  • 2013 KIA SOUL
    - Menomonie, WI

On [XXX], we were driving on [XXX] from Wisconsin into Minnesota to park at MSP airport. Near the state border, we began to hear a clunk sound in the steering column. We chose to park the car at a friend's home near the airport in her garage in case we needed service upon our return from Texas where we travelling to. Prior to driving back to our home from Minneapolis on [XXX] (1.5 hours), we checked with our local mechanic to see if it were safe to drive. He could not diagnose over phone, but suggested coupling issue and that we drive carefully. We made it back home, took car to our local mechanic on 7 October, and thought it would be better to check dealership in Eau Claire, WI (another 30 minute drive). We drove there, slowly, on 18 October, and were told that it was probably the MDPS/Flexible Coupling, but that it would cost us 175 to check, and another 250-300 to replace the 15.00 part. We drove home and had a family emergency out of state and will return now to Wisconsin soon and want to get this fixed as soon as possible. We understand NOW that this is a persistent problem for MANY KIA 2013 Soul and other KIAs and that NHTSA has been supportive to some owners over this matter. We do not object to paying for the repair, but not at price-gouging levels. From what we understand, the inspection needed to check for the flex coupling is not difficult nor time consuming. We are afraid to drive the car for safety sake, but we need the car to drive! Do we have any rights to a free inspection if this is a problem with many KIAs? There were no warning lights and no symptoms prior to the sudden noise and now there is a persistent and regular clunk when the steering wheel is moved. Thank you for any information regarding this issue. Again, no accident and no injuries or results from clunk, but KIA history seems to suggest a potential recall need. - Sherman Oaks , CA

The oil in the engine constantly sludges even with regular maintenance with full synthetic oil, I went over a pot hole and two of the rear lights went out and won’t go back on even after replacing bulbs and wiring harness, and the worst of all is the suspension, the lower control arm and the trailing arm both have gone out after only 20k miles of light mostly highway driving, this car offers nothing but problems it’s no surprise that they discontinued the model it’s an absolute nightmare. I bought it brand new and it feels like I’m going to die in it, every speed bump or pot hole I go over feels and sounds like I’m hitting a wall, I’ve replaced the ball joints and am thinking about replacing the control arms because I’m worried they are going to break. I completely understand that living in San Fernando valley there are worse road conditions than usual but I’ve never had a car fall apart like this from driving out here. What’s worse is even after having to have parts replaced with OEM parts IMMEDIATELY the replacement parts are beginning to wear out, I can’t go over speed bumps that are higher than a few inches without scraping the bottom of the car because the car is riding low, I suspect the coils and struts are also already going out also, just the most terribly engineered vehicle, I don’t know if it’s due to something that should be recalled but it absolutely feels like it is to me and I know many other people are suffering through the same issues with their fortes.

  • 2023 KIA EV6
    - Belle Mead, NJ

The EV-6 GT auto experienced a loud clunking grinding noise while steering 180 degrees when turning right and then left. The car skidded on the pavement this happened over a period of 3 months when the temperature was below freezing. After 2 service appointments Bridgewater NJ KIA dealership failed to diagnose the problem . On the 3rd visit they confirmed that the noise emanated from the summer performance tires that caused the tires to skid and caused the noise. Their solution was that storm tires would need to be replace the existing “summer tires”The existing tires are Good Year 255/40R 21. Not only that Good Year does not make snow tires of this size but when I first leased the car I was not told that the car would need snow tires to prevent skidding from snow or icy road conditions. There failure to notify car owners in the northeast of this hazard puts drivers at risk and potential for accidents in cold weather temperatures. Since I have not driven the leased car in below freezing temperatures and risk safety and hazards from driving on these summer tires I believe KIA should be held responsible for failure to notify drivers of this condition. I plan to terminate early the 3 year lease and also withhold payment until KIA acknowledges that they failed to identify this safety hazards and then did not offer to replace these tires to prevent future accidents. These “summer tires” were also Not clearly defined as racing tires with inability to provide adequate tread on icy and snowy road conditions. I am submitting this claim to prevent potential car accidents in driving the car in the northeast were weather conditions are periodic snow and icy conditions.

Well, at first I got the 12 V battery fixed because it wasn’t throwing the code because my 12 V battery wasn’t holding power and then I did get the code and it turned my vehicle into turtle mode where it would not move. This could’ve been very unsafe in the car. I have brought it in now and it has been 20+ days and I have not had resolution and I have not received the part to fix my car. I have been left as a single mother without another vehicle to use the dealership offered me a vehicle and I was driving that, but it has issues with the Wheel bearing and rotors which at first they told me I would be held liable for driving and then they told me to continue driving it since then now I am renting a vehicle which I cannot afford as I said I am a single mother and I can’t afford $300 a week and then we wait to be reimbursed by Kia they have done nothing to help me and my situation and I am concerned. I have had this car for less than two years. I have less than 24,000 miles on it and by Iowa lemon law it should be resolution into it getting fixed so I am making a formal complaint.

  • 2015 KIA SEDONA
    - Shamong, NJ

A few months ago we became aware that our Sedona was burning through coolant and oil very quickly. We began to monitor closely and were adding coolant and oil frequently. We did not see any oil leaking on the engine or driveway. We brought the car into the Cherry Hill Kia service center to get checked. We were aware of a recall involving coolant and oil and thought this could be related. I told the mechanic we were checking the coolant and oil every week because it would run low and the check engine light would come on. We would add both oil and coolant and the check engine light would go out soon after. The Kia mechanic told us we needed new radiator hoses and an alternator. I pressed the mechanic because I did not understand how that would affect the oil consumption. We paid for the diagnostic and oil change and took our car to another mechanic and they replaced the entire radiator and alternator. This was in October, 24. In January of 25 we were driving on a 45 mph road with no shoulder when the lights on the dashboard lit up and we began to lose power. The vehicle stopped and we could not even get the hazard lights to function. My children were in the car. The police had to be called to stop traffic so we could safely push the car off the road until it could be towed. The vehicle is currently at Burlington Kia and we have been informed we need a whole new engine. We have always been diligent about maintaining our cars. I have no doubt that this is the result of poor engineering and design and puts families like ours in danger. Please help us and by holding Kia accountable.

The steering seems to stick, hard to explain but when you are driving on the highway feels like the steering wheel is going to stop working.

We had a snow the last couple of days and when it mostly cleared up we went out to the grocery store. We had done on best to clear of the car of snow. While driving the windshield wipers were working fine until a small chuck of snow came down from the roof of the car. The wipers immediate started to glitch and not move which caused a big visibility problem. I was able to pull over and clear it but was concerned that small amounts of snow would cause the wipers to completely stop.

  • 2016 KIA SEDONA
    - West Milford, NJ

Our 2016 Kia Sedona was recently diagnosed with engine failure. Here's a summary: 1. The car's engine issues have twice put my family in danger: (1) on [XXX] with my [XXX] wife and 5 children when the car went into limp mode and could not accelerate on a steep road by a major forest in NJ (could have rolled back down a hill and crashed into other cars), and (2) on [XXX] with my [XXX] wife and 2 children when it again encountered an inability to accelerate. In situation (1) we towed it to our local Kia dealership and were told the issue was repaired (worn out spark plugs and low oil), but we had the same issue again 3 months later in December. In situation (2) my wife brought it to that same dealership. After multiple incorrect diagnoses - low oil and dead battery - they finally said we need a new engine. I spoke to Customer Care and, in spite of countless calls and follow-ups, did not receive a timely response and was eventually told that I would have to pay for this out of pocket. 2. We towed our car - at our expense - on 1/29/25 to another dealership in the hopes of better service. They came to the same conclusion: the engine has failed and we need a new one. Still, we have not received adequate answers on why the engine has failed and an appropriate solution to allow us to get our car back, which leads to the final point: 3. We've taken stellar care of this car since we bought it new. For 9 years, we have taken our van ONLY and exclusively to authorized Kia dealerships for service, for all needs great and small. We've spent $7,256 on service at these dealerships, taking all recommendations from service advisors to ensure our car is well-maintained. The car's issues have been misdiagnosed and put the lives of my [XXX]wife and several children in danger. Even after dealing with these dealerships and sending a letter to Kia Consumer Affairs, there has been no proper solution. Please assist us in remedying this matter promptly. None of the above. The paint is continuously chipping on the hood and top of the car. When I’m driving, sometimes I see others with the same car as me and their paint is also chipping really bad. It’s only on the Kia Sorento from what I can tell. It makes the car look horrible and it’s very expensive to repaint a car. There has to be some kind of warranty they need to issue. I have a 2017 Kia Sorento. It started maybe a year or so ago, and it’s getting continuously worse at a very fast pace. It looks horrible. You can already see where the next chunks want to come off. Even when washing the car the paint comes off. When you pay $30,000 for a car, the last thing you want is for all the paint to come off and there is nothing you can do about it. THIS IS NOT NORMAL!
