  • 2022 MAZDA MAZDA3
    - Tigard, OR

I recently received a warning on the dashboard that there is an airbag malfunction and needs to be taken in to get serviced. The warning continues to appear. This appears similar to a recent recall of 2024-2025 Mazda 3s and CX-30s, but there does not appear to be a recall issued for 2022 Mazda 3 models. I have scheduled an appointment for July 24, 2025 at the Mazda dealership to get my vehicle inspected, but because there is no active recall, Mazda states that I may have to pay for the diagnosis and any repairs. I disagree that I am required to pay for any diagnosis/inspections/repairs.

For a year I have responded to every notice for a recall repair (7 total) Mazda has not repaired my vehicle or scheduled its repair. My recall ID is 016742248 and my Campaign Number is 100409. My car has a DO NOT DRIVE status and Mazda tells me I MUST drive the car 2 hours to get it repaired each way. And they refuse to transport y vehicle even thought I have told them in phone conversations about my cars do not drive status. The latest attempt for filing for a repay was 7-21-25 at 9:40am central time.

The contact owns a 2020 Mazda CX-5. The contact stated that the vehicle jerked abnormally while depressing the accelerator pedal. There was no warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to a dealer where the vehicle was diagnosed with transmission failure. The manufacturer was notified by the dealer about the failure, and the manufacturer agreed to partially cover the cost of the repair. The vehicle was not repaired and remained with the dealer. The failure mileage was approximately 52,000.

  • 2018 MAZDA CX-9
    - Orland Park, IL

. In January 2024, I purchased a used 2018 Mazda CX-9. The vehicle ran well until [XXX], when I discovered an engine coolant leak. My mechanic diagnosed it as a known defect involving the cylinder head. My husband contacted Mazda Customer Service (CS), and they advised us to get an official diagnosis from a Mazda dealer. We brought the car to Orland Park Mazda, where a diagnostic confirmed the defect (report attached). We later received an email from Mazda CS saying that since our car was at the dealership, Mazda would take the lead in submitting the goodwill repair claim (email attached). When we followed up with Orland Park Mazda, they informed us that no one from Mazda CS had contacted them to authorize the repair. We relayed this to Mazda CS and gave them the direct number of our service advisor, Adrian. Mazda CS said they would follow up and get back to us within 48–72 hours. On a follow-up call, I spoke with Nancy at Mazda CS, who again told me that our case manager Cindy would contact us within 48–72 hours. Instead, we received an email denying the repair, stating the vehicle exceeded the 120,000-mile limit for the extended warranty (our vehicle has 133,500 miles). While our car is outside the warranty period, this is a textbook case of a well-documented defect covered under TSBs for the 2018 CX-9. Mazda has previously approved goodwill engine replacements for other customers well beyond this mileage. We are seeking fairness and consistency in handling known product defects. Our request is that Mazda approve the engine repair under goodwill coverage as they have in many similar cases. • 2025 MAZDA CX-50 HYBRID
    - Comstock Park, MI

On three separate occasions, while in reverse backing out of my driveway, the car failed to engage the transmission when shifting into drive, acting like it was in neutral. There were no warning lights or messages on the dashboard. The only way that I found to engage the transmission was to turn off the vehicle, turn back on, and move selector to drive. This is a safety issue as I've had cars approaching in both directions with the CX-50 behing immobilized and not able to move out of the roadway.

    - Bellingham, WA

NHTSA report 7.19.2015 July 19, 2025 NHSTA Report This is what happened to me [XXX]: I was at an off ramp stop waiting for cars to pass. I eased forward to see if everyone had passed. The car accelerated on its own and I tried to stop. When I braked it accelerated faster. I had both feet on the brakes and tried to stop, but each time the car accelerated. It accelerated three times until I crashed. I crashed into a utility trailer and the wheel well of the trailer caught on my front left bumper on the driver's side. I was drug along the road around 60 miles per hour until the bumper bent and I could pull over onto the side of the road. The car was a total loss. The attached notice from Mazda matches the uncontrollable acceleration of my car. I contacted Mazda Corporation on the same day ([XXX]) and was told there is no VIN record of the car since I owned it. Additionally, they told me it was repaired in 2005 as a throttle recall. But there is a subsequent notice attached dated July, 2012 and no record of that recall repair. I called WA state Dept of Licensing to see if there is a new owner. They do not have a record of such. I contacted Copart in Arlington WA today to find out if the car was there for parts so nobody would buy the accelerator cable. Copart told me today they sold the car in 2024 but cannot release the name of whoever bought it. They said my insurance company would know. Whoever owns the car now needs to know there is a faulty accelerator cable causing a accident and they need to have it examined and replaced correctly. Please help find who owns this car and remedy a potential crash. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

When using adaptive cruise control, during SOME cornering, SOMETIMES the car brakes unexpectedly, very aggressively, without warning. Very dangerous, especially when another car is behind you.

    - Yorktown, VA

A grating/moaning noise started coming from the passenger-side headlight. After googling, it seems that it is a common issue that others have had which requires replacement of the headlight assembly. I took this to the dealership, and the tech told me this is common. They didn’t even have to take it back into the shop to make a diagnosis. He said that dirt gets into the bearings on the fan meant to cool the lamp DURING MANUFACTURING. This causes the fan to fail and the light to overheat if the headlight assembly is not replaced. This problem seems to be so common that the dealership already had the part in stock that they would need.
