I brought my vehicle to Modern Mazda of Thomaston, CT on Friday January 30, 2026 due to a front-end passenger clunking noise that occurs during left turns. The master tech test-drove the vehicle to duplicate the noise and video of the damage. I was informed that the front passenger axle was leaking grease in video and recommend to replace the front axle. I was told the necessary parts are on back order 6-8 weeks. I was told Mazda is aware of the manufacturer workmanship defect in the CV axle parts. The service manager did provide written documentation ordering the parts. I did file a complaint with Mazda Corporate, documenting the issue and the dealership's findings as well as I was informed the fact Mazda is seeking a new supplier of CV parts. A Mazda corporate case number was assigned. I believe this is a safety issue and a recall should be issued.

I noticed smoke filling the inside of my car. I looked over at the passenger seat, and my coat was on fire. I poured my drink on it, pulled over, and threw the coat out of the car. I saw a large hole in the lumbar area of the passenger seat, and it was glowing red and putting out a lot of heat. The seat heater was on, so I immediately turned it off. It was obvious that the fire has started inside the seat, and there was no other fire source in car--ie. lit cigarette, lighter, etc. If someone had been sitting there, they would have serious burns. The seat will need to be replaced.

On February 9, 2026, our 2023 Mazda CX-9 experienced a sudden and complete system malfunction while being driven. Multiple system failures began approximately six minutes before the crash. During this time, the driver reported: • Total loss of steering • Complete brake failure • No response to acceleration or driver input • No ability to slow, stop, or maneuver the vehicle • No meaningful warnings that allowed corrective action The vehicle became completely uncontrollable. At the crash site, there were no skid marks, no braking evidence, and no signs of evasive action, consistent with a full loss of vehicle control. The vehicle only stopped after entering approximately two feet of water and striking a tree. The vehicle was declared a total loss. This incident represents a severe safety defect involving critical electronic and mechanical systems. A modern vehicle should not lose all steering, braking, and control functions under any circumstances. We are requesting a full investigation into the cause of this failure and whether similar incidents have occurred in other Mazda vehicles. We can provide photos, crash documentation, diagnostic information, and driver statements upon request.

All of a sudden I have experienced sticky steering every time I turn the wheel it does not come back by itself, so need some effort to push it back. Mazda dealership service inspected the car and informed that they already put the order for the part, but it will take around 3 months to get it from mazda. I am not thinking to wait 3 months to get the car repaired. It is basically a new car with 25k miles and costed around $ 60K. I don't understand why they don't have available parts if they know about the issue since the beginning.

The steering wheel has been sticking when turned even in the slightest. It is so dangerous because I have to over correct which causes the car to jerk. I took it to the dealership and was informed that this is a known problem but there is no recall from Mazda. They said it’s going to cost me $4500 to replace the steering rack and gear motor. It’s a 2 year old car I shouldn’t be having these kind of major repairs. I get regular maintenance and always take it in for any recalls.

I get an error that rear side radar obsured, I activsense temporarily disabled almost everytime I drive at freeway speeds. It disables the blind spot monitoring making the vehicle less safe. It disables for long periods of time in all conditions. Took to Mazda and they indicated it’s an issue, but no solution.

Cruise control and lane keeping system engaged. Vehicle will occasionally aggressively apply brakes, when nothing visible is in front of the vehicle. This has nearly cause our car to be rear ended on a number of occasions. I suspect the system mistakenly interprets a building or vehicle shadow as a physical object. This response has also occurred when vehicle in front (cruise control distance at slower speed) turns right. Again, nearly causing vehicle behind to be rear ended.
