The fuel gauge and range indicator are faulty. I was doing long-distance highway driving during the holidays. At 1/4 tank, the range indicator said 110 miles until empty. As soon as the needle dipped a fraction below 1/4 tank (about 20 miles later) the range indicator dropped instantly to 40 miles left AND THEN DROPPED ONE MILE PER SECOND UNTIL IT REGISTERED ZERO. The needle also fell at the same rate until I was driving on the interstate with zero range and a gas gauge buried below empty. All of this occurred within one minute. I pulled into the nearest gas station and filled up with 12.71 gallons (it's an 18.5 gallon tank). So I actually had 5.79 gallons left (or 156.33 miles of range at 27mpg on the highway). Not being able to rely on the gas gauge/range indicator is a safety issue.

I am concerned about a serious safety issue with my CX-90. Both of the rear doors have consistently malfunctioned, failing to latch properly when closed. The door handles get stuck and do not fully return to their original position, preventing the doors from locking securely. As a result, the doors have swung open while the vehicle was in motion, putting passengers, especially children in the back, at significant risk. This is a critical safety concern that needs immediate attention. This issue goes back mid November 2024.

My vehicle had a previous recall done concerning the steering - recall #24V022000 of 2024-01-17. That corrected a problem I was having with a 'notchy' feeling in the steering when going down a relatively straight road. The problem I am having now with the steering is different and IMO is more dangerous of an issue. The problem is a notchy and "locked" feeling when the steering wheel is turned and kept at a required angle when going around a constant radius bend in the road. The specific problem is that when the steering wheel is required to be turned back to the center position after the road straightens, the wheel feels like it is almost locked in the turned position and sometimes returning the wheel to the center position results in an overcorrection which may cause the vehicle to cross over the centerline of the road and into the oncoming traffic. Interestingly, when I had my car into the dealer for a repair and was given another CX-90 as a loaner, the loaner exhibited the same issue. I brought this to the attention of the service manager and he basically ignored my concern. I will be making an appointment with the dealer in the near future and address this issue but I decided to report this issue because it looks to me like my vehicle is not the only vehicle with this potentially dangerous issue. I have been able to anticipate when this occurs but wonder if a less attentive driver would have a serious problem.

Dear NHTSA, I am writing to formally raise a safety concern regarding my Mazda CX-90 Turbo S Premium Plus, which I purchased and currently have approximately 25,078 miles on. This vehicle is equipped with a mild hybrid 48V battery, which is not a full high-voltage battery. The vehicle has been at the dealer since December 9th for ongoing issues. On [XXX], I began experiencing multiple malfunctions, including the Mild Hybrid System Malfunction, Engine Malfunction, and iStop Malfunction (with the iStop malfunction indicator blinking). This is a serious safety concern. I was extremely worried that the vehicle could stall, especially while driving on a busy highway at high speeds. Both myself and my family felt fearful while driving the car. I believe this issue presents a significant risk to the safety of drivers and passengers. I am requesting your assistance in initiating an official recall from the manufacturer for this component failure. Based on my research, I am not the only one experiencing these issues—many others have reported similar problems on forums like Reddit, which suggests that this could be a widespread issue. Additionally, Mazda offers a 6-year/60,000-mile warranty on this hybrid battery. If the component fails after this period, the cost to replace it could reach $6,000, with the customer being responsible for a large portion of the expense. This is concerning, especially considering that if this part fails after 30,000 miles, the customer may be expected to bear up to 70% of the cost. It is frustrating to see such issues with a vehicle sold in the U.S., and I feel that companies should be held accountable for offering subpar products. For comparison, BMW offers a 100,000-mile warranty on similar components. I hope you will take immediate action to address this issue and help ensure that affected vehicles are recalled for repair or replacement. Thank you in advance for your attention to this matter. 1. Gear Shift Issue in EV Mode: The transition from 1st to 2nd gear is not shifting properly in EV mode. At times, the gear jerks during critical situations, which compromises control. 2. Power Output on Highway: While driving on the highway, there are instances where there is no power output when flooring the accelerator to overtake. 3. Engine Malfunction Light: The engine malfunction light has come on and off three times. 4. Radar Malfunction: The radar system is intermittently not working or working improperly. The radar malfunction light also came on and off once (i-ACTIVSENSE system malfunction). The last safety recall was completed a few weeks ago, but the issues are still ongoing. Since then, I have visited the Mazda dealership twice, but they let me go, dismissing my claims and saying they couldn’t duplicate the problems. I have a case with Mazda corporation. Nothing done yet (Case Number: [XXX]). The name of the Representative is Candy. I would appreciate it if you could investigate these issues at the earliest convenience. Thank you for your attention to these matters. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

The contact owns a 2024 Mazda CX-90. The contact stated while driving at approximately 3 MPH, the vehicle unintendedly accelerated; however, the accelerator pedal was not being depressed during the failure. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer and was diagnosed that a software update was needed. The vehicle was repaired; however, the failure persisted. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 3,000.

steering wheel locks into the direction of turning (sometimes more than needed for the corner) and causes over-steering at all speed (from 20mph to 45mph). at low speed the steering can be forced to turn back, but at higher speed such as onramp or offramp, after fighting the oversteering, the steering disengages for a brief second while fighting oversteering which I think can/will cause inexperience driver to turn the steering wheel too much in the opposite direction. also the lane departure/centering feature also causes the steering wheel to jiggle while driving straight (incorrectly trying to move the car while going stright). this is going to cause accident.

with lane-keep assist /lane-centering enabled, the steering will try to straighten the car while turning. experienced this during on-ramp and off-ramp of highway. this is super dangerous. even experienced it at low speed in the neighborhood. steering wheel will fight me during turn and disengage for brief second - this is very disconcerting while making a turn. even with lane-keep assist disabled, I can still feel the wheel (very minor feedback) trying to change course while turning. this issue began immediately after dealer performed all active recalls.

I’ve only owned this brand new vehicle for just two months. Had I known these issues, I would not have purchased the CX90! Having issue with I-stop causing vehicle to stop whenever and now the dash display just popped up yesterday 12/09/24 regarding “Headlight Malfunction contact dealership”. I contacted the dealership yesterday and was going to be charged for a diagnostic test on a two month old vehicle, I don’t think customers should have to pay for a diagnostic test on a “brand new vehicle” and was also advised, Mazda is aware and working on issue (headlight malfunction has been complained about since 2023) but no recall on headlight malfunction, test! As well as now, there are two campaign #7024 J and #7124 J But at the present time service department is waiting on “when” the recall and headlight issue can be serviced! I’m confused why owning a brand new vehicle and being told of issues and experiencing issue along with recalls and not being able to get them fixed is asinine! What customer wants to pay lots of money on a vehicle to risk injury or damage due to manufacturer dragging their feet. I would appreciate assistance in these issues! Thank you

CX-90 AC system is faulted, while driving it keeps the temperature at comfortable level. However, it starts to blow warm and humid air at idling or stopping at traffic or traffic lights (with i-stop disabled). When gear is shifted into Park or Neutral, AC starts working normal again. This causes uncomfortable and unpleasant driving experience in hot summer months. The complaint has been filed with Mazda Corporate, but no resolution to this issue. Hopefully, this will be investigated by Mazda Engineers.
