2017 LAND ROVER RANGE ROVER Complaints

I am the owner of a 2017 Range Rover Evoque (VIN: [XXX] ) purchased from Star Auto Works in March 2025 with approximately 56,000 miles. Within months of purchase, the vehicle suffered a catastrophic turbocharger failure, a critical powertrain component that renders the vehicle unreliable and potentially unsafe to operate. A turbocharger is engineered to last significantly longer than the mileage at failure. This type of premature breakdown strongly indicates a manufacturing defect rather than normal wear. As such, the circumstances raise substantial concerns regarding: Breach of the Implied Warranty of Merchantability — The vehicle was not reasonably fit for its ordinary purpose at the time of sale. Breach of Manufacturer Warranty Obligations — A failure of this magnitude warrants immediate manufacturer participation. Sale of a Vehicle Containing a Likely Pre-Existing Defect — The timing of the failure supports the conclusion that the condition existed prior to my purchase. I have made good-faith efforts to resolve this matter cooperatively. However, the financial burden of a major engine repair resulting from a premature failure is not one I am willing to absorb. My Range Rover diesel is continuing to have premature Diesel Particulate Filter (DPF) clogging, causing dashboard warnings, "limp mode," reduced power, and engine issues. This causes the car to immediatly without warning reduce power and you have a certain amount of miles before the car shuts down. Range Rover knows of this incident, and there is a law suit concerning this, and unfortunately this problem did not occur to my car until after the lawsuit deadline went into effect. This has happened several times with the only solution to order an 11,000 new system which has the same defect as the original one in the car.

Recall 25V-514, they don't have a "remedy" and my vehicle started to show signs of crack appearing on steering knuckles. Local dealer won't do anything about it and because of this I am afraid of driving my vehicle. This is the vehicle I use to carry my kids, and it is the only vehicle I have. I have had to rent out of pocket a car just to take kids to school and back home.

The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 25V514000 (Steering); however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the vehicle failed the State Inspection due to the open recall. The dealer was contacted but no assistance was provided. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure.

The contact owns a 2017 Land Rover Range Rover. The contact stated that while driving on several occasions at various speeds or while the vehicle was idling, there was an abnormal coolant odor inside and outside the vehicle. There was condensation underneath the front of the vehicle. There was no warning light illuminated, or a message displayed. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic; however, the contact was informed that the mechanic would be unable to provide a proper diagnostic result without taking the engine apart. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 67,000.

JLR issued a recall on August 8, 2025, for the front suspension upper knuckle joint, and there are still no parts available to fix the issue. JLR states the issue "may lead to detachment of the upper suspension arm" and "may compromise the vehicle’s controllability and increase the risk of a crash." I have regularly been in touch with my local JLR dealership, and they shrug their shoulders and say "oh well." My vehicle is readily available for inspection, but the dealer is not interested in seeing it until parts are available. How many months must I be driving with a potentially catastrophic failure pending?

My vehicle was recently in for service and upon inspection the technician observed a rusted fuel tank shield. The reason this problem occurs is because of a process called galvanic corrosion. The fuel tank shield is bolted onto an aluminum heat shield, and the pairing of these two different metals accelerates the corrosion. While there is no specific national NHTSA recall for the 2017 Range Rover fuel tank shield rusting out, it is a known issue caused by insufficient protective coating, often leading to severe corrosion where the steel shield meets the aluminum chassis. The issue is commonly discussed as a design flaw, potentially causing the shield holding the fuel tank to fail. Upon researching this issue, Land Rover has acknowledged this problem and has given priority due to the fact that this is a safety issue being that these shields are also responsible for holding the tanks in place. Furthermore, Land Rover will grant me a credit for the repair but the only way I can qualify is if I personally report it to the federal government then a customer experience specialist from Land Rover reaches out to me and offers me a credit.

GAS TANK SHIELD HAS ROTTED DUE TO GALVANIC CORROSION AS THE FUEL TANK SHIELD IS BOLTED ONTO AN ALUMINUM HEAT SHIELD. THE PAIRING OF THESE TWO DIFFERENT METALS HAS CAUSED THE SHIELD TO BECOME UNSTABLE AND IS PART OF HOLDING THE GAS TANK ITSELF IN PLACE. EXTREMELY UNSAFE.

I own a 2018 Land Rover Range Rover where the airbag warning light remains illuminated at all times on the dashboard, even when the front passenger seat is empty and no cargo is present on the seat. The warning light for airbag indicatesthat the air bag is not activated and will not work in a collision. The passenger air bag has been inoperable for over 2 years.This issue has persisted for several years, with documented dealer service records dating back to before my warranty expired. The dealer (Land Rover of Palm Beach) diagnosed it as resulting from the front passenger seat movement causing detachment or strain on the wiring harness/connector for the occupant classification system (OCS), which detects passenger presence and controls airbag deployment. The Passenger seat air bag sensor or wiring harness is defective and needs replacement for the passenger side air bag to function. They said that all 2018 Range Rover air bag harnesses are too short and are prone to being detached by seat movements / adjustments. They have repeatedly reset the light and reconnected the harness, but the warning recurs shortly after, indicating an unresolved design or manufacturing defect in the under-seat wiring that is prone to failure from normal seat adjustments. This prevents reliable operation of the passenger frontal airbag, posing a serious safety risk as it may fail to deploy (or deploy improperly) in a crash, endangering occupants. The dealer refuses to install a new larger harness or provide a permanent fix, despite this being a known recurring problem reported by other owners of similar L405 Range Rover models. They say that Land Rover corporate is not providing a newer replacement harness and is not paying for the repairs despite this being a serious safety issue. I request NHTSA investigation into this potential widespread defect to determine if a recall or safety action is warranted. This may be the same problem as reported in NHTSA Campaign # 11500093 & 11693335.
