Had this Mazda CX30 as a rental car for about a week. Was pulling into the driveway, hit the brakes, and the vehicle took off full speed causing a crash. The engine was revving at max and the vehicle was accelerating as if the gas pedal was floored. No matter what pedal I hit the car just kept going until the crash and being shut off.

  • 2024 MAZDA CX-90 PLUG-IN HYBRID
    - San Antonio, TX

The hybrid battery and hybrid system malfunctioned. The vehicle emitted a strong rotten-egg odor (consistent with hydrogen sulfide gas) inside the cabin from [XXX] to [XXX]. The hybrid system warning light first appeared on [XXX]. On [XXX], the air conditioner did not work while driving, and on other occasions it failed to turn on until the engine was restarted. On August 5, 2025, the vehicle was serviced for a related recall, but the warning light returned shortly afterward. From [XXX] to [XXX], my children (ages [XXX] and [XXX] ), my elderly mother, and I were exposed to fumes inside the cabin. We experienced headaches, nausea, and dizziness. On one occasion, my mother nearly fainted after dinner while visiting, which coincided with her exposure to the odor. The dealership did not warn me that the hybrid warning light could be associated with the odor or that an odor would be hazardous, so I continued driving the vehicle during this period. On September 3, 2025, the dealership confirmed the hybrid system malfunction, deemed the car unsafe to drive, and ordered a replacement battery. The vehicle was out of service until September 15, 2025, when the entire hybrid battery was replaced. The dealership inspected the vehicle multiple times, and Mazda corporate (Customer Experience Center case manager) was notified. The component was replaced under warranty, but the event created a significant safety risk due to exposure to toxic fumes and the potential for hybrid system failure while driving. - Lewisville, TX

The instrument panel above the information display in my 2011 Mazda3 has warped and created a visible gap, which is a known defect previously covered under Mazda’s Special Service Program A9 (SSP A9). While originally described as a cosmetic issue, in my vehicle the gap now allows engine odors and emissions to enter the passenger cabin. This condition presents a safety and health risk to occupants. My daughter drives the vehicle daily to college and is regularly exposed to these fumes. To confirm the problem, I used a Temtop M2000C Advanced Air Quality Monitor and recorded the following CO2 levels inside the cabin compared to outside air: - Outside vehicle (baseline): 348 ppm - Inside after 1 minute: 436 ppm - Inside after 5 minutes: 1,027 ppm - Inside after 15 minutes: 1,645 ppm According to the monitor’s air quality guide, 1,501–2,500 ppm CO2 is classified as “Unhealthy.” These readings indicate a measurable intrusion of emissions into the cabin. Mazda Customer Experience has acknowledged the vehicle is outside the SSP A9 warranty window and denied repair assistance, but I believe this issue is no longer cosmetic. The defect now creates a condition that may adversely affect occupant health and safety and should be considered under NHTSA’s authority for potential investigation. The vehicle can be inspected upon request. A Mazda dealer (Group 1 Mazda Denton, Texas) has provided a repair estimate of $1,307.77 for instrument panel replacement. Photos of the gap and air quality readings are available.

  • 2019 MAZDA CX-5
    - Norwood, MA

The contact owns a 2019 Mazda CX-5. The contact stated that while driving 30 MPH with a toddler occupying the rear seat, the contact noticed smoke and an abnormal burning rubber odor coming through the vents. The contact pulled into a gas station and then pulled into a nail salon parking lot. There was no warning light illuminated. The contact was able to drive to the residence, where an independent mechanic inspected the vehicle and found an oil leak, and the mechanic diagnosed that the cylinder head had cracked. The vehicle was taken to the dealer. The dealer informed the contact that the repair could not be covered under an unknown Extended Warranty because of the type of engine. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and informed the contact that the repair could not be covered under Goodwill assistance because the oil changes had not been mainly performed by the dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 83,000.

First time I noticed the crack on top passenger side of the windshield was on 9/12/25 while taking a break from work in my car. Car mileage on 9/12/25 was 1892 miles Upon inspection of windshield, I found out that crack was felt when I ran my fingernail on the inside, and when trying to feel the crack from the outside, windshield felt smooth and without any indication of cracking. I would like to attest that this vehicle has been kept in a garage since its purchase. I also would like to add that there has not been debris of any kind hitting the windshield while driving it, hence the crack being felt only from the inside. I have taken the car to the dealership today and I have an appointment for further inspection on 9/24/25

The drive power on my 2025 Mazda CX-90 was SEVERELY reduced last week while making a left turn in front of oncoming traffic. No warning light nor sound from my car appeared at the time of this incident. The vehicle was purchased 5 months ago and there have been other occasions where the power was reduced while turning. This incident, however, was the most dangerous. The turn was made at a traffic light while sitting on a hill yielding to oncoming traffic. The approaching car was moving slow enough to make a safe left turn in front of it, but the lack of power prevented me from making a reasonable (not reckless) fast turn. Fortunately the oncoming vehicle was able to stop in time to prevent an accident.

Rear wheel bearings failed at approximately 30,000 miles and were replaced by Mazda under warrantee. The same rear wheel bearings failed at approximately 72,000 miles and are available for inspection. Dealer has confirmed bad wheel bearings on both occasions. The potential for wheel bearing failure incudes loss of control of the vehicle while in motion. Dealer has bearing available for inspection. The only warning is increasing noise as the bearing wear.
