I purchased a 2015 Kia Optima 2.4L GDI (VIN: [XXX] ) with a blown engine, which is covered under Kia’s extended engine warranty. I contacted Jim Butler Kia in Chesterfield, MO, where the last service was performed, and requested the free engine replacement under warranty. They acknowledged that the car is covered, but refused to perform the repair because the vehicle is not yet registered. I explained that I have the title in my name and proof of ownership, but cannot register the car in Missouri because it does not run and must pass safety and emissions inspection to be registered. Despite showing them the title and explaining the situation, they continue to deny warranty service. I believe this is unfair and against Kia’s warranty policy, which requires proof of ownership—not necessarily registration. I’m requesting the dealership to honor the warranty and perform the repair, as the issue is known and covered by Kia’s engine recall campaign. I am not seeking financial compensation—just proper and fair warranty service for a defect Kia already acknowledges INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

Gas door outside cover would not open which makes it impossible to pump gas. Dealership removed door to enable the ability to pump gas. This then disables the safety feature that keeps the van door from sliding open which a rear passenger may mistakenly open the door and the gas pump hose would be knocked off. if Dealership opens the door to the gas area, and leaves the door to the gas cover ajar slightly to enable the ability to pump gas, this causes an issue if the door is mistakenly opened by a rear passenger, there is no clearance and the door to the gas area would be ripped off. The trunk continues to rattle after multiple trips to the dealership, it has been verified to not be the license plate or any loose components by the dealership. The noise sounds like the trunk latch striking repeatedly during regular driving. The sister model Hyundai Ioniq-5 has had numerous TSBs to fix this issue while Kia EV6 has had none published. And example of the TSB listed is [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The rear brake rotors on the vehicle are pitted, as confirmed by a local repair shop. The "incident" is ongoing. Kia refuses to repair or replace them under warranty (25,500 miles on the car), claiming they are wear item. However, pitting is not wear, in fact quite the opposite. My analysis (30+ yrs in the auto business): As an EV, regenerative braking means the actual brake systems are rarely used. Noise at low speeds prompted the inspection at a local shop. Braking under high speeds does not result in noise, telling me the system relies too heavily on the front brakes. The result is the rear rotors are too often unused leaving them to rust and then pit. Tesla recognizes that regen braking can actually harm brake rotors, suggesting burnishing the brakes at times using the following procedure: 1) Drive the vehicle at approximately 50 mph - 55 mph (80 km/h - 90 km/h) on a straight road. 2) Apply moderate, consistent pressure to the brake pedal to slowly decelerate the vehicle, releasing at 10 mph (15 km/h). 3) Repeat this procedure 6 times, waiting at least 30 seconds between applications. Since the rear brakes do not appear to engage on the Kia Niro, this method is fruitless. Other Niro drivers report this as seen here: [XXX] I my opinion, the vehicles should at minimum be repaired under warranty or recalled to "rebalance" the brake system. Thank you... MDPS failing when driving randomly. Steering locks up and vehicle is uncontrollable, while the vehicle is moving. This has occurred at varying speeds, while turning and while driving straight. Dealer has unsuccessfully got the issue to replicate, but independent service center was able to replicate it and found the extended warranty and recommended dealership visit since issue is covered. Vehicle has been inspected by dealership and the first recommended battery replacement, but this did not remedy the issue. EPS warning light is illuminated while issue is occurring but due to safety, car needs to be restarted to gain control of the vehicle and light turns off.

The contact owns a 2021 Kia Soul. The contact stated while driving 50 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently lost motive power.
