The contact owns a 2019 Mazda CX-3. The contact stated while driving at an undisclosed speed, the vehicle lost motive power and was unable to accelerate above 20 MPH. The low oil pressure warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer, who diagnosed a failure with the electrical wiring harness, finding that the harness appeared to suffer from normal wear and tear. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 132,000.

On April 3rd, around 5:20 PM, while driving with my daughter on a suburban street, my Mazda hybrid experienced sudden brake failure as I approached a stop sign. Attempts to engage the brakes failed, but they unexpectedly resumed, allowing the car to stop safely. This incident triggered multiple dashboard warnings including "Engine Malfunction," "Hybrid System Malfunction," and "i-Activesense System Malfunction." The hybrid battery’s range indicator also fluctuated erratically between 1 and 4 miles. The primary malfunction involved the vehicle’s braking system, with concurrent issues in the engine and hybrid systems as indicated by the alerts. The vehicle and all related components, along with the computer fault codes, are available for inspection and further testing at the Mazda dealership. The brake failure significantly endangered the safety of both myself and my daughter, as we nearly entered an active intersection uncontrollably, which could have led to a severe collision, posing a grave risk to both occupants and pedestrians. Despite extensive diagnostics and approximately 33 miles of test driving under various conditions, the dealership was unable to replicate the brake failure, raising serious concerns about the braking system’s reliability and predictability. The dealership's technicians, in cooperation with Mazda corporate engineers, have inspected the vehicle and analyzed the diagnostic data and fault codes. As of April 19th, the car remains with the dealership for further analysis. No additional inspections by police, insurance, or independent service centers have been reported. The inability to reproduce the brake failure and the spontaneous nature of the dashboard warnings underscore the necessity for continuous investigation by Mazda. Without a clear resolution, my trust in the vehicle’s safety is deeply shaken, especially for driving in high-speed or heavily trafficked areas.

Oil light has come on indicating low oil. I have serviced this car through the dealership on schedule since I purchased it new. I don't believe modern cars should "lose oil" at less than 30,000 miles.

Despite a recall on the fuel pump, there continues to be a problem but instead of the “back” fuel pump that was fixed, the “front” fuel pump seems to be having the same issue. When taken to the dealer, the code P0087- fuel rail/system pressure too low shows up. This is causing car to stall, unable to pick up speed or simply pick up too much speed when attempting to accelerate. It’s a safety hazard for a car less than 6 years old.

    - Prosser, WA

Driving up snowy pass on I-90 approaching the top of Snoqualmie Pass. Vehicle stalled and warning lights flashed critical warning and loss of power. The vehicle stopped in the middle of the highway and would not start or go into drive. After a few minutes, because of speeding and adverse conditions, another driver collided with my vehicle from behind. Another following vehicle lost control and ran off the road. Nobody was injured. Mazda has not provided any information to what happened with the vehicle. We added about 12k miles in the 5 months of driving it, so we had lots of testing with it, and never ran into this serious of an issue with this or any other vehicle.

I purchased a brand new 2023 Mazda Cx-5 on December 2022 from Daytona Mazda. The car has been great up until 34,310 miles when I noticed vibration in the steering wheel. I take the car to Sport Mazda North in Longwood Fl. They checked the brakes and rotors and tires. My brakes and rotors are fine. They stated my tires have cupping. They suggested a wheel balance to slow down the cupping process and they suggested and alignment as well. But that I would need to replace the tires if I wanted that cupping to be gone. I buy new tires and have them installed by Pep Boys because I was tired it the vibration. I have them check the alignment while I was there and the alignment came out great with all the numbers in the green. The tires still had 7/32nd left on the tires so that’s about 70% of tread left. The dealership downer warranty the tires and Yokohama won’t warranty them. They stated i needed to send the tires back. I let the rep know that ok so you wanted me to risk my safety to send those tires back to you to examine them. I let the rep know that I don’t have those tires as I had new tires put on on [XXX]. I am trying to get compensated for the new tires I had to buy because of a premature issue with the OEM tires. - Portland, OR

While accelerating onto a highway, my engine overheating light flashed then stayed on and my acceleration suddenly throttled back and my car started slowing down. I was able to pull over on the shoulder, but there was a close call with a semi bearing down. I had my car towed to a repair shop, where they told me the water jacket had cracked and the overheating caused a blown head gasket. This was repaired and tested. A week later, I got the car up to highway speeds and the engine overheating light flashed again. When I stopped and looked at the engine, there was foamy tan coolant all over the place. Towed it back again and was told the weld had failed. But in trying to find a used cylinder to replace mine, the shop told me that all of their sources said they had no used ones available because the same crack happened on those as well.

Interior Rattles from passenger side and also infotainment screen is rattling. Should not be happening on a 2024 with only a couple thousand miles on it. Scratches on the interior from basically nothing, everything on this car is very easy to scratch. There was no accident just wanted to file a complaint.

Cylinder head cracked resulting in engine overheating with code P111A. Gasket bolts expelled due to excessive heat and pressure. Evidence of coolant spray along hose connections, lower cover and transfer case. Smoke came out of the engine compartment first followed by warnings titled 'Critical vehicle malfunction alert' 'pull over immediately' Check engine light came up shortly thereafter. Vehicle inspected by an authorized Mazda service center, confirming the engine overheat code. This is the statement from the service representative: 'Mazda wants to start with a cylinder head prior to doing an engine'. The technician's analysis indicates they received warranty approval for Entire cylinder head and head gasket replacement and all associated parts. No warning lights prior to the failure. They started just as the engine started smoking. Potentially related information: The vehicle displayed error code for a coolant valve issue 3 weeks before this issue for which a TSB already existed and Mazda replaced the part. TSB related to cylinder head defect exists for model year 2019, but not for model year 2022.
