes: I contacted Kia Consumer Affairs to open a case and request escalation. Filing this complaint to inform NHTSA that vehicles like mine are being denied coverage for a defect directly related to the recall. 2021 KIA SOUL- Killeen, TX
Description of Problem: My 2021 Kia Soul experienced complete engine failure consistent with the defect described in Recall 25V099 (SC336), which addresses faulty piston oil rings that can cause engine damage, stalling, and potential fire risk. Kia of Round Rock performed a compression test and found Cylinder 3 at 102 PSI, well below the normal minimum of 160 PSI. Despite this, the service advisor stated in writing that the failure was “unrelated to the recall” and quoted an engine rebuild cost of $7,476.32. The recall specifically identifies incorrectly manufactured piston oil rings as a cause of engine damage. Low compression from defective piston rings directly aligns with this recall’s description and the findings in my vehicle. Additional Detail: Prior to the failure, a warning light briefly appeared on the dashboard but did not remain illuminated. It was not the engine light, and it disappeared shortly after. This suggests the defect was developing internally without a consistent diagnostic warning, making it unpredictable and dangerous. Safety Concern: This is a serious safety hazard for my family, including our two children (ages 6 and 9). A sudden engine failure or stall could cause a dangerous accident or even be fatal. We trusted Kia to provide a safe vehicle and to honor its recall obligations. The refusal to address this under the recall leaves us driving an unsafe car that could fail at any time. Supporting Documentation: Dealership diagnostic report showing compression test results and repair estimate. Recall notice (25V099 / SC336) identifying the piston oil ring defect. Written communication with Kia of Round Rock and Kia Consumer Affairs. Additional Notes: I contacted Kia Consumer Affairs to open a case and request escalation. I am filing this complaint to inform NHTSA that vehicles like mine are being denied coverage for a failure directly related to the recall.

2012 KIA SOUL- Bedford, IN
I have self diagnosed the problem thus far. The issue is with a severe hesitation in the steering wheel..it started 3 days ago and is getting worse. I feel as though I will lose complete control of my vehicle at any time. I am scared to death to drive my car. I will contact my dealership in the morning for a professional diagnosis. Praying this is covered by extended warranty as I have no money for an expensive repair. My dealership is 25 miles away and I'm terrified to drive it that far..if the steering fails, it will be a complete catastrophe.
