  • 2025 MAZDA CX-30

    I am writing regarding my 2025 Mazda CX-30, purchased brand new with 0 miles on [XXX]. The vehicle currently has 22,000 miles. I am extremely concerned about the reliability and, most importantly, the SAFETY of this vehicle. August 29, 2025: I brought the vehicle to the dealership after receiving a recall notice. My service slip states only “performed Software update,” with no details regarding the recall. Refers something about the engine being left on over 2 hours will loose power. Mileage was 9,650. [XXX]: The check engine light came on. I was told the vehicle was leaking oil and that it was not a major concern per a 20+year old technician. The dealership replaced the REP Tensioner Belt. [XXX]: While driving on [XXX] on my way to [XXX], my vehicle SUDDENLY LOST POWER AND DIED WHILE I WAS DRIVING. This was an EXTREMELY SERIOUS AND POTENTIALLY LIFE-THREATENING SAFETY INCIDENT. Thankfully, I had not yet entered [XXX] and was not hit by another vehicle. Had my vehicle suddenly died after entering [XXX], I truly believe the outcome could have been catastrophic or fatal. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE DRIVING THIS VEHICLE! I cannot trust a vehicle that unexpectedly loses power and dies while being operated. This incident has completely destroyed my confidence in the safety and reliability of my Mazda. I am formally requesting that Mazda immediately open and begin the Florida Lemon Law/warranty process, thoroughly investigate the cause of this dangerous loss of power, and provide me with a written explanation of what caused the vehicle to die and whether it is safe to operate. Please treat this as an URGENT SAFETY CONCERN and provide an immediate response. Thank you.   • 2024 MAZDA CX-90
    - BAKERSFIELD, CA

    Vehicle has 43,000 miles and the radiator has failed. Engine light goes off and on about high engine temperature and limits acceleration. Lost acceleration on freeway and was forced to get off on the freeway shoulder. The temperature gauge jumps from normal to high. Engine was extremely hot and potentially a burn hazard when I opened the hood. I've researched Mazda CX-90 owner's online forums and this radiator failure is happening to the 2024 model with several owners just out of warranty stating leaks spraying engine area. My vehicle has the same green coolant spray dried on the water hoses that many other owners have experienced.

    Heavy and sticky steering. While cornering or turning steering wheels can become stuck and does not return to central position and is very heavy. Reported to Mazda USA but they refuse to fix even though this is a know issue with a recall. Concen for the safety of my family while driving the car.

    - Bensalem , PA

    Component failure: potential thermal (heat-related) breakdown of the EPS control module, steering rack electronics, or associated wiring harness. Description: After approximately two hours of continuous highway driving, a critical Red Steering Wheel Warning Light illuminates intermittently in the center dashboard. This indicates a severe system fault and imminent threat of total loss of power steering assist while operating at highway speeds presenting an extreme safety hazard. The vehicle is under the bumper-to-bumper warranty and was brought to authorized Mazda service for the warranty repair. The dealership refused to perform a deep electronic diagnostic of the EPS module. The service manager released the vehicle back to me, claiming the issue cannot be duplicated unless it is driven for two hours and no active codes are showing. He is claiming this is a lane assist issue and the vehicle is safe. This is not a lane assist issue as it was occurring for the complete two hour trip and not on a specific road area that the lane assist could not detect. By refusing to escalate a critical steering failure to manufacturer engineers, the dealership has forced me to continue driving a potentially unsafe vehicle with a known steering defect in order to “prove” the malfunction occurs.

    1.January 2025 Diagnosis (Inside Powertrain Warranty): I presented the vehicle with severe transmission jerking and shift lurching. Your technicians applied a software flash to the PCM/TCM per TSB 05-004/23. Mazda’s official text states the root cause of this symptom is torque fluctuation and torsional resonance within the torque converter. 2.Current Symptom (Defect Manifestation): The vehicle now exhibits the distinct upshift chirp detailed in TSB 05-005/23 (NHTSA ID MC-10246127-0001). Mazda’s documentation states the root cause of this chirp is excessive wear of the lock-up clutch inside the torque converter, which sheds iron powder directly into the automatic transmission fluid (ATF). The torque converter is a single, closed mechanical component. In January 2025, while the vehicle was fully covered under the 5-Year/60,000-Mile Powertrain Warranty, the torque converter's internal clutch was already undergoing accelerated physical degradation. Instead of physically inspecting the transmission fluid for iron contamination as dictated by sound mechanical diagnostics, your service department applied an electronic software patch. This patch merely altered the lock-up engagement timing to mask the torsional resonance rather than fixing the failing hardware. Applying a temporary software patch that delays a catastrophic component failure past a calendar date does not absolve Mazda dealership or Mazda Corporate of liability for a pre-existing, documented defect. In addition there is numerous complaints related to same issue is being poped up online and it appears to be wide spread manufacturing defect problem.

    When my car starts up, engine rpm is around 1500 or above 1000. If I would switch to reverse, the car sudden jerks back stronger and quicker than I expected even though my foot isn’t on the accelerator pedal and have pressed the brake lightly.

  • 2020 MAZDA CX-30

    My car was squeaking and lurching around 3/4 gear. I took it in to the Mazda dealership (Northtowne Mazda in Kansas City) and they told me it was a "well-known issue" with this year and make of a Mazda. There is a problem with the torque converter lock-up clutch which sheds iron particles into the transmission fluid. The torque converter needs to be replaced. After further research, it appears that Mazda has a well-documented manufacturing defect that is outlined in Mazda TSB 05-005/23. My car has a 60,000 mile/5 year warranty on it. It currently only has 48,600 miles on it (well under the warranty limit). I called the Mazda Corporation Customer Care and they opened a ticket but I was told today that they will not extend any assistance with this, even though it is below the warranty limit on mileage and with them knowing about this issue and publishing a bulletin about it. I asked about the Good Will extension and the Customer Service Case Manager told me it didn't qualify. Even with it being under the warranty mileage, because it's over the year limit, they won't cover it. I asked what the criteria was to qualify for the Good Will extension and he told me it was "confidential" and there is nothing they can do about it.

    While driving, a "telematics error" message displayed, a single red light on the SOS button turned on, and it started beeping loudly while driving. In this state the vehicle cannot automatically summon emergency help following a crash, and I cannot manually trigger an SOS call. We are scheduled to have this repaired on September 15th. We previously submitted a similar case 11744809, which was a similar "telematics error", which also caused the touchscreen to fail to turn on, preventing other safety features from operating.

  • 2023 MAZDA CX-5

    On 09/01/2026 at approximately 55 mph, I was driving with adaptive cruise control engaged. The vehicle ahead decelerated abruptly. My vehicle began braking hard with no input from me for a fraction of a second. A red BRAKE warning appeared in the instrument cluster with an audible alarm. I then applied the brake pedal hard. On first contact the pedal barely moved from its rest position and was extremely firm. About a second into my application, while still traveling at over 25 mph, pedal resistance dropped sharply and pedal travel increased substantially. I had to push the pedal several inches farther to get back to comparable deceleration. The pedal did not pulse or vibrate. I came to a matching speed roughly one car length from the vehicle ahead, and only because I kept braking hard. I did not see an MRCC Cancelled message, though the BRAKE warning occupies the same part of the display, so I cannot say whether the initial deceleration came from Mazda Radar Cruise Control or Smart Brake Support. No brake, ABS, or DSC warning lamp illuminated before, during, or after the event, and none has since. There were no symptoms beforehand, and the brakes have worked normally since. Failed component: unknown. I cannot determine whether the change in pedal feel came from the brake booster, the DSC hydraulic control unit, the master cylinder, or the driver assistance system handing brake control back to me. The vehicle has not been inspected by anyone and no service center has reproduced the issue. The vehicle is available for inspection if needed. If a driver assistance system is commanding brake pressure and withdraws it during the driver intervention, total deceleration can drop at the moment when the driver still wants to stop aggressively to avoid a crash. Suddenly, the driver has to find the extra pedal travel while still closing on the obstacle. I slowed to a safe speed in time. With less room, or less attentiveness, I may not have been able to.
